I love Seth Carson!
This is a very heartwarming and funny read where the main characters learn to develop themselves in different ways and overcome their trouble with their history.
I love the development and change you see in Lana. She realises that she is a lot stronger and capable than she thought.
Seth also made a lot of developments himself in different ways and I love how loving and caring he is.
I love a lot of the side characters, especially Lama’s best friend May.
The characters were very relatable which I really liked.
Some of my favourite quotes are;
“From what I’ve heard, it seems like he goes through women like I go through books. He has a girl in every port, as the classics say.”
“If you want to know if you’re compatible with someone, take a trip to IKEA.”
Unfortunately I was unable to read this book due to formatting issues. My review is based on the blurb.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review
This sadly didn’t work for me, and the main issue was the characters. I do love mutual pining when neither realises the other is pining but at times Lana seemed oblivious which was frustrating to read. Seth just didn’t make sense to me – he mostly seemed condescending and not charming. The first half when things were shakier between our protagonists worked much better for me than the second half. There were also too many pop culture references for me, it felt like an overload. One issue I’ve run into with other books that popped up here too was when articles within the novel are meant to be brilliant, but the excerpts were…not brilliant and that really took me out of it.
A really enjoyable read, makes me keen to read more of the author’s books when they’re available. Very typical romcom second chance at love kind of story but written in a very entertaining way and the characters were great. I would happily recommend this to others
I really enjoyed this second chance romance - the spicey scenes were well done and I loved the ending.
Lana is in a job she doesn't really like when she ends up in a work competition against her ex. Who will win and get the job the want
When Lana Parker finds herself out of a long-term relationship after expecting to be engaged, the last thing she expects to find is her ex-boyfriend turning up at her workplace. Her uncomfortable position is made even more difficult by her boss asking her to compete with Seth, her ex-boyfriend, for a coveted position in the company. Forcing her to get out of her comfort zone and remain single whereas Seth is challenged to remain monogamous. What could possibly go wrong?
Second-chance romance books often aren't my favourite trope but Falon Ballard has definitely changed my opinion on this. Lana was a fantastic protagonist and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing her grow in confidence and feel comfortable in her own skin.
I devoured this book in a day. This delightful and easy-to-read book has me wanting to read more of Falon Ballard's work, I definitely need to read Lease on Love and will keep my eye out for her future releases.
Just My Type is a second-chance romance you don't want to miss!
Thank you Netgalley for the e-arc!
This book didn't start so great, I thought the premise was good but the initial set-up of the story was a bit bizarre, if not unbelievable (but hey, it's a romance book after all), I hope nothing like that ever happens in real life because it would be a massive red flag. However, it starts to make sense toward the end, and I loved the chemistry between the two main characters, so I decided to give it 4 stars. Also, bonus points because I liked the smut.
4.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Headline books for this ARC!
I’ve heard amazing things about this author so I was excited to give this one a try! I was not disappointed.
This is a second chance romance following Lana Parker, a writer for ATF (Always Take Fountain) on their dating advice column. The only problem is she would rather write about books and pop culture. After her boyfriend dumps her she is forced to realise that she has not been single since she was fourteen and started to date her high school sweetheart Seth. When arriving for work after the break up her boss reveals that her ex Seth has been temporarily hired and that they are going to be competing to get their own column (where they can talk about whatever they want) in a bigger company. The catch, Lana has to remain single and complete ten tasks about exploring her independence and Seth has to remain monogamous and explore settling down after six years on the road as a freelance journalist. They have to write about their experiences each week and then the readers get to vote on which article they liked more. As they start completing tasks however, they realise their love for each other may not be entirely in the past.
This was such an easy read, the writing style flowed and I found the main character hilarious. She had so many great one liners and is now one of my favourite romance characters of all time. I really loved the side character as well (apart from Natasha which we will get to in a bit), Lana had a great cast of friends and coworkers each with such definable traits and personalities that I could tell who was talking immediately.
The chemistry between Lana and Seth was undeniable from the start. As their history was slowly revealed throughout the book I was desperately rooting for them to get back together and be that couple again! Although the miscommunication/misunderstanding trope is used in this book I think it was done really well and actually helped us to understand the characters better. You could feel the tension between them as they did their tasks (which were so fun by the way!) and how they obviously had feelings for each other but didn’t want to act on them. There was also the sunflower tattoo scene which if you know you know, of course I didn’t cry (that’s a total lie). Seth is just so gentle and kind but also hilarious and witty. They bring out the best in each other even if they don’t want to admit it.
The premise was so fun and interesting! I love books that feature some kind of list/tasks that the characters have to go through to develop their personalities or find themselves. I loved seeing the scene where Lana and Seth volunteer together, you could see how much fulfilment they both got out of it and it was just so heartwarming and the ending had me in tears it was so beautiful!
