Junko Tabei Masters the Mountains is an inspiring story about the first woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. BUT beyond her historic achievement, the book talks about themes such as conquering fear, growing through challenges, and the determination to overcome obstacles.

Junko Tabei Masters the Mountains from Rebel Girls was a fantastic read and very informative.

Junko Tabei was a name I knew as my stepfather was a climber and greatly admired her. Tabei was the first woman ever to climb Mount Everest and that is a phenomenal title to hold.

Her life and her achievements are told as a story, from the girl who couldn't handle sports, to being the woman both men and women admired across the globe. The telling of her life is one that makes you feel as though you are along for the ride and Junko comes across as being a rare type of woman who wasn't afraid to push herself and others to succeed. Everything initially goes against Junko, purely because she's a woman in a society that sees them as being only good as a wife and mother.. but there were rare moments and even rarer people who strove to change the world they lived in including Junko's own father who stood by her regardless of how it is seen.

I loved this particular Rebel Girls book, it's filled with everything that makes a story engaging plus offers information in an easy manner. I highly recommend this for any young adventurer who may think things ate beyond their reach to see that nothing is impossible if they are brave enough.

I love these Rebel Girls chapter books and this one is so inspiring! It takes you right on this adventure alongside her and teaches young girls that they're capable of doing anything. I'd never heard of Junko Tabei before and I'm so happy to have learned more about her!

Thank you NetGalley and Rebel Girls for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've read multiple Rebel Girls books before, but this one might be my favourite to date! It is absolutely inspirational to read about Junko Tabei and how she became the first female mountaineer, and the first woman to climb Mt. Everest! I mean, how do you beat that?!
This one just felt a bit different from all the other Rebel Girls biographies, as it brings you on an adventure alongside Junko! Strongly recommend!

I learned about another remarkable woman through Rebel Girls. This is the story of a young lady who is not athletic and faces pressure from her parents to marry quickly in post-WWII Japan. However, she achieves a lot in her beloved sports by simply putting one foot in front of the other and climbing higher mountains. I enjoyed the beautiful descriptions, pictures, and added features for kids.

I love Rebel Girls' smaller books and I'm always wanting to know more about these women and so I love how Rebel Girls also has longer books like these. I love how easy this book was to read and how informative it was!

This is the narrative nonfiction story of the first woman to climb the Seven Summits, starting with Mount Everest. She was a small, weak girl who persevered and followed her passion. She was able to "follow [her] mission with all [her] heart." There are cool activities at the end of the book.

Another fun Rebel Girls chapter book, this one chronicling the life of Junko Tabei, the first woman to climb Mt Everest. As a child, Junko thought that athletics weren't her thing, but after a class trip to climb a local mountain, her eyes were opened to a new possibility. This trip spawned a lifelong dedication to mountaineering in young Junko. She joined mountaineering clubs and climbed many mountains in Japan, even though women were not expected to succeed in this skill. Though not looking to marry, she finds love with a fellow mountaineer. With the support of her husband and family, she continued to hone her climbing skills, eventually going farther than any woman had gone before.

Junko's story is a great one, both relatable and inspiring. She set her goals and didn't stop until she succeeded. She didn't let the naysayers get her down, showing that women can do anything we put our minds to. This easy to read biography, like all Rebel Girls books, is beautifully illustrated and showcases the central figure's life from childhood on, in a format that young girls will enjoy reading. Would recommend.

Junko Tabei was the first female climber to reach the summit of Mount Everest. She wasn’t an athletic child, but when her elementary school teacher introduced her to mountain climbing, she found her passion. She spent her entire life climbing mountains and setting records.

I always enjoy the Rebel Girls books because I learn so much from them. I had never heard of Junko Tabei before reading this book, but I’m glad to have learned about such an inspiring woman. Junko’s biography was in a narrative format, which makes it easy to read and remember. This book is appropriate for a middle grade reader, but I enjoyed it as an adult reader.

Junko Tabei Masters the Mountains is a great Rebel Girls book!

Thank you Rebel Girls for providing a digital copy of this book.

