Conviction by Jack is a thrilling courtroom drama about a lawyer’s decision between defending a potentially innocent man, or risk putting those she loves in mortal danger.

The plot moves along at a fast pace, providing tension, suspense, and some edge-of-your-seat moments as Neve makes her difficult choices.

Jack’s narrative structure, employing a non-linear story, provides a level of surprise, making sure readers are constantly hooked as to what happens next.

Overall, Conviction is a gripping and captivating tale of a woman’s choice between right and wrong and of loyalty versus justice. It is a must read for all who appreciate an intricately woven plot full of suspense and unexpected turns.

January 2019. It’s five days until the trial of the year, that of Wade Darling, accused of killing his wife and two teenage children prior to burning down their country mansion to the ground. Unexpectedly, the case lands on Neve Harper’s desk and if she wins, if she can prove Wade is innocent then she could be a shoo-in for QC. However, a day or so before the start of the trial she has a shocking encounter with ‘The Messenger’. He tells her to lose the case, Wade must not get off and in return her deepest, darkest secret will not be revealed or members of her family harmed. What a moral dilemma. She has to choose between her life or that of a potentially innocent man.

This is an extremely well plotted, multilayered, psychological thriller, which hooks me from the start. It begins with a bang, well, several actually, and you feel the suspense and tension from the beginning. Choosing to set the story across a few desperate days adds to the tension, you’re on the edge of your seat, trying to figure out which way it will go. It’s an evidential race against time, with the terror of the situation Neve finds herself in adding to the escalating tension. Describing her as being in a tailspin doesn’t do it justice, as it’s a claustrophobic net closing in type of scenario with the knowledge that The Messenger et al are most definitely not bluffing. It’s told at a good pace, the layers connect well, there are shocks and surprises, your suspicion antenna twitches in several directions, you doubt, you change your mind, which, of course keeps you reading on. The courtroom scenes are very good, they’re gripping as things bat back and forth. The tension and drama post verdict is almost Hollywood worthy and I like the ambiguous cliffhanger of an ending.

At the centre of this plot, you have two people who you can’t make your mind up about. Wade Darling, innocent or guilty? As for Neve, how likeable is she? The jury is out on that one, but I like that she is full on fight, she’s a clever woman with a strong personality who bears a heavy burden. She doesn’t always do the right thing, but that’s what makes her an interesting central protagonist.

Overall, a compelling rollercoaster of a read.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Simon and Schuster for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

I really enjoy a good legal thriller and ‘The Conviction’ is certainly that. This is my first taste of a Jack Jordan novel and every page I read made me want to read more of his work.

Wade Darling is in the dock accused of killing his wife and teenage children as they slept before burning the family home to the ground. Barrister Neve Harper accepts the job of defending Wade Darling knowing that success would be a massive accolade in her career. Day’s before the case is due to start Neve is approached by a man as she makes her way home. He tells her she must lose this case or the secret about her own husband’s disappearance will be revealed and he will kill everyone she cares about.

Neve finds herself in a ‘Catch 22’ situation, does she break every principle she has ever held by being responsible for a potentially innocent man going to prison or risk the lives of her nearest and dearest.

This is my type of novel, I enjoyed it from the start but once it got to the court scenes I was completely hooked. I will be reading more of this authors work.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Simon & Schuster UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Jack Jordan has done it again -taking a moral dilemma and making it his very own! In Conviction, we meet defence lawyer Neve Harper, who is defending Wade Darling, up on a charge of familicide, murdering his wife and teenage children. Wade's case has been the focus of a huge amount of media attention, and the prosecution seems clear cut, but when the original defence lawyer dies in mysterious circumstances, Neve is appointed to defend Wade against the allegations.

She soon finds out information that could be used to exonerate him, but why didn't the previous defence lawyer want to use it as evidence? Neve soon finds herself in an excruciating moral dilemma which plays out throughout the book.

We quickly find out that Neve is dealing with her own tragedy, the disappearance of her husband Matthew. Neve is certainly battling some of her own demons - and the interplay between the two storylines kept me gripped, watching Neve's emotions spill out into all aspects of her life.

