I'm not going to lie, I wasn't a huge fan of Do No Harm, despite the massive hype around the book last year. But that subgenre of thriller just isn't for me, so I was excited to give another book by Jordan a go.
Fortunately, Conviction was much more up my street! And although it follows the same basic premise of a woman threatened to make a mistake in her job to save her family, that's about where the similarities end, so everything else had me absolutely gripped.
Conviction is definitely a "one more chapter" kind of book, one that I struggled to put down. With two stories playing out simultaneously - the trial of Wade Darling and a mystery surrounding Neve's past - there's a lot going on that keeps your mind racing and your adrenaline high.
There are a lot of great twists along the way, too, and the courtroom scenes were very strong which is always something that keeps me hooked. Overall, a standout fast-paced thriller full of whirlwind suspense.
Worthy of the five stars I’ve given it. Conviction is a fast paced, part court drama, part criminal underworld, book. Highly entertaining! A perfect open a bottle of wine and not move until you’ve finished it (the book, not the wine!) kinda read.
I loved it!
I thought he’d struggle to top ‘Do no harm’ but boy I was wrong!! This one is even better 🖤
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Things I loved:
▫️Oh Neve…Despite her moral dilemma I loved her
▫️All the damn drama!! It was so tense and executed well, I found myself really needing to hold back from binging.
▫️The Court Case itself - I’m a sucker for it!
▫️The writing. I could taste Neve’s anxiety
▫️That ending… well 😅
Things I struggled with:
▫️That I didn’t have enough time to sit and read this book in one sitting!
This book is out on 22nd June & I honestly can’t wait for you all to read it! It’s going to be up there with the likes of The Silent Patient, Blood Orange & Girl on the Train I tell you!
With just a few days before the trial of Wade Darling, a man accused of the murders of his wife and 2 children, his barrister dies, and Neve Harper is thrust into the case. But soon after she's threatened by a man employed by Wade's father in law who threatens her to throw the case or risk a secret she's hidden being discovered putting at risk her family, career and her own life. With such a dilemma what actions does Neve take?
This is a fabulous courtroom drama with a back story as well. Very tense at times, a great thriller. One to keep you awake late into the night as you won't want to put it down.
I received this advanced copy from Netgalley and Simon and Schuster UK but am under no obligation to leave my review
When Wade Darling is accused of killing his wife and children, circumstances lead to Neve Harper becoming his defence lawyer. Unfortunately someone knows that Neve has something to hide and is willing to exploit that to get the result they want in the case. But will Neve do the right thing?
This was a great courtroom drama and after a slow-burning start, it definitely took off!
Barrister Neve Harper is defending Wade Darling after he is charged with the murder of his family. Before the trial begins she is threatened by a stranger who insists that she loses the case or he will expose a secret about what happened to her husband.
Conviction is a legal thriller like no other you have read before.
I was literally gripped by every page because it was so addictive. The clever plot combined with fantastic writing has made for a truly brilliant book. I absolutely loved the shocking twists.
I immediately liked Neve as a character and I was desperate to know what had happened in the past with her husband, I found it very intriguing! Neve is an incredibly sharp and intelligent character, making the perfect protagonist.
An amazing book that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end - highly recommended.
Thank you NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Superb courtroom/trial drama where we find Wade accused of killing his wife and children ( he protests his innocence) and Neve the barrister who is going to help him prove it…..but nothing about this case, nor the characters is quite as it seems and the truth is the last thing on some people’s agenda…
Many an intricate web is spun in this story and at times you wonder how the main players keep their heads and carry on…but they do and it turns into a very tense, and at times dark, engaging and exciting thriller, you really will be turning the pages as quick as you can and will want to know the big question ‘is Wade Guilty or Innocent’?,of course I am not going to give a hint of the answer….I changed my mind throughout
Wonderful writing from this author,I never say the word ‘gripping’ in a review but if I did I would 100% use it for this book
Outstanding, dramatic, plausible and more than worthy of recommendation
I've loved every book by this author. Each book just gets better! Conviction is a brilliant gripping read. Barrister Neve Harper has no choice in defending Wade Darling who is accused of killing his family. I was hooked from the start of this book. I wasn't sure I liked Neve, but her character
actually added to the story.. I couldn't decide if Wade Darling was guilty . The build up , the intrigue becomes more intense with each page. So intense, nerve wracking and heart pounding, I had to cover the words of the page delivering the verdict. This is another fantastic read by Jack Jordan. Hope he keeps them coming. .
