The action just never stops in this book! Cam starts out as a normal guy with past relationships of high ranking political figures. We know one of them has a long term relationship with a high level call girl. That story thread slows down when she is supposedly killed. Then Cam is asked to take on some project for the president. That is when the story becomes interesting. There are twists, turns and lots of travel. So much to keep track of but sure makes for an interesting story. If you like political mysteries this will capture your interest.
Fabulous!! This was a great story which I could not put down. Would recommend this to everyone who loves this genre.
The book is slow to develop the story line. Dare I say it, even dull. It takes forever to engage the audience, that most will give up a quarter of the way in.
The Russia Leak: A White House hopeful is a real page turner!
As per the blurb, we encounter the mistress, extortion, espionage, murder and revenge; all mixed up in a tangle of stories and clues, with clever cliff hangers throughout the book making it difficult to put down. The characters are well developed and the insight into the US political system is well researched and very believable - and clearly corrupt.
It's easy to see that Ganaway is passionate about the thriller genre and influenced by some of the best writers including Connelly, Baldacci, Grisham, and Clancy.
Would it be premature to wish that there will be a sequel?
The Russia Leak is a very suspenseful thriller that will keep you on your toes through the whole read.
Hopefully, there will be more Cam Warfield books to read. Loved this political thriller! I received an ARC from NetGalley and the opinions expressed are my own.
As much as I wanted to like The Russia Leak: A White House hopeful, certain things kept getting in the way. In an apparent attempt to ramp up the excitement, author, Nick Ganaway, continuously added incredible scenarios. The Japan segment was just confusing. The more the main character, Cam Warfield, proceeded the less likely the credibility. (I felt horribly sorry for poor Leroy.) Adding the hurricane only emphasizes my point. I'd say more but don't want to spoil anything.
My other issue with the novel is that it is endless. Once the main action is wound up, it just goes on and on with new incredible scenarios. Oh well, that's just my opinion.
(...and what's with the odd title?)
Thanks Netgalley for the ARC.
I received an ARC through "NetGalley" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest reveiw.
This story will hook you right from the beginning. It starts with an unnamed high executive official who winds up killing a woman in Atlantic City. It then jumps to Russia where a nuclear scientist that with the Cold War finishing has fallen on hard times. He has decided to steal nuclear material that can be used to build a nuclear bomb. The story then goes to the U.S. where information has been learned and introduces Cam who the President has asked to help foil the sale of thaat nuclear material. It also introduces the fact that there is a mole in one of the agencies that is providing information to a terrorist group.
Read the story of Cam's pursuit of the mole in addition to what actions he had to take if he was to foil the plan for stopping the buikd and use of a nuclear bomb. See what hurdles were tried to prevent his mission and what steps the mole was willing to take to prevent his discovery.
The ending wraps up the story quite well. This is a definite read that you need to do.
This was another book that I had received from the author and the fine folks at NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
The Russia Leak is a super-tense super-believable standalone debut thriller. If you like a layered character (Warfield), breathtaking twists, and true edge-of-your-seat stakes,
The one major issue that I found with this novel is that the subplot of Fumio Yoshida, a Japanese transportation minister, in what appears to be another subplot unrelated to the main one of political scandal as a low-level politician crosses the line and faces the consequences many years later. While both tales were good, I think that would have enjoyed the novel more if the story had been more about the first tale and this had been more fleshed out
Fans of Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn would enjoy this novel as two individual tales of terrorism and political intrigue are attempted to be intertwined as they are tenuously tied together only the use of the protagonist Cam Warfield, a former army colonel who has managed to create a training school for pupils of the FBI and CIA.
While the tales are full of excitement and action, the fact that the novel is actually two tales and not one story would definitely cause a lower rating on my part. As such, I would rate this book a solid three and three-quarter stars out of five.
As with all my literary ramblings, this is just my five cents worth.
"The Russia leak" is a thrilling and fast-paced spy novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The main character, a retired Army Col. Must navigate a complex web of international espionage as he attempts to find missing nuclear material The book is filled with non-stop action, clever plot twists, and a touch of romance, making it a great read. The pacing is excellent and the characters are well-developed. Overall, it's a must-read for anyone who loves a good spy story.