The courtroom scenes are tense, the arguments on both the prosecution and defence side are sharp and pointed, and as a reader, you don't know which way to turn or how the story is going to evolve.

There are thematic similarities with Jack's recent smash hit, Do No Harm, where a doctor faced an ethical dilemma - but Conviction is as equally gripping with plot twists that I didn't anticipate. I'm sure its going to be another huge success! Thanks to Simon and Schuster for letting me read the ARC.

An incredible legal thriller that teaches the reader so much about the system, whilst also questioning their beliefs the entire time. I was left wondering what I would do in that situation, how I would feel, and the ending was absolute GOLD! I didn’t expect it at all, bravo!

Jack Jordan has done it again, another addictive gripping page turner that you'll be reading deep into the night. Unlikeable characters that you can't tear yourself away from. I was totally absorbed in the tension of this moral dilemma thriller. Neve a formidable barrister is a wonderfully complex character that although I didn't like her most of the time or her decision making I was still rooting for her throughout. I really enjoyed the court room element of the drama and it had me on tenderhooks throughout. A real roller coaster of a read with unexpected twists ans turns with hold your breath moments.

A brilliant courtroom drama and another brilliant story by Jack Jordan. Twisty and exceptionally well written. Highly recommended xx

I enjoyed the authors first novel Do No Harm and had great expectations of this legal thriller. Though fast paced, it was not for me and I failed to finish.

Wade Darling stands accused of the brutal murder of his family as they slept.Neve Harper is the barrister whose desk the case file has fallen on,if she can prove his innocence it will be a career making case for her.
Late one night before the trial she is approached by a man who tells her she must lose the case or her own secret about her husbands disappearance will be revealed,if she does not do as he asks everyone she cares about will be killed.
Neve has to make a choice send an innocent man to prison or protect her secret.
My first read from Jack Jordan but it won't be my last, this was a great courtroom drama twists galore and an ending I didn't expect.
I hope to read more about Neve in the future.
Thanks to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster uk for the ARC.

This is my first novel by Jack Jordan and I will read more!

I loved Neve’s character and I loved the skilful way Jordan wrote a moral quandary in to a legal thriller. Truly inspired. A read for everyone that wants a little more depth to their legal thrillers.

A well-written legal drama by Jack Jordan. A barrister defences a man charged with killing his family. From now nothing is obviously good or bad.
The book is a real page-turner. It was my first book by Jack Jordan but for sure not the last one.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Neve is a barrister, and has the biggest case of her career land on her desk. Her client is accused of killing his whole family. Neve is excited as this could make her whole career. Until she is approached, where a message is given. She must lose this case or else her secrets will be exposed, and her loved ones will be in danger. She has a choice to make.

This was a great courtroom thriller, with the moral dilemma attached. And it makes you think how you would choose. I enjoyed the characters in this story, who were written perfectly to accelerate the tension within the pages. There were many twists and turns throughout as we find out Neve’s secrets, and the choices she will make. A real page turner.

Jack Jordan goes from strength to strength with this expertly written tale of retribution and blackmail. Woven with Jack’s trademark moral dilemma, this is a book where the line between good and bad is never as obvious as it seems. Loved it! Coming June.

This had my name all over it, a legal thriller, a moral dilemma... read me now!
I did have some hesitation about the similarities to his previous book Do No Harm, which follows a surgeon being blackmailed to follow orders on the operating table. This has a similar scenario, of a legal barrister battling her professional compass to save her family from harm. I decided that maybe this is going to be Jack Jordan's 'thing'- so if his next book is involves a teacher, you heard it here first!
Once I accepted that, I found it gripping and readable, and extremely compelling reading. There are some scenes that I struggled with some reveals towards the end. It made me literally laugh out loud. I wish there were better conclusions to some of the main storylines as I think the book lost some credibilty towards the end.