A proper legal thriller, bit of a slow burner but it soon picked up. Tense, chilling and I literally have no nails left. Lots of intrigue, secrets and lies. Full of misdirection and so good. Almost five stars and highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Jack Jordan certainly knows how to write a pulse racing and addictive story. This is a book that has been everything I didn’t know I needed to read at present.
Neve is brilliant, a strong, successful and feisty female who has some secrets to hide. She takes on a murder case which opens up a real can of events. Jordan has paced this perfectly. As a reader, you are aware of secrets but then you see them used against Neve in a deadly game of blackmail.
My heart has been pounding as I’ve read this one. I’ve felt as though I could hear my pulse racing. This is a book I won’t forget quickly. Jordan has a talent of pulling the reader in and holding you captive. The events have unfolded and I’ve been completely unable to put this one down.
Conviction is a book that I have devoured in just one sitting. I have no regrets, only that I wish I could experience this as a first read all over again. This is a book that is tense, enthralling and worthy of all the praise.
I’ve loved a visit to the dark side with this latest gem from Jack Jordan. This is one that is unpredictable and filled with twists that you don’t see coming. I have been speechless reading this gem.
I have no doubt I’ll be recommending this gem to everyone. This is a must read. My favourite by this author to date.
Wade Darling is accused of murdering his wife and 2 children. Neve Harper is the barrister determined to prove his innocence.
However, not all is as it seems. When Neve is effectively blackmailed to throw the case, she can see no way out.
Can she throw the case or will she do the right thing? Will she risk her career and those she loves?
Jack Jordan has fast become a favourite author of mine. As soon as I see his name on a book now, I don’t need to read the blurb, it’s going to be a plot that is guaranteed to intrigue me.
The story is a slow burner in places, it needs to be. The intensity of the plot means you need time to recover every now and then! I was hanging on by the tips of my fingers at times.
A thrilling yet dark thriller that will take you in every direction but the one you expect.
My thanks to NetGalley & Simon and Schuster UK for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
👩⚖️ REVIEW 👩⚖️
Conviction by Jack Jordan
Publishing Date: 21st June 2023
⭐️⭐️/5
Neve Harper is a well respected defence lawyer, having worked on trials for any crime you can think of. When a colleague dies just days before the start of a much-anticipated trial of a man accused of brutally murdering his wife and children, Neve is forced into the spotlight. However, when she is approached by a man and told that she must lose this trial or see her long buried secrets spilled to the public, her life begins to spiral. She has a decision to make: protect herself, or keep her professional integrity.
Despite my low rating, this is not necessarily a bad book. I am just not really a fan of thrillers, and I think this was just a nail in the coffin for me. Many readers who enjoy typical thrillers may have complete opposite opinions to me (its current Goodreads rating is over 4/5 so maybe it is just me). I just couldn’t connect with the story, felt very little sympathy for the protagonist, and generally just didn’t care that much. While some moments were tense and interesting, I felt the book dragged on quite a lot and could’ve been about 100 pages shorter and still have had a similar impact. It’s difficult to go into detail without spoilers but if you’re a fan of thrillers and enjoyed his previous book, Do No Harm, you may very well enjoy this one.
Another incredible moral dilemma thriller! This book had me gripped from start to finish, and I could not put it down! The tension throughout was perfectly sustained, with twists dropped in when you least expect them. I wasn’t sure how it was all going to wrap up, but I was very satisfied with the ending!
This was not a bad read. The plot was good, and the pace was okay. Characters were well drawn, and it was good to read.
Jack Jordan successfully delivered another amazing moral dilemma in Conviction, a cat and mouse type of novel that extends to the courtroom.
