The Other Mothers is a hugely entertaining murder investigation slash social commentary.
Tash and husband Tam have moved to a new area of London with their young son Finn. Finn isnt finding it easy to settle in to nursery so when fellow mum Laura offers to help Tash out by arranging play dates for Finn and her child, Tash is delighted. Laura is part of a clique of yummy mummies with ultra luxury lifestyles; the group welcome Tash and Finn to join them. The group grow closer, meeting often for coffee get-togethers and nights out.
Tash is a freelance journalist, looking for a story to help her launch her career. She hears about the suspicious death of nanny Sophie, who had been found drowned. Sophie starts investigating her death and her life beforehand, but when her investigation crosses over into her life as a mother and links are made with the new friends, she is stuck at a crossroads, with no idea what to do for the best.
Quick paced- I guessed some of the reveals but others took me by surprise.
I couldn't read this as an ebook for some reason so will get it when it comes out! Sorry! (Leaving a 4 star review to be fair.)
Tash, a new mother and aspiring freelance journalist, becomes fascinated by the mysterious death of a young nanny in her London neighborhood. Juggling her marriage, caring for her energetic young son, and trying to restart her journalism career with freelance work, Tash can’t help but ask questions about the nanny’s death. As she investigates, she hopes to uncover a compelling story that could launch her career. Along the way, she befriends a group of sophisticated mothers from her son’s playgroup, who may hold the key to unraveling the mystery. The novel explores themes of motherhood, friendship, and secrets, with unexpected twists and reveals. It was an engrossing, slow-burn mystery/suspense novel.
Thank you to Netgalley for my arc of this book.
After reading and absolutely loving Greenwich Park, this was top of my request list!
I got recommended to read this and at the beginning I was really invested.
I really liked the MC at the beginning and where the story was going. However I found it a bit too long and I struggled to remember who was who - there was a load of mums who were all very similar. It got going in the middle and I did speed read it, however I found the ending to be a bit rushed and anticlimactic.
An ok read but not near the love I have for Greenwich Park
I didn’t know what to make of this at first as there were some characters I took an instant dislike to. It is certainly a story with plenty of twists and turns, and where most of the characters have made some interesting if not poor decisions, and most can lie to suit their needs. I would have liked the ending to have been wrapped up a little neater and more justice given for Sophie. But overall enjoyed this book.
This was my first book by Katherine Faulkner but I was hooked from the start! Will 100% be looking out for more of her work, everyone should pick this book up this year.
I loved this book! It kept me gripped throughout, and I raced through. I thoroughly enjoyed Greenwich Park, and I was excited to read this one - The Others Mothers definitely exceeded expectations. This book will keep you guessing until the end.
Following on from her confident debut novel, Katherine Faulkner's 'The Other Mothers' sees a return to the world of everyday life overshadowed by secrets from the past. The mysterious drowning of a nanny prompts Tash, to investigate, but she soon finds herself in a complex web with a group of mothers who may have been involved. She is desperate to fit in, yet set on proving herself.
The book isn't quite so compelling as 'Greenwich Park'; it has intrigue and thrills which don't land as well. That being said, the central character of Tash is an interesting one. She is a young mum awkwardly navigating the difficult waters of motherhood while trying to understand who she is and connect with the people around her. I enjoyed following her around as she investigated the case to its satisfying close.
I've read other books by Katherine and this was just as good.
Toxic female relationships - where will it all go wrong?
Well written and a very good thriller, fast paced too and an easy read.
I loved it.
Toxic female friendships. What could possibly go wrong in this book?
Very interesting and a good thriller. I found it quite fast paced and an easy thriller read.
Thanks NetGalley, the author and publisher for allowing me access to this arc.
This book booked told from multiple perspectives and timelines which added suspense. Lots of red herrings twists and turns that will keep you forever guessing. A story that looks at motherhood and toxic female friendships .
Sometimes I find domestic thrillers can be a little samey but this one was unique and super gripping. I liked the way the plot developed and the way it came together but you couldn’t quite put your finger on who could be trusted and who couldn’t. I liked the relatability of the plot and characters but the way it kept me guessing was incredible! Katherine is beginning to become an auto buy author for me for sure!
I've read both books written by Katherine Faulkner so far and I have very much enjoyed them. 'The Other Mothers' is an entertaining thriller in which Tash, an investigative journalist, is trying to find out what happened to Sophie, a nanny who had found her untimely demise a couple of years previously. At the same time, Tash is navigating motherhood and marriage challenges, while trying to forge new relationships in her new mummy circle.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest and impartial review.
I’d read Greenwich Park and when this became available it wasn’t a hard decision to request it.
Tash, a new mum is looking to relaunch her journalist career, she starts looking into the death of a local nanny, where although the death is judged as accidental, Tash wonders if there is more to it. It turns out that one her sons friend at nursery was the child the nanny looked after. Tash works her way into the friend group, mainly as she wants to find out more, but also she has few friends, but are these other Mums the type of people she should want as friends.
Tash soon gets some clear messages to stop digging.
This is a fascinating story and really keeps you guessing as to what the reality actually is, because the obvious is too obvious right? Are the breadcrumbs, breadcrumbs or just a red herring? Lot’s of twists as you go keep you completely enthralled.
Another strong story from this author. I give this 4.5/5 rounded up to 5.

This is a book told from the perspective of Tash and Sophie. It flows perfectly and the transition between each is effortless.
This is well written, addictive and one of those books you cannot put down once you start it. Faulkner is definitely up there on the must read author list.
The atmosphere in this is tense and occasionally claustrophobic. I adored this book from beginning to end. Most of the characters in this are easy to dislike. I found the setting glamorous and giving me desperate housewives vibes.
I love how Faulkner pulls you in then deepens the mystery. This is a dark read and completely compelling. I was so excited about this one and it has delivered on every level.
This is a brilliant read, a definite for the TBR. I cannot wait to see what Faulkner has in store for us next.

"The Other Mothers" by Katherine Faulkner is a gripping thriller that delves into the dark secrets of motherhood. The story is a suspenseful exploration of obsession, lies, and the blurred lines between reality and paranoia. Faulkner's storytelling is taut, keeping readers guessing until the final shocking reveal. A compelling and chilling tale that leaves you questioning the boundaries of maternal love.
Dark, totally addictive and twisty. Kept me reading late at night. Moral of the story? Never trust a mum who appears to have her sh1t together.... A really enjoyable book, guaranteed to get you out of a reading slump⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fast paced, tense and dark this book had me hooked. It was so twisty and kept me guessing all the way through
Another great book from this author. I loved her last one and this one was fast-paced and tense. A real page Turner. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
This book has a very similar feel to Katherine’s previous novel “Greenwich Park” which I enjoyed very much.
This story is again set in London and centres on a group of young mothers and the attempt by Tash to fit in. At the same time Tash, who is trying to make it as a freelance journalist is investigating what she sees as the mysterious death of a young woman, a death written off by the police as an accident. It’s not long before it becomes apparent that there is a link between the dead woman and the group of mothers that Tash is trying to befriend.
Full of twists until the end, once again a very enjoyable read.
