This book was a quick and easy read. I enjoyed the first half, maybe 3/4 and then it got a little weird for me. I didn't like the road it headed down.

I typically enjoy this author and would definitely try her again, but this trope wasn't a winner for me.

Rating: 4/5

*The Summer House* by Keri Beevis is a psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. The story centers around twins Ollie and his sister, who return to their grandmother's home, Mead House, after her death. Their task to empty the house for resale soon turns into a journey of uncovering dark family secrets, especially related to their elder sister’s brutal murder many years ago.

**Strengths:**
- **Compelling Plot:** The narrative is rich with suspense and twists, which makes it hard to put down. The discovery of their sister’s secret journal adds a layer of mystery that keeps readers engaged.
- **Atmosphere:** Beevis excels at creating a tense, eerie atmosphere that enhances the thriller aspect of the book.
- **Emotional Depth:** The book effectively portrays the emotional turmoil of the characters, especially as they confront their past and the possibility that an innocent person was wrongfully convicted
**Weaknesses:**
- **Character Development:** Some readers might find certain characters less developed, which can occasionally make it difficult to fully connect with their motives and actions.
- **Pacing:** While the book is generally well-paced, some sections might feel slower, especially when delving into the past and the intricacies of family relationships

Overall, *The Summer House* is a gripping read that combines psychological depth with a well-crafted mystery. It’s a recommended pick for those who enjoy a suspenseful, emotionally charged thriller set against the backdrop of dark family secrets.

I loved this book! I way behind on my review, but I definitely recommend reading this one. It kept my attention, and on the edge of my chair all the way to the end. It's a slow burn kind of book. You know who did it, but putting the pieces together is the fun part.
Thank you to netgalley the publisher and mostly the author for the entertainment.

Keri Beevis’ The Summer House is the story of Lana Hamilton, her family, and how the past. Lana and her twin brother return to their grandmother’s home, Mead House, where the past haunts them daily. After a diary is found that belonged to her sister, Lana find herself in search of answers to what happened years before. This is story about family, love, secrets, murder, and forgiveness. This is my second Keri Beevis book, and let’s just say I am now a fan. One thrilling book is one thing, but two in a row is another. This book however, is my favorite!

I find that I am pretty good at guessing the who dun it of a book, this one had me stumped. Everyone was a suspect, everyone had motive. I also really enjoyed the love story between Lana and Xav. This book had a little of everything, romance, lies, murder, thrills and a beautiful setting of the Mead House.

I’m sad I finished this book in 2 days (being on vacation, it was super easy to do) because I want more! Guess I’ll need to pick up a few more of Keri’s books! :)

BOOK REVIEW POST
THE SUMMER HOUSE
by Keri Beevis
🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪

Every now and again I find a book that completely captivates me from the first page. The Summer House did exactly that. What a brilliant read! I love books that not only tell a story but also hold a deep mystery to be solved. I liked that the story was told in third person, switching to first person and the perspective of the as yet unidentified killer, and occasionally flashing back to 2005, the fateful year that Lana’s sister Camille was murdered in the summer house. The different perspectives and times didn’t feel confusing and were neatly tucked into their own chapters. There were several big twists in this story which were able to throw me off track each time, proving once and for all that my investigative skills have become about as reliable as a TikTok psychic. There were several suspects all of whom were plausible and capable of murder, thus keeping you guessing about the killer’s identity and if they had acted alone.

I liked Lana but I had to shout at the book once or twice about her judgement in the moment. She was resigned to clearing her late grandmother’s house and had no intention of staying a moment longer than necessary, given its tragic history for her family. Then everything changed. She was initially combative with twin brother Ollie, to whom I took an immediate dislike, and his surprise guest Elise. Then I switched and began warming to Ollie, while Elise became the “person least likely to be missed” as far as I was concerned. The other characters played their parts perfectly and were likeable and disagreeable as necessary. I had George the gardener down as a wrong’un from the start although I still liked him more than Elise. Nobody felt unnecessary and most became suspects at some stage.

Overall, this is in my top 5 books of the year so far. Everything fitted together like a cross between Lego and Tetris, and the eventual big reveal which caught me by surprise was brilliant. I highly recommend this book to any reader of crime or psychological thrillers, or anyone wanting an exciting read. I gave The Summer House, by Keri Beevis, five knives 🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪and cant wait for her next book.

When the opening chapter of a book has you gasping out loud and intrigued from the outset, you know you’re in for a thrilling read!

Setting the scene years earlier in 2005, we discover the details of a gruesome murder at the Summer House in Mead House. Fast forward to the present day and it seems that despite the supposed culprit having been sent to prison for the crime, there are things coming to light which suggest the true killer may still be at large.

There is plenty of tension and suspense as the author keeps the reader second-guessing by revealing potential suspects and motives along the way, whilst also adding drama to modern day events as strange occurrences appear to put Lara, the murder victim’s younger sister, in danger too.

This is one you won’t want to put down until you find out ‘who done it!’.

With thanks to the author, Rachel at Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to participate in the tour.

Brilliant book!
This was a great psychological thriller, it had everything I want in this genre. It was fast paced, full of twists and turns, great characters and a real page turner.
Having read most of the author's books she is becoming one of my 'must read' author's as I really enjoy her style of writing.
I would definitely recommend both this book and the author.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this read.

This was my first Keri Beevis book, and it won't be my last. This book was fast-paced, atmospheric, and kept me guessing every chapter! Loved it.

This was my first from this author. I enjoyed the premise of this one! I ended up listening on audio while reading along and enjoyed the audio for this one as well. I'll be picking up others from this author eventually!

Lana has to head back to the house from her childhood with her older brother and it leads her to wonder, did the right person get put in prison for the death of her sister? There's quite a few POVs in this one, but after a couple chapters it's easy to follow and doesn't disrupt from the plot, but adds to it in helping the reader question who is at fault.

3.5 stars.
