I love this series of books and this one has once again taught me a lot!
Louis Pasteur came from humble beginnings in France and yet changed the world forever with his scientific discoveries. Not only did he source and create vaccines but he developed pasteurisation as a method of preserving food and drink. After 3 of his 5 children died from childhood illnesses, he dedicated his scientific endeavours to medicine and using his knowledge to save lives.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this lovely educational book,
I really love the illustrations. the narrative was simple yet effective, introducing the person who's responsible for pasteurization & vaccines. There's also historical timeline at the end of the book to support the story. Looking forward to read another book from this series!
Another fascinating entry into the Little People, Big Dreams series! I enjoyed learning about the life and amazing contributions of renowned scientist Louis Pasteur. This book uses adorable illustrations and simple language to introduce children to Pasteur's life and contributions.
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for providing this ARC.
This book was a fun read. Not only is the illustration incredibly done with bright colors and adorable characters, but it's a wonderful introduction to the world of microbiology to children. As an adult who's not well versed in a lot of science, I loved that I was able to learn from this as much as my children would. I will definitely add this to our classroom to use with a future science unit.
Description, taken from Netgalley:
Little Louis was born in France during a time when doctors were still trying to figure out what made people sick. During his teen years, he discovered a love for science and became famous for figuring out how to kill off damaging microbes. Through his curiosity and creativity (and lots of trial and error), his research led to the development of vaccinations, a vital tool in today's world.

Honestly? What would we do without Medicine and Vaccinations (e.g. Measels, Pox and so many more) - we would suffer more than we should! I am so impressed by all people around the world who do researches for small but absolutely important things. And this isn´t a matter of modern times - Science was, is and will be soo important for us. Not only important, but also very interesting - to explore our little world called Earth. or to explore the Universe, which hopefully is the home to many many other Species (I suggest they will be friendly and curios as we are - please be like Rocky of Andy Weir´s Novel =)))
Anyway, the Little People Books are intersting, nicely illustrated and easy to read. And great to collect!!!
#LouisPasteur #NetGalley - thanks for letting me read this ARC
I opened this knowing absolutely nothing of Louis Pasteur and thoroughly enjoyed getting to learn about him, honestly was an incredible person. I'm surprised he isn't mentioned more in science classes (or at least my science classes) as it is very inspiring to hear what great work he did and the leaps and bounds he furthered science. Not only is this a great book to inspire young people but I think this would also be good to read to young children prior to their vaccinations to say how good they are and how they help protect them.
The story of Louis Pasteur starts with setting the time period, which is important in understanding one’s story, especially his story which involves discovering vaccines. It was a time when doctors didn’t know much about why people got sick.
Little Louis was a boy of many talents. It started with drawing and painting. Then, the love for science led him through interesting path. When he was a teacher of science, he was asked to find out why the wine was spoiling. This was the beginning of his extraordinary journey, which led him to proving that microbes were spoiling the wine. He found the process of pasteurization to deal with the microbes.
By studying animal diseases, he discovered vaccine, which later was tested on humans, and led to medical revolution.
This lovely series brings to light so many amazing people, who changed the course of humanity. It’s always accompanied by beautiful pictures. And has a good flow, easy to understand for children, and yet they can learn so much from it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing the arc in exchange for an honest review
As a science student, I appreciate the effort of the author and the people behind the book to introduce science to children in an exciting manner.
The lives of scientists are often the least discussed or portrayed as a boring biography, whereas this book succeeded to keep the curiousness. In this way, the story and the man behind the discovery will remain remembered easily. I loved the art, well integrated with the story. It's a cute and informative book for kids. I would recommend it.
This book series is perfect for introducing young children to the lives of some of the most inspiring and influential figures of the past.
This one explains in clear, accessible prose, the work of Louis Pasteur, the founder of modern microbiology and the scientist responsible for the use a vaccinations to prevent disease.
The simple language explains some very difficult scientific concepts in a way that children will understand, giving just enough information. For more detail and context, a more complex summarised biography is included at the end, accompanied by a timeline with photographs of Pasteur himself.
The illustrations perfectly complement the text. With their vibrant colours and clear detail, they add to text’s accessibility for younger children and create aesthetic appeal to keep engagement high.
Another great biography to add to the series.
This will always be my favorite biography series for kids. The story and writing is simplistic without being childish, so my first grader can get a threat first impression of Louis Pasteur. We enjoy reading the more in depth history at the back as well. I’m hasn’t know the personal connection Pasteur had to typhoid. This book is great for homeschooling families especially as it gives multiple resources to continue learning about Louis Pasteur. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.
