Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
This novel is billed as 'gripping' and with 'a massive twist' but I completely disagree. I thought many parts of the narrative were repetitive, telling us facts we already knew. The reason for the murders was obvious from the start. In all, I thought this was disappointing and it wasn't worth my time reading to the end. If you want an easy read you'll enjoy it, but it certainly isn't a gripping crime thriller.

I didn't realise this was part of a series but I didn't feel I had missed anythiing and it was still easy to follow. It's a fast paced thriller with good twists and turns.

"The Wrong Woman" by Helen H. Durrant

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.

In the picturesque Pennine foothills of North England, Detectives Harry Lennox and Jess Wilde find themselves embroiled in a chilling case that defies all expectations. Helen H. Durrant's latest crime thriller, "The Wrong Woman," is a rollercoaster ride of suspense, deception, and unexpected twists.

The dead woman, dressed like a macabre Victorian doll, lies before them. Her face, beaten beyond recognition, conceals the identity of Lori Lansing—a kidnapping victim whose wealthy husband paid a hefty ransom, only to lose her forever. As another young woman vanishes, Harry and Jess confront the possibility of a serial killer on the loose. But the clues lead them down treacherous paths, and the stakes couldn't be higher.

Durrant masterfully weaves a web of intrigue, keeping readers on the edge of their seats from the very first page. The pacing is relentless, each chapter revealing new layers of darkness. The picturesque setting contrasts sharply with the horrors unfolding, creating an eerie atmosphere that lingers long after the book is closed.

Detective Harry Lennox, haunted by his past, grapples with demons that threaten to resurface. Jess Wilde, ambitious and unafraid to bend the rules, complements him perfectly. Their chemistry crackles, adding depth to the narrative. And lurking in the shadows is Jess's enigmatic new love interest—a character who keeps us guessing.

"The Wrong Woman" is a maze of stunning revelations. Just when you think you've unraveled the truth, Durrant throws another curveball. The plot twists are diabolical, leaving readers breathless. And beneath it all lies a question: Can Harry and Jess stop the killer before more lives are shattered?

Helen H. Durrant's writing is crisp, her storytelling impeccable. If you're a fan of Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, or Joy Ellis, this book is a must-read. Prepare for sleepless nights as you race to uncover the chilling secrets hidden within "The Wrong Woman"

So I didn't realize that this was the third book in the series but I read it anyway and to be honest, I didn't find it hard to follow at all. It is a fast-paced past suspense-filled action, murder, organ theft thriller that leaves you wanting more.

I found this to be ok, nothing memorable about it, though. Lennox & Wilde are back in the 3rd installment of this detective series. A young woman goes missing & a few weeks later, a body is discovered. She’s so unrecognizable that we don’t know who it is. This story will take you from that to a Villain that controls the town, to possibly illegal medical procedures. There’s a lot going on, but easy to follow & fast paced.

This is the third book in the series featuring DI Harry Lennox and DS Jess Wilde. I had read the first book in the series but not the second. Harry and Jess are called out to investigate the murder of a woman. She has had her kidneys, eyes and fingers removed and her face battered. She was also left dressed in a Victorian dress looking like a doll. They soon realise that it is the body of a woman who was reported having been kidnapped but was never found even though her husband paid the ransom money. Another woman is reported missing and the trail leads to a local villain but all is not what it seems. I found this book contained plenty of drama and suspense and I look forward to book number four .
Thanks to Netgalley and Joffe Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

To say I wanted more would be an understatement. This was a delicious page turner right from the start. Everytime I had to put it down, it was all I could think about. I did end up finishing way past my bedtime, just so I would be able to sleep. If you love a quick, immersive detective thriller, than this is definitely for you!

I enjoy Helen H Durrants books and always request them. I did feel like this one was not as good as previous books though. However as always the book was a nice easy read and kept me entertained with different twists as the storyline went on

This book was just all right, though the scheme for extortion was good, but I found it too ,omg winded, too back and forth and detailed in the search. I kid of skimmed the end.

Absolutely loved this book , could not leave it down , a lot of twists and turns and so well written. I loved the way the story unfolded from the present to going back to earlier times . I have read other books by this brilliant author and they all are so good , leaving you guessing right to the end. Would really highly recommend this book as a must read.

Another fantastic Lennox and Wilde book from Helen H Durrant. The body of a young woman is found dressed up as a Victorian doll. Her face is beaten beyond recognition and DNA is the police’s only hope of identifying the woman. Her profile is matched to that of a local woman - kidnapped and seemingly killed after a failed ransom attempt. Are things that simple though?
Great book - highly recommended.

A very well-written book with wonderfully-interesting characters. The suspense builds at just the right pace as the story unfolds. Worthy of your TBR list.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read The Wrong Woman by Helen H Durrant.

This is the first book which I have read by this author and it definitely won't be the last.

I enjoyed the pace of this book, I thought the two main characters Jess and Harry were great too.

Lots of twists, which is always a bonus!!

Although this is the third book in this series, but the first one I had read, it stood up very well as a standalone and it was a very enjoyable read.

DI Lennox and DS Wilde discover a body bizarrely dressed up like a Victorian doll, a body that has been savagely beaten and had its kidneys and eyes removed. Everything is pointing to this being the body of a woman that was kidnapped three weeks earlier and the husband paid a half million pound ransom for. Lennox and Wilde set off investigating the murder which quickly takes them to a local nightspot that is owned by the local hoodlum.

I have to say I quickly took to the main characters in this series, and I enjoyed the interplay between them. Lennox it turns out is hiding away in England following threats from a particularly nasty criminal overlord in Scotland and is struggling to put down roots, or even have a place to live in because of this.

Overall I felt this was a good crime fiction book and turned out to be quite a complex case that unravelled like the layers of an onion, but also included quite a few red herrings and some good surprises along the way. It is quite a pacy and quick read but if you enjoy crime fiction I think you would enjoy this quick read.

The resolution left the series up in the air and I would like to think the author will find a way to write more in the series as overall I did enjoy this book and spending time with the central characters. The only thing that bothered me in this book was the title as I feel it gave away some of the plot well in advance.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A good enjoyable read. I like the characters and have enjoyed the series so far. Bit predictable in the storyline but good characters make it all the better.