I really did not like Natasha at all. She was extremely emotionally and psychologically manipulative and her making Lana not only complete the task of going on a one night stand but DOCUMENTING the whole thing just for publicity was borderline sexual coercion and it made me really uncomfortable. Granted Lana put that task on there but she should not have been made to put herself in a situation that she was obviously uncomfortable with. What I like about this however is how the author acknowledged this and showed Lana realising through therapy that she was being manipulated and that she deserved better. The author also showed us WHY Lana is so obsessed with being in a relationship and why her childhood and past experiences have led her to being more easily manipulated.
Seeing Lana develop as a character and to see her understanding her worth was really emotional for me. She is such a likeable and relatable character, she has a TBR cart! Her relationship with her mother was also really complicated and that added to the relatability of the character for me. I wish her book blog was real because I would 100% read it.
I’m just in love with Falon Ballard as a writer, she has become one of my new favourite romance writers! I still need to read A Lease on Love but now I’m even more excited to! Check this out if you love second chance romances with funny relatable characters who (need I say it again) have TBR carts! This came out on 7th February so you can get your hands on it right now and I would urge you to do so!

Wow, I was seriously not expecting to love this book as much as I did! I always feel a bit nervous with the second chance romance trope, because you know that they split up previously for a reason, but it worked SO well in this book. These two were each other's first loves, and you can see the lingering feelings left between the two of them after there was never any real closure 12 years previously. There's a little bit of miscommunication between them, which could be frustrating, but you see as the characters develop throughout the book how their communication also develops, which I loved.
There were an insane amount of pop-culture references in this book, which frustrates me because in a few years time, it might feel really dated - I mean one of the references in it already feels quite dated (where instead of saying 'thank God' or 'for God's sake', the MC will say 'thank Loki' or 'for Loki's sake'), when I think this is one of the better romcom books out there.
Especially because there is such a HEALTHY discussion of therapy!!! That was incredible to see, I really loved that, and for that reason alone people should pick up this book. Both the main character and the love interest go to therapy and it is such a positive discussion on therapy, I was absolutely loving it.
Also that epilogue was the cutest thing, and now I really want to read the author's debut novel!
Thank you to NetGalley and Fallon Ballard for access to this ARC.
I toyed a little with the rating for this book and decided on a respectable 3.5. I was engrossed in the writing from the beginning and was hyped that this had a lot of potential for a high rating but the middle was a little lacklustre for me.
It’s a second chance romance which is a firm favourite of mine. The pair, who were childhood lovers, reunite after many years fighting it out as rivals for a news column. It’s a nice easy read and by the end I was fully invested in their romance, but I wish there was more lust throughout!
This was the cute fun romance I needed.
While this did have the dreaded miscommunication trope, I also felt it made sense for these characters especially in their past. But it also happened due to stubbornness and hurt feelings that have been lingering for 12 years.
Seth and Lana had chemistry straight away. I had fun seeing their back and forth. Watching them reconnect and finally admit their feelings and let go of the past.
Not only did we see this but we also watch Lana grow as a person. Doing these tasks, which were out of her comfort zone, she ended up learning so much about herself and also confronting her mother and her boss.
This was such a fun and quick read. I definitely want to check out more of Falon's books.
What do a serial monogamist and a serial dater have in common? Not just a passion for writing but also a shared history. Lana Parker is a relationship columnist, jumping from one serious relationship to another since she was fourteen. Now at thirty, she’s been freshly dumped and gets assigned to write about being single, which means she needs to stay single. But not only that, she’s being pitted against a new journalist who's trialling at the website she works, Seth Carson, her first ex and the love of her life.
I will not lie, second chance romance is not really my vibe, but when I found out Fallon Ballard had written another book, my finger was already smashing request before I read what it was about. And thank goodness for that because Just My Type was so good. It made my stomach swoop, actually swoop, on several occasions. The tension in this book was highly addictive, and I binged hard once I got into it.
The history and chemistry shared by Seth and Lana were deep and undeniable; the anger and hurt surrounding the start of their journey in these pages was the perfect foundation for their relationship to unravel and bloom. Basically, what I'm trying to say eloquently is to read. This. Book. Read it!
I really enjoyed ‘Just my type’ a second chance romance book between Seth and Lana, two writers who are in competition together for their dream job. It was a quick read, I enjoyed watching the characters develop themselves through a lot of self learning and self love to make the right choices for them in the end. They take important steps including therapy to help them through past trauma and neglect which is definitely needed given the circumstances of Lana’s upbringing
I wish there was so much more on Rob and Tessa as you can tell there is chemistry between and I just wish this was explored a little bit more.
A cute and fun love story, which was both rivals to lovers and a second chance romance!
This was a fun read! I liked the writing style, it felt easy and confirming to read.
I liked the setting of LA, and Lana's friendship group. Her friends were all so supportive of her, it was sweet. Spin offs for them all, especially May??!
