I waited a long time to post this review but after thinking about it I feel like it’s necessary to explain why I cannot recommend this book. I was first put off by the description of the FMC and her profession as a doctor because I work in healthcare and none of what she described is plausible at all. What really makes me unable to recommend this book is the racist undertones and stereotyping that occurs when side characters were described. They left me feeling very uncomfortable and nothing that was mentioned added anything to the story. I think this author would benefit from some cultural awareness training.

A chiselled firefighter with newly made superpowers abducts a woman with a STEM background and a feisty personality? Yeah, I'm down for this book.

The plot is very engaging and fast paced. The characters are likeable, if they do unfortunately meet the stereotype of all fantasy MCs having tragic backstories and unresolved trauma (give these fictional characters a break, sheesh). The romance was pure fire (haha!). I'll definitely be coming back for any companion novels.

ARC received for review

Love Ms. Jordan's books and was excited to see a new series.

Teague was grumpy and not afraid of anything in his search for the truth and his daughter. Alyssa started out being along for the ride (not willingly), but started to help and then fall of Teague. Loved all the other people we meet especially her brother.

We get their HEA but the bad guys are still out there.

I devoured this book in just two days and now I’m going to have to look up every book that @skyejordanauthor has ever written so I can devour them too.

Hot blooded had me hooked instantly . I was struggling to get into anything (whilst taking a break from throne of glass re-read) and this book definitely had me intrigued .

A tense slow burn romance ( just a teeny weeny bit of spice) that makes you just want to lap up every page .

You can read it for free now on kindle unlimited too as well as the next two in the series .

I dont know why this book had me stubling to start it.. I think I was in a readers funk. this is a fun "paranormally" book. (people with powers). there is corruption, fear, horrible people, good people, and a innocent child stuck in the middle with a father trying to move hell and earth to save her. Its riviting. there is also romance that works but at first feels awkward.

This is book 1 in the new Phoenix Rising series and if you like PNR books, you will definitely like this book. Convicted of a grisly murder he didn’t commit, Teague Creek has nothing to lose. In a desperate escape, he abducts a hostage to use as leverage, only to find out he’s taken the wrong woman. Soon, it’s clear not only the cops and the FBI are hunting him, but his ugly past has joined the chase. And while Alyssa Foster may not be the woman he needs, she turns out to be the only woman he wants. Alyssa is nearing the conclusion of her radiology fellowship with an amazing job on the horizon, but when she’s abducted by a prison inmate, her coveted position at the hospital she loves is put at risk. Creek has powers she doesn’t understand and a heart that tells her he’s not a hardened criminal. But when Alyssa digs in to help him, she finds something much darker than she expected. Undercover operatives want Creek silenced and they don’t care who they have to take out to succeed.

I absolutely loved this book! The suspense of what happened to Teague and his team sucked me in from the beginning. You throw in his interactions with Alyssa and how their relationship comes about and I was completely hooked. My only drawback? The beginning was a little slow and I had to push through that portion. But once I was past that point, I was completely drawn in. Definitely a great way to start a series!

Truthfully, did not grab my attention as much as I would liked it to. There was just too much going on and it fell flat for me.

What can I say? this book does not try to make itself anything it isn't. If you like HEAT with a side of ANGST .. get this book!

The characters were great, the worldbuilding flowed and built perfectly, which can be hard to do for a first book in a series since you have to introduce so many things. Speaking of first in a series... I am now committed to continuing once the others come out, because I can't get certain parts of this book out of my head! Tiny bits of humor and character driven motivations that made the whole thing quite fun and quick for me to read. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from this writer. As always, thank you to NetGalley, Author Collection 2.0 and Skye Jordan for this ARC that I received in exchange for my honest review.

I got a lot of superhero vibes from this book, with the fighting, exposure to toxic chemicals, and a desperate attempt to fix a wrong done. There was not a dull moment full of heart racing action, suspense and tension. I liked the writing; the pace was good. It has an enemy to lover's type trope to it. We follow Teague and Alyssa. Teague is trying to desperately reunite with his daughter, but the only way to do that is to escape prison, after he was convicted of murder. Things don’t go according to plans and now he has more baggage than he planned and now he has to try and keep her safe and his desires in check.
I liked the different powers, how the characters of this book are first responders, so they have different skills in this book besides just relying on new abilities. Teague was interesting in the way his powers manifest and he is still really trying to learn to control them.
Some of the ending twists were interesting and I found they added a complex addition to the story. There was nonstop action happening pretty much the whole story, someone was always chasing them or trying to attack Alyssa. I felt that there were no breaks in between all this happening and some of it felt redundant. Some of Teague's plan was not really thought out well; it had a lot of holes. The relationship development was ok, had some good spice. Overall, I had an ok time. I will continue on with the series, I want to know what is going to happen to the rest of the crew.
Trigger warnings: sexual harassment and assault, blood, violence.
I received an advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.

[Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the ebook. This review is my honest opinion but just another opinion, you should read this book and judge it by yourself]

--------

❤️‍🔥 Provocative, Pulse Pounding, Assassin’s and Kidnapping ❤️‍🔥

It’s been a while since I have read a book by Skye Jordan and let me tell ya, she still knows how to create a fantastic story! This is the first book in Jordan’s Phoenix Rising Series and it’s off to on hell of a fiery start! 🔥😍❤️‍🔥
Here is what you can look forward to in “Hot Blooded”
▪️ Stellar World Building ✔️
▪️ Sexy Bad Boys ✔️
▪️ Mystery ✔️
▪️ Enemies to Lovers ✔️✔️
▪️ Story that grabs your attention and doesn’t let go ✔️
▪️ Two MCs that are perfectly imperfect
▪️ Action packed
▪️

This is Teague’s and Alyssa’s story and while their story is a great introduction to the series, I get the feeling the best is yet to come! Teague is incarcerated for a murder that he actually didn’t do; Alyssa is finishing her Radiology fellowship and she is the victim of a wrong place wrong time situation. This romance doesn’t start out on the best foot but if you enjoy some suspense, angst, drama, and then finally a happy ending - you will enjoy this story.

This story does have some aspects that are likely triggers for some readers, please check the TW. There are also aspects to the story that usually irritate me such as “insta-love” but I chose to just roll with it this time. I would have appreciated a prologue that provided some of the backstory to the entire series theme, instead the background is revealed via characters memory’s.

Thank you Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book❤️

Action Packed Firefighters with powers, angst and tension, and constant suspense. Get ready for a lot to go down!!

This book was new to me. (Thinking now, that’s probably why I didn’t connect the way I would have liked). It kinda felt like it was trying to be a dark romance but it was mainly action. The powers wasn’t like Fantasy, it was more like Sci-Fi.

The highest part of my rating came from the storytelling. It was nonstop action (but in a good way). You were on the edge of your seat the whole time! My attention was always there and I never wanted to look away. You’re probably wondering. Where’s the disconnect then? Shhh listen. I couldn’t connect with it:( It was like I was trying to force a relationship with someone I really couldn’t.

I also really thought this would be more romance. Did I get some really good tension moments? ABSOLUTELY. That’s why you gotta jump into books not knowing a lot so you can’t expect everything.

Sorry this was a sucky review. But it’s been so hard to find words lately. Give this one a try❤️

First let's start with all you KU users, this book is currently (as of this post) available on Kindle Unlimited! Now let's talk about the cover. I think it bothers me a little bit that the phoenix on the back is off center... other than that it's alright. You know that the book has something with fire, maybe a little paranormal aspects.

This book is ok, it wasn't one of those book I couldn't put down, so it took me a minute to read. I'm trying to think of wear to start here, so let's talk POVs. We have 3 character POVs, but no chapter heading to let us know which character is taking lead. That isn't always necessary, but it can help when your brain makes the movies and has to change all of the sudden. I didn't feel like Vassar's POV was necessary and that it didn't add much to the story, mostly we know that there's a conspiracy and he is in charge of hunting Creek or Teague, we hopped around on names in the beginning and it took me a minute to figure out what his name was. Same with the daughter, especially at the end. We kept calling her by full names and nick names from sentence to sentence.

I like the chemistry between Creek and Alyssa. There romance went from mutual attraction to love in a very short time though. I guess hard times and fun sex lead to love. I felt like there were a few throw away characters that never really get explained. Like who was the guy that came in to assist Vassar, why was he considered such a bad ass? He was there then gone in a chapter. We don't know a lot about the government issues, but I suspect that will come up more in the future books. I felt like we had this slow build up, building a relationship between Creek and Alyssa, then everything just wham bam happened.

I need more info about Alyssa's brother. He is really interesting. He just existed in this crazy life with minimal explanation. I need more. Who knows, maybe that will come up in the future too. The writing was pretty good. I enjoyed the story, the suspense, the mystery aspects of it. It just didn't feel really complete to me. Too many questions going on in the end for my liking.

I loved this book. The plot is different from most romance books. I like the fact the characters are unique and really draw you in. I look forward to the next book in the series.

It’s been a hot minute since I read any prisoner romances (thank you Sophie Jordan) so I was really excited when I heard about this one, and it did not disappoint. This was a great blend of on the run suspense, a wronged hero, chemistry and a little bit of paranormal thrown in for good measure.

Our heroine is a doctor and is taken hostage by our escaped prisoner hero when she is tending him in the hospital. She doesn’t know that he has taken her on purpose, and he doesn’t know he’s taken the wrong woman hostage. The two are then thrown in to a race for survival and a fight for freedom.

This book had great pacing that didn’t make you want to put it down. The characters were interesting and made you believe they have a connection as opposed to Stockholm Syndrome. I really enjoyed this book and I totally want more books about escaped prisoners now.

Hot Blooded is the first book in Skye Jordan’s new series called Phoenix Rising. Hot Blooded is Teague and Alyssa’s story. When they meet Teague is serving a life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. Teague who is desperate to be with his daughter again, escapes with Alyssa as his hostage. Will they be able to prove his innocence and get his daughter back before the people who were behind him getting convicted silence him and anyone who gets in their way for good? Read Hot Blooded to find out.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good romantic suspense story and who won’t mind a little paranormal added into the mix.

This was the first book that I've read from Skye Jordan and it was pretty good. I definitely found the pace in some places to be a little slow, but there's a lot to keep you entertained throughout the entire book. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a good paranormal read and I'd be interested to read the rest of the series by her as it continues.

Thanks #netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
