I enjoyed the beginning of the book, but the last 25% felt rushed and lacking in plot. I did not connect with the characters much either and found the story not so believable and too predictable in places.
I have read a few Rosie Goodwin books and not come across a bad one yet. This was my first as an audio book. I found it was nice to listen to the story. The characters are very likable. The story flows and keeps you wanting to read more. Very enjoyable book would highly recommend.
You can't beat a book set in God's own county! This was a great story and well-narrated too. I love it when the narrator really fits the novel. Not an author I've read before but I'll be looking out for her books in the future. Thank you for the ARC.
A Season for Hope is a heart wrenching saga set in the 1800’s in Whitby. Amber is in service and works in the laundry for a wealthy family. When she realises she is pregnant with the master’s (Barnaby) baby, she turns to her mother for help. After giving birth she returns to he previous job and discovers the mistress’s newborn baby looks familiar.
This will be a fantastic read for fans of this genre and the narrator added another level of enjoyment to the novel.
What a lovely audiobook - I loved the characters, the way the story flowed. I always know if its a book I enjoy If I care for the characters. It was definitely an upstairs downstairs story, however it was sweet at the same time. Amber is a feisty girl who gets pregnant and is determined to do it alone. I thought the way she was written was exceptional. She is strong and knows what she wants. - One of the other books by this author that I have never forgotten is The Boy From Nowhere - its heart-rending and had me crying!
I chose to listen to this book as a change from what I've been reading recently. To begin with I was unsure that I would keep going but as the story progressed, I got really invested in Amber's life. It annoyed me at times when she made some ridiculous descions which seemed to be contrary to her character. However, overall I enjoyed the tale and would look for similar books for light relief in the future.
I listened to A Season For Hope by Rosie Goodwin on audiobook and it was one of the best books I’ve listened to in a long while! The story starts with Amber who is working as a laundry maid for the Greenwood family when she becomes pregnant by the Master, Barnaby Greenwood. She is sent away to have the baby to her Uncles house in Scarborough. The saga starts from here with Amber facing many twists and turns as the story unfolds keeping you absolutely hooked right until the end! Charlie Sanderson narrates the book and she does such a brilliant job of it - you really feel you are there in Whitby alongside Amber! I was so immersed. So thank you Bonnier UK Audio and to Netgalley for my copy .