As a teacher, I look for a book that will keep my students engaged while they are reading, especially as they are reading to learn. I love this series! The illustrations are wonderful and the information is relevant and exactly what I need my students to know.
Louis Pasteur has always been a scientist that I introduce in my classroom. He has made important discoveries and this book highlights those in a way that will make it enjoyable for kids.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I recently had a chance to review Louis Pasteur, one of the newest Little People, Big Dreams books coming out soon. It’s a series I will continue to recommend, I don’t have kids but love to give them as gifts!
I really enjoy reading the books about scientist but in a very easy to read format! Everyone has heard of vaccinations and it was interesting to learn how Louis Pasteur invented them while also having other interests. It shows kids that you don’t have to know what you want to do in life right away and can have many interests.
Thank you to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Louis Pasteur is a new addition to the Little People Big Dreams series. Written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, these books are a must-have for bright young minds.
The lessons in this book, as in all Little People Big Dreams series, are important for developing minds. In this book, we learn the story of Louis Pasteur. Inventing the process of pasteurization and making discoveries in vaccinations, this scientist’s research spearheaded the way to saving millions of lives across the world.
Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara has a fantastic way of showing the big picture. The accomplishments, but she never dismisses those small events that paved the way for those part of the Little People Big Dream series. Louis Pasteur was known as a scientist but was talented at drawing and painting. Showing children they don’t have to know who they will become. It teaches young minds how you can have multiple interests.
Pasteur not only finds the cause of the problem, why the wine was spoiled (microbes). He tried his best (another great lesson) which led to the pasteurization method. The constant learning, and researching, it’s what all kids do and what a great scientist like Louis Pasteur did as well.
I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books through NetGalley.
One of the latest in the Little People, Big Dreams biography series. Readers meet Pasteur as a child and discover when his passion for science began. His continued pursuit information about microbes led to an entire branch of scientific study. His commitment to learning shines through and offers encouragement to readers to pursue their own passions. The language works for elementary level readers and the ideas challenge them to learn and grow.
I love the Little People, Big Dreams series. The illustrations are so beautiful and they cover so many various famous people that everyone will find a book that will spark their interest.
I picked this one, because I love reading about scientists and wasn't disappointed. The information is short, but contains the most important details. And I cannot stop raving about the art style, it's adorable.
I'll definitely be reading this one to my friends' kids, but adults will appreciate the book too.
I received an eARC from NG in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.
This book is a part of the Little People, Big Dreams series for children where each book gives a kid-friendly biography about a great person. This edition is about Louis Pasteur, inventor of pasteurization and scientist. We all enjoy the fruits of his work with the milk we drink and that we don’t fall ill to illness as much nowadays thanks to vaccines. The artwork is well done and cute. I’d buy this book for a child in my life.
**Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-arc I received in exchange for my honest review**
You will never hear me say a bad thing about these books. They are all fantastic!!!
My kids have about 10 from the series and they love them all.
I don’t rate and review children’s books anymore, but I had to make an exception on this one.
When I was growing up my Dad owned this children’s book from the 70’s called The Value of believing in yourself: The Story of Louis Pasteur. It had very graphic scenes of this boy’s leg getting gnawed on by a rabid dog. It utterly horrified me. Seriously, look it up on YouTube. It’s terrifying.
This book is WAY more child appropriate and talks about the not so pleasant history of microbes and diseases in a completely suitable way for kids.
The graphics and illustrations are also very endearing.
I highly recommend not only this book but the whole series to any kid. Very, very informative!
A big thank you to Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary advanced copy of this book. This book will be published on March 7th, 2023. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Honestly these books are such a good idea. I’m 25 and only knew about milk and Louis Pasteur.
I love these little books so much. Brilliant for all ages
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
It is wonderful to see a series of books aimed at young children that promote the STEM subjects. This book in particular does a great job in prompting questions and encouraging children to be curious about science - in this case the impact of microbes and subsequent invention of pasteurisation and vaccines.
Favourite aspects:
Illustrations - the artwork in this book was lovely!
Further information at the back of the book - the story itself is understandably quite simplistic, and the inclusion of additional detail on Louis Pasteur's life at the back of the book is great for encouraging further research and discussion.
Why not 5 stars?
Whilst I think the premise and mission of this book are excellent, the narrative itself felt, at times, slightly disjointed and didn't quite flow. I would have preferred if the story was structured slightly differently to flow better.
The scientist whose name was so well-known everywhere, even made as a street name, He didn't come from a wealthy family, but one whom determined to gave him the best education. So in his lifetime, he found "pasteurization" which we all grateful for, and also vaccination. The will of the author to collect stories behind famous people was so admirable, and this is one of her work that is so inspiring.