⚖️ I love a courtroom drama and relish it even more when it’s written by the super talented Jack Jordan. Did I mention that he’s also a master at coming up with the most extraordinary moral dilemmas? Combine the two and you have conviction, a cracking binge-worthy thriller that has more twists and turns than the proverbial roller coaster. The critical tension (needed to make a thriller ‘thrilling’) is palpable from the start and continues to expand as the plot moves forward.
Neve is a defence barrister who is tasked with defending Wade Darling, a man charged with killing his wife and children. Days before the trial, a mystery man approaches her, telling her she must lose the case or her darkest secret will be revealed. Will she go against every principle she has ever had by putting a possibly innocent man in prison? Or risk putting those she loves in mortal danger?

The narrative moves between the court case and Neve’s story, both her past and the present. I really appreciated the way the author keeps the reader guessing. Will Neve deliberately lose the case? Or won’t she? Is Wade guilty? Not guilty? So many questions that taut the reader, but it means conviction is hard to put down for even a nanosecond!

Jordan skilfully builds on the suspicion and doubt, as he outlines the prosecution and defence case for Wade Darling. Readers will form their own verdict, but we’re talking THE Jack Jordan here! So remember this “Oh, what a tangled web Jack Jordan weaves when first he practice to deceive” and boy does he deceive in the best possible and delicious way! Should you buy conviction? It’s a huge YES from me. Anyone who doesn’t read it “your GUILTY beyond reasonable doubt” and subject to a hefty sentence! ⚖️

I loved this book - i have recently become a fan of jack jordan's writing. while this book was fantastic, i did prefer other works he had done (a main example being 'before her eyes') - that is the main reason why I have given this a lower rating because i was floored by that novel.

i have to say, jordan is absolutely fantastic at writing psychological thrillers! i will always pick up a book that he has written. it was easy to read and very fast paced. i loved reading about neve and while she is very morally grey, i was rooting for her right from the start. this is definitely an incredible book to read if you're a fan on tension and a lot of twists and turns.

i had so many questions right from the start of the book. i find that the best thrillers and crime novels have you questioning EVERYTHING. there is a lot happening in this book, and that is the best thing about it.

i want to say a big thank you to simon and schuster UK and netgalley for a copy of this book prior to publication. i shall be buying a physical copy upon release.

I found this very gripping from the start with protagonist Neve landing a prominent murder case to defend with just days to go until the trial. That said somewhere along the way this lost credibility, possibly due to Neve’s own secret or perhaps more so how it was discovered and by the time the journalist approached her I think it had become too incredulous. The main plot of her family being threatened and the steps it leads her to take along with the trial stuff all work really well and make for a solid thriller which ends well so I’m not sure why Neve’s background needed to be so extreme as it actually distracts from what is otherwise a brilliant legal thriller. 7/10

You are a successful defense barrister, about to begin the trial of your career...but what if you have to choose between upholding the justice system or saving your own skin? This is the dilemma Neve Harper faces in Jack Jordan's latest thriller.

I was really excited to be approved for this book because I raced through the author's last book, unable to turn the pages fast enough or remove my jaw from the floor.

It's difficult to review "Conviction" and I think it depends largely on context. On one hand, I enjoyed it enough to keep reading and finish the book. I never considered DNFing it. It's got the fast paced excitement of the last book "Do No Harm". I enjoyed the legal setting and the chapters in the trial setting.

One the other hand, the plot is frustatingly far too similar to his last book. It feels like the plot has been rehashed with just a couple of elements changed. I also felt the events of the book were increasingly implausible and/or wrapped up to quickly in a paragraph or two.

If this had been the first book I had read by this author, I would have got in with no expectations and I think I would have given it a higher rating because on it's own, it's a fast paced thrilling read. I will probably read a third book from this author, but this time, I will pay more attention to the blurb to ensure it's not too similar a read.

Thanks to the author, Simon and Schuster UK and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Conviction follows the case of Wade Darling, on trial for familicide. It’s a high profile case and one Neve Harper is surprised to have land at her feet following the death of Wade’s previous defence lawyer.

However the Messenger soon arrives threatening to unearth Neve’s own past.

I really enjoyed this book overall, especially the end. The only aspect I didn’t enjoy was Neve’s sleepwalking.

Thanks Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for my copy