Neve Harper is Wade Darling’s barrister. The man stands trial in a case of familicide, where he is believed to have killed his wife and two children. Neve is determined to defend her client tooth and nail but that’s before she is being blackmailed to have him convicted. Someone not only knows one of her secrets, they also threaten the family she has left, namely her missing husband’s daughter Olivia.
What is she to do? Is Wade guilty or not guilty and would that make a difference? As the trial continues I saw Neve navigating a very fine line where she gives and takes a few punches figuratively speaking and I was continuously wondering which way it would go. I wanted Neve to do the right thing but what was that exactly?
There are courtroom novels that are rather slow and boring but this was certainly not one of them! I loved not knowing Neve’s next move and it was difficult to make up my mind about her as well so the jury (that would be me) was not only out on Wade but also on Neve. I wanted her to put up more of a fight early on, to find a way out and still save everyone involved and I saw her doubling under the pressure which was NOT what I wanted, I’m averse to weak protagonists, but I had my hopes up that she’d have some kind of ace up her sleeve after all. Some books have an anti-climatic ending but that certainly wasn’t the case here either. It still didn’t go as I expected but I wasn’t disappointed at all and that’s all I have to say about the ending.
I did foresee how Neve’s husband went missing and the reason for his disappearance especially from quite early on. I can’t say exactly what made me make this leap but there must have been a clue that I picked up on to come to that conclusion. I wasn’t a big fan of the reason why he disappeared, hence the four stars, although I did enjoy everything that followed afterwards in that plotline.
Conviction is a great legal thriller, a gripping read filled with well placed twists and turns. I can never get enough of these kind of plots and I love it when I can be really participate in such a way by making up my own mind. Guilty or not guilty, convicted or not convicted, I’m sure this page turner will hook many readers.
Conviction is my second read from Jack Jordon, and I was so excited to read this one, and I'm pleased to say it didn't disappoint.
Conviction follows two main characters, Wade Darling and Neve Harper. Neve is a barrister who has just been given a high-profile case where she must try and defend her client Wade, who is facing a murder charge. The case could be a great career-changing opportunity. However, just as Neve starts to build a strong case to get her client off, things take a turn. Someone knows a big secret she's been hiding, and they are now blackmailing her. Neve must decide whether to save her client or save her family!!
Conviction is fast-paced with an exciting plot that had me gripped from the start. It's well written with plenty of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. There were some tense moments, and honestly, I couldn't put the books down during these moments.
There are quite a lot of characters in the book, and at first, I thought I would struggle to remember them all and keep them straight in my mind, but they are well done and had no trouble remembering them at all. Although the characters are well done, I couldn't connect with any of them, and I also didn't quite know who to trust as all seemed to be hiding secrets.
Conviction is similar to Do No Harm and is more plot based, so it may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it very much and can't at to pick up another book by Jack soon.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers Simon and Schuster UK for my eARC.
These are my honest and unbiased thoughts and I am sharing them voluntarily.
I have read all books from this author and found this very different to his other books. A bit of a slow starter for me, personally, but once I got involved in the storyline I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster UK for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.
This was my first book by Jack Jordan and although at times I found the packing a little off when it really started moving I was hooked.
What a tense, fingernails-bitten-to-the-quick legal thriller! Wade Darling is on trial for the brutal wife of his wife and children, having allegedly murdered them before setting their home on fire. When his defence barrister dies, the case falls in the lap of Neve Harper. Is is potentially a career-making case if he is found innocent. However, she is threatened to "throw" the case or all her secrets will be revealed. What will she do? What is she hiding? Is Wade innocent or guilty? So much going on, I raced through this gripping story.
I love Jack Jordan’s books and was looking forward to this one. When top barrister, Neve, gets a well known case - the murder of Wade Darling’s wife and children - she starts to unearth information that his former barrister had overlooked. Unfortunately her predecessor had thrown himself under a train. However, when a messenger tells her she must lost the case or risk having her darkest secret exposed, she has to weigh up whether to mess up Wade’s case, or do the right thing but risk prison herself.
I found the first half of this book slow but the second half was tense and exciting. A slightly unbelievable end, but nevertheless an enjoyable read.
