Really good book that highlights the work of Black artists.

A beautiful A to Z guide of Black Artists. Most are well known while some are not. The graphics and colors both capture your attention and soothe the mind as well. The synopses of each artist keeps you engaged. Every library and home should have a copy.

The illustration of this book is phenomenal! I read on my phone and the images were so vivid and rich. I couldn’t even tell I was reading on the phone. If it looks that good I can only imagine getting the physical copy. This was beautifully written. I learned a lot of new names. It piqued my interest but I was also able to read this to my nephews. It’s a great way to introduce them to Black History.

What a wonderful book! Its brightly colored illustrations will quickly pull the reader in. I was familiar with many of the fabulous artists included, but there were a few I didn't know. This book is a perfect addition to the classroom!

From Maya Angelo to Zora nail hurstings this book covers famous black artist mostly in the 19th century. It covers a gambit of artists from anthropologist to writers to dancers many other careers and all were exceptional in the craft. With great artist renderings Miss Reese pays homage to those we don’t hear enough about including the famous tap dancers the nickel brothers it seems in America we are playing catch up and those who should’ve been household names are people we are just hearing about but thanks to those like Cara Reese we will. I heard about this book when my daughter was looking for five books she had to order for her class written by black authors and I am so glad I did I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I received it from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Loved this! So bright and colorful with eye catching illustrations. I can’t wait to share this with my little ones. I love the variety of names and figures presented.

A very colorful and evocative book that a family could all enjoy together! I found the format a little bit forced since it is an ABC book and that necessitated being a little creative with the names. I would highly recommend that teachers get a copy for their classroom since it serves as a great starting point for children who are just getting to know a biography format and may need suggestions on who to write about. It would attract reluctant readers of all ages and could also be used to study prose.

The illustrations are amazing! Each letter of the alphabet is for an Artist with an accompanying poem and imagery. I could see the art for “N” Nina Simone hanging in my home! I’m not sure the intended age range but note that the legendary blues song Hoochie Coochie Man is mentioned for “W” Muddy Waters.
