Domestic thrillers are definitely my thing and I really enjoyed this one. I love a good mystery/thriller and this one definitely satisfied that in my life right now. I definitely recommend if you like domestic thrillers too. *I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley.*

This was requested when I first found out about NetGalley and I had requested so many ARCs that I could not get to all of them before they were archived. I really wanted to get to this one, as it seemed interesting. If I can find this somewhere for a reasonable price, I will try to get it! I am giving this book three stars, as I don't want to give it a good or bad rating, since I did not get to it.

The only downside to this book was the fact that it involves amnesia. Something we have all heard before. I liked the writing style just the plot wasnt memorable.

My first book by this author! I was thoroughly entertained throughout this book & was patiently waiting to see what was going to happen next!

A great story that grabs the reader and takes them through ups and downs. Abby suffers through a bad marriage and one morning wakes to find her abuser dead. Told from two different points of view, this was a good book.

One book I do not have to pack up is After He's Gone.

I have a problem containing myself and got a little too excited in anticipation for the weekend and picked this superstar up last night and well, time got away from me and I was up until 4am reading.

This book was worth it!

The twists, the turns, the lies, the deceit...

I was totally consumed and I know you will be too! This is a 5 star thriller that will be loved by all.

This book is a classic "did she do it?" mystery. The main character, Abby, finds herself standing over her dead husband's body. But she cannot remember - did she murder him? Prior to this, Abby had been experiencing blackouts and migraines. She did not think too much of them, until standing over her dead husband's body.

The story switches between two timelines - prior to the husband's death and post-death. As the story develops, we learn more about Abby's past and her relationship with her husband. This was definitely a page-turner. Overall, I enjoyed the book and found it to be a quick and easy read. It may not be the most original storyline, but it definitely sucked me in!

Abby is a timid, insecure first year law student who is bowled over by the attentions of Charles, a handsome, wealthy, successful fellow law student She allows herself to be swept off her feet and into a marriage, and then a oopsy pregnancy. Charles' true nature comes out after the wedding and he is a controlling narcissist. She starts suffering occasional blackouts and comes to after one to discover Charles bloody and dead on the floor. She has no idea if she played any part in his murder. I was interested in finding out what happened, but my enjoyment of the novel was dampened by what a wet noodle Abby was. She had several chances to get out of her situation. Also, the slight romance between Abby and the detective investigating the case (with her as a suspect!) was all wrong from both of their perspectives.

This was a great mind bending twisty book. A case of did she.? Or was she set up? I loved this one it was so good. All the twists in it made me read this even quicker than I usually would. Worth five stars. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

If you're looking for a fast-paced domestic thriller then look no further. I found "After He's Gone" to be a compulsively readable novel - though a tad predictable. There were no jaw-dropping plot twists, but there was an engaging protagonist, albeit one with little self-esteem.

The story is set in California and is told via dual timelines. We are introduced to Abby when she first meets Charles, a fellow law student. She feels unworthy of him as he is popular, rich, handsome, and ever so charming. Completely bowled over by his forceful personality, it is not long before they are married. Well folks, the honeymoon is well and truly over. His forceful personality turns out to be one of a narcissistic and controlling man. A man who uses mind games to keep Abby dancing to his tune.

Abby is prone to blackouts and with an infant daughter in the house, that is scary indeed. After one such blackout she is confronted with the dead body of her husband lying in a pool of blood... The story is split between events before and after his death.

This was a real page turner, though not highly original. I guess that is a testament to the clever writing. Charles was a character that left the reader with no remorse that he died. In fact if you were the type to dance on someone's grave, you'd be doing a jig on his.

The ending of the book was a bit too tidy, too unlikely, in my humble opinion. However, the denouement didn't preclude me from giving this domestic thriller a four star rating, for pure reading enjoyment. I wouldn't hesitate to read more of this author's work.

After He’s Gone by Katherine Bolger Hyde was a quick & slightly uneasy read. I finished it quickly -partly because I wanted to know what exactly had happened but also because I felt so disgusted about the situation the female MC was in that I wanted to get to the end of the book faster.

The author did such a good job making the antagonist so detestable that I didn’t care much about what had happened to him, BUT, I did still have the curiosity that propelled me to keep reading and find out exactly how it had happened. I was definitely rooting for Abby throughout the book.

I liked the dual timeline and how the past was slowly revealed to the reader. I liked the dual POV that kept the reader in the dark until the end.

