Calling all future race car drivers!
This is a fantastic book to showcase someone who had many hurdles to overcome, yet with love and a supportive father, he was able to become a Formula One champion.
Lewis grew up in a low-income home with divorced parents and was bullied at school. He wants other children to know that we all have what it takes to win, regardless of what others may think. He also fights tirelessly for equal access to sports, racial justice, racial diversity in sports, and travels the world encouraging children to dream of a better future.
I loved how he verbalized his dream and worked towards achieving it! I also liked how he gives back to the community and the underprivileged and never loses sight of where he came from. Children need to hear about winners such as Lewis. We don’t all have the best start in life, but we can choose where our journey takes us.
I was gifted this copy by Quarto Publishing Group, Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Another great title from the Little People, Big Dreams series! My family loves learning about the change-makers highlighted in this series, and this one was new to us. Lewis Hamilton started as a go kart racer and is now a race car driver who has pioneered the way for modern young Black racers. As with all books in this series, the illustrations were delightful, the content relatable for young kids, and the message of hope an inspiring one.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for providing us an advance readers copy to review! We enjoyed it.
Book about a race car driver, interesting. I am not a sports guy and do not follow race car drivers and do not follow sports and racial matters. The book was interesting and, for sports fans, likely fascinating. Quick, informative read.
Another lovely edition of Little People, BIG DREAMS. Inclusive artwork as always, and focussing on how you can achieve dreams even if you don't come from the same background as those already in the field.
I attended my first US Grand Prix in 2019. I wasn't a Formula 1 fan. My friend dragged me along to entertain her because her boyfriend at the time was into it. They're Mercedes fans. I knew nothing about F1. Judge me. I scrolled through photos and found a team based on the cuteness of the driver. Don't ask. Or do.
All I knew about Lewis Hamilton was that he used to date Nicole Scherzinger. Cute couple. I still knew nothing about him even after attending the race. Anyone else start watching Formula 1: Drive to Survive during peak Covid? I wanted to dislike Lewis. He seems like he would be a rather grandiose character. Turns out he is one of the more humble of the lot. I'm very sorry to be so mistaken. Here's looking at you, Max.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
I cannot sing the praises of the little people, big dreams series enough! Every book has such cute artwork for kids and the diverse choices of people to teach children about is wonderful. I was pleasantly surprised to see one on Lewis Hamilton coming out in March. I think this would be a good start for parents that are fans of F1 or the Netflix show Drive to Survive to get their children into racing themselves.