Lana read very young for me, and quite self centred, but I did like her, and enjoyed her growth, as she attempted to stand on her own, and to not just be in a relationship to avoid being alone. Seth was cute, and after making awful decisions as a teenager, had definitely matured. His previous behaviour irritated the hell out me, don't get me wrong, with some of my pet peeves of miscommunication, and making decisions for others because you think you know best..🙄but he did own those mistakes as an adult, and I appreciated that. They had great chemistry and some sweet banter. There was also some A star pining!
Lana's boss was something else, she very clearly stepped over the line multiple times! 👀
I enjoyed how some of this was written in text messages, group chat and the column articles and in the usual narrative, that was fun.
Overall it was very sweet, and for those who don't like reading romance with lots of sex, there was only a couple of open door scenes near the end.
I would've liked to get Seth's pov, but then again, the pining and love declaration wouldn't have hit as hard so 🤷♀️
Read this if you want an adorable second chance romance set in the work place, with some sizzle!🌻🌻🌻🌻
Just my Type had a Legally Blond style opening and some How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days style shenanigans but with a sense of humour all of it’s own.
FMC Lana was a nice change of pace to your typical ‘strong female lead’ (I love reading about those ladies too though). Lana’s strength was the quiet kind that even she didn’t see in herself at first. While this is definitely still a romcom with the romance arc doing what romance arcs do Lana’s journey of personal development was just as important and intertwined with the romance as we couldn’t have had one without the other. We see where her fears stemmed from then get a look how those fears have impacted her whole adult life. We’ve all got different ‘stuff’ good or bad that has influenced who we’ve grown into as adults and I think that makes Lana easy to relate to.
Seth was a likeable enough MMC but I could kind of take him or leave him. This character learned his lesson on paper but we didn’t actually get to see him live it because it happened so late in the book.
I did enjoy the backstory we got for both Seth and Lana as a couple and as individuals and thought this information was dished out in little nuggets at just the right time, informing the story while giving the present day a platform to move on from, while also avoiding the dreaded info dump.

Is there a more perfect book to kick off the month of love for me than this delightful rom-com… I don’t think so 🥰
Lana became single when she was literally least expecting it. On the back of this it is brought to her attention by both her most recent ex and her best friend May that she doesn’t know how to be on her own. She’s a serial monogamist.
12 years after their break up Seth turns up at Lana’s work, they’re both in the same profession and it appears Seth is after the same position Lana is, so her boss pits them against each other, they both set each other challenges with the winner getting the dream job. Lana learns more about herself than she bargains for because she completely understands why she’s jumped from relationship to relationship. Can they complete the challenges or will this become the second chance they’ve both dreamed of?
This has been one of my favourite rom-coms to date. With one of the best second chance tropes I’ve read too, it well and truly hit the spot with a touch of spice towards the end. I really wish I had time to have finished this quicker as it was completely binge worthy but alas responsibilities suck.
Thank you @putnambooks @falonballard and @netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I would firstly just like to thank NetGalley and the publishers who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my Kindle, in return for my honest review.
Just My Type is the perfect workplace rivalry rom-com and I really enjoyed everything about it.
I hadn’t read anything from this author before but i am so glad that I took the chance.
I really do love an enemies to lovers trope, its one of my favourites and this one was really written well.
Lana and Seth were two great characters and i enjoyed getting to know them both.
This was a sweet, romantic rom-com and well worth a read and i highly recommend it…..
Lana Parker, serial monogamist and resident relationship expert for a lifestyle magazine, is having a terrible day.
She thinks her boyfriend of four years is about to become her fiancé only for him to break up with her. Things can’t get worse than that can they? Well yes, yes they can. Who should be the newest journalist at said lifestyle magazine on the day she’s dumped.. THE EX, the high school sweetheart, her first love, the one she never quite got over and the one who broke her heart, twice! To make matters worse when her boss discovers their history she decides to pit them against each other in a weeks long competition for the chance to have their own column, writing whatever they choose, something Lana has wanted for 8 years!
This was so cute, I couldn’t put it down! I’m a sucker for a second chance romance so I was rooting for Lana and Seth from the start! Seth was my favourite, it was clear he loved her all along and I adore an ‘it’s always been you’ trope! It wasn’t just all romance though, it had some depth to it too with Lana’s therapy and overcoming her “issues”.
I really liked the side characters too, Lana had the best group of friends and the work chat was always amusing.
Can we also just take a moment to appreciate that cover! I think I’m going to need a physical copy for my shelves.
Read if you like:
• Second chance romance
• Workplace rivals
• Enemies/rivals to lovers
• It’s always been you
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review
From the moment I set eyes on the cover, I knew I was going to love this book, and I wasn't wrong.
The story was as gorgeous as the cover and I really couldn't put the book down. The characters were so well written I just had to read next to find out what happened
Thank you for this book, it's definitely a top read of the year so far for me, and I hope to read more by the author too. Have already told my friends they need a copy on their shelves too. I'd give so many more stars if I could