I did not care for the (spoiler) romance attempt thrown in between Abby and Peter. I don’t typically enjoy romance in thrillers and in this particular story I felt that Abby desiring a relationship so quickly after her husband died felt gross - even though her husband was despicably horrible - and I thought it was horribly unprofessional of Peter to fall for his main suspect in the case. It just felt unnecessary and wrong for this story.

A good read. That was a surprise. 4*.

My first read by Katherine Bolger Hyde but definitely won’t be my last! I loved the cat and mouse tension that built throughout. Secrets, tension and lies galore. And wonderfully creepy reveals! Characters were amazing although I will say that I repeatedly swore at one in particular.

I think I would have enjoyed this one more if it wasn't marketed as a thriller. It was definitely suspenseful and kept me engaged, but the ending was so far from thrilling. It left me saying, "oh okay...."

Abby finds her abusive husband, Charles, dead one night after she experiences a blackout. The problem is that she doesn't know if she killed him.

Overall, it was well written and did a very good job addressing all the aspects of domestic violence. The story is told in both the past and the present, detailing the descent into hell that Abby faces, as she begins to realize who she married.

It was engaging and easy to follow. The end left me almost disappointed, it was so anti-climactic.

I also didn't care for the fact that Abby was able to go into some sort of hypnotized/fugue state to relive her blackout just on a whim with no explanation as to how or what was happening. Overall, it was a decent read, but people shouldn't really expect a "thriller."

I think I read so many thrillers that the amnesia trope is starting to lose its appeal for me. I feel like we wait the entire book already knowing the memory will be regained right at the end. Abby annoyed me too. I wish she had more guts to pack up and leave when she had the chance - and she did have several. Overall though, I did like the small romantic aspect that was thrown in and whilst my review seems to be whinging a lot, I was actually entertained by the story and would be keen to read more by this author.

I was all set to score this four stars but the ending is just so silly I really couldn’t justify it. That’s a pity because the ready of the book is quite a page turner despite Abby being one of the wettest women I’ve come across. Mixed timeline works well too.

The plot/theme of this book sounded super interesting to me: Abby's husband, Charles, is dead -- and Abby cannot confirm nor deny that she isn't responsible for this. The crime scene is a bit bizarre with blood in only some places, and that initially made Hyde's novel a page-turner for me. As an avid true crime reader and someone obsessed with forensics, I HAD to know what the heck was going to happen!

Regarding the characters, I thought Charles' behavior was a bit unrealistic. It's clear that the author was developing Charles to be a psychologically and physically abusive husband, but I don't feel there was enough time and attention given to the craft of writing about gaslighting. He tried to gaslight Abby several times, but the attempts seem awkwardly overt. Gaslighting is usually a slowburn, and it takes time for the abuser to chip away at his or her victim (speaking from experience). Flatout denying reality isn't the first stage of gaslighting, but the author chose to make it that way in After He's Gone.

I also would have liked a bit more spice. I am a closest smut reader, and when the book involves the MFC wearing crotchless undies, the MMC needs to get to work! There are several opps for the author to add some spice. So far, any hopes of spice are just dead ends.

3/5 stars because the writing was great and parts of this thriller definitely kept me turning pages, but some of the character development fell short as well as the spice during sex scenes.

A familiar plot to domestic thriller readers but it's well done and the additional perspective of Peter the detective adds to the twists, Abby married Charles who romanced her until.....And now, she's been suffering from black out migraines, She wakes from one of them to find him murdered questions whether she did it, and then searches for the truth. No spoilers from me. Thanks to netgalley for the arc. Entertaining,

There is a line in this book that goes something like "dad is the past. Charles is the future" which is so my 20 year old daughter lately. Young people are ridiculous. Don't fall so hard for someone that you give up your family. Give up on your family if they are truly awful though, which the dad is, but it is still silly.
There is some biblical stuff in here. Our girl is a christian. In fact, they don't even get it on until after the wedding. Also if you love hating the husband you will absolutely love this book. He is the worst!
Always have your newborn baby's hearing screened at birth. Don't skip it.
It is weird that this woman was released from the hospital the day she had her baby but they let her stay in the hospital forever for testing for her blackouts even though she's perfectly healthy otherwise. In real life they would have you visit the specialists over the next two years and never figure anything out.

This is a book with a fun mystery and information about congenital deafness that I think people should read for sure!