Forever a fan of the Rebel Girls books, readers meet yet another inspiring individual in Junko Tabei Masters the Mountains. This book will especially speak to readers who believe they are not athletically inclined. This is the second book in the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls chapter book series and continues to be an excellent gift for any young reader.

The story of Junko Tabei introduces readers to the first woman to climb Mount Everest, and a sport most know little about, mountain climbing. Tabei was the first female mountain climber to summit Mount Everest, which is an exceptional accomplishment for someone who was regarded as “small” and “weak” by their peers. Readers explore the world, culture, struggles, and achievements with Tabei and learn about conquering fears, personal growth, and never shying away from a challenge.

As with all Rebel Girls stories, the story features powerful text paired with beautiful illustrations. Another element readers have come to know and love is the extra activities at the back of the book. This story features additional text on Tabei’s lasting legacy and three educational activities designed to strengthen physical skills and conquer fears. Thanks to Rebel Girls, I am always learning about different and inspiring women with every read. These stories resonate with readers of all ages and inspire us all the same, even though they are recommended for readers in grades two to five. I would have loved a copy of this book in my advanced readers' bin at that age!

Thank you to Netgalley and Rebel Girls for an eARC in exchange for my honest review!

Another famous woman I got to know through the great Rebel Girls series. This is about a "small and week" girl who´s not into athletics at all but learns to climb even higher mountains in spite of her parents wanting her to marry soon in Japan after WWII. She knows it´s about setting one foot after the other and achieves a lot in the sports she loves. I liked the usual lovely descriptions and pictures as well as the additions for (not only) children in the end.

That was an interesting book as I did Enjoy the story about her, finding her own desires and finding a way around it also light has termination and finding what she would call her own life in something she loves, and it just give me a push to find my own dreams, and my own life that I would like and carve it myself. I actually really enjoy these books. I’ve read a lot of books by this group and I will continue to read more of them in the future as they are just so positive and they get you hyped for your self so I would definitely highly recommend, especially for younger women who are feeling incompetent or down on themselves as a way to pick them up and tell them that they can be whoever they want to be

Another of the excellent Rebel Girls books focused on individual heroines, this instalment focuses on Junko Tabei, Japanese mountain climber, and the first woman to scale Everest. From a young girl who was so bad at athletics that the other students all used to laugh at her, to the peak of physical achievement, Junki's life is another truly inspiring tale for young women.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. All opinions are my own.

Once again Rebel Girls manages to educate me while keeping me entertained. I have never heard of Junko Tabei, prior to this book, but now I'm on YouTube to see if I can find an educational video.

If you see Rebel Girls, you know the story will be well written and relatable.

Junko Tabei Masters the mountains was a fabulous book full of inspiration, the importance of perseverance and the benefit of following your heart to live a life full of joy.

As a parent and teacher I would include this as part of my regular education programme as it is an engaging story which highlights strong values and personal qualities written for children ages 8-13. There are so many opportunities for deep discussions and exploration of the world and of ourselves.

Junko is such a quietly strong child who realises the benefit of pushing herself, no matter the gifts and talents she was or wasn’t born with. As she grows she dedicates herself to goals which bring her happiness, despite the societal pressures for Japanese girls of her time.

As a young woman we see this resilience together with her persistence to live her life as she chooses, but we witness how being her authentic self influences those around her.

Junko lives through some difficult times in her life, as we all do, but seems to move forward by continuing to stay true to herself. I will be sharing this book with my daughters to encourage them to see the greatness within themselves and recognise the gift of goal setting.

Isn't it crazy how we all know Reinhold Messner but so many, me included, have never heard of Junko Tabei? That's honestly bad so I am very thankful for the Rebel Girls books to learn about her and other inspiring women.

A great biography perfect for early middle grade readers about a woman who became great at her chosen field through hard work, determination, and a great support system. Sure to be inspirational and informative for young readers.

A brilliant and inspiring tale of never giving up. Of women being perfectly capable of doing the things men do. And a sneaky insight to Japanese culture. A definite for school libraries!
