If you enjoyed Katherine Faulkners previous book, Greenwich Park, then you will love this one!
For me this started off as a pretty slow burner, but now after finishing the book I can see it was building up the characters, their personalities and friendships so she could lead us all down the path of each woman, to then to turn it all on its head!
Every mum can relate to Tash’s trials as a new mum, especially the early days of playgroups when your child refuses to let you leave. And there always seems to be a little clique of mothers who seem to find newly found parenthood a breeze.
Tash envies that group of mums and their endless play dates, posh coffees, lavish brunches and their friendships and would love to be included in their little clique.
But beware what you wish for because as with a lot of things in life, nothing is quite as it seems.
The story flicks between Tash and Sophie, the previous live in nanny for Claire, one of the other mothers, and Sophie’s chapters are all told under the headings of how many months, weeks, days and even hours and minutes before her death.
Sophie died whilst wild swimming in the local wetlands months before Tash becomes part of the mothers group and the topic of Sophie is not up for discussion within the group.
What Tash fails to tell the other mothers is that now she has become a freelance journalist she has been digging into Sophie’s death.
As all their lives become more entangled, old and new secrets and lies start to rise to the surface, alongside plot twist after plot twist, all leading to an ending that’s as shocking as it is unexpected!

Tash is struggling with her new roles, as mother to a small son, and as a freelance writer after being an investigative journalist. When she is drawn into a group of yummy mummies at her son’s new playgroup, she tries to fit in with their lifestyle- beautiful houses, designer clothes, expensive lunches and spa days- despite her own financial restrictions. She also begins to follow a possible story, about a young woman found drowned nearby, supposedly in an accident- but the evidence doesn’t add up, and her new friends seem to know more than they want to say. Tash determines to uncover their secrets- but at what cost? An often intriguing mystery that will keep you guessing, this novel really captures the contradictions of wanting a career but also to be a good mother, the seductiveness of life cushioned by money and the appeal of being part of “the in crowd.” I felt that some parts of the story could have been developed a bit better, such as the issues surrounding little Jude, and the various infidelities got a bit too convoluted, but overall an enjoyable read.

I didn't expect the amount of twist an turnsi loved Katherine previous book so I kind of had an idea but this blew it out of the park allways questions who can you trust a mother right? Of all people you think you could when push comes to shove how far would you go to impress the play group mum's to fit in

Keenly Observed..
Has Tash, a former journalist, at long last discovered the story that will propel her career back into the limelight? Perhaps so. She’s certainly been seeking new friendships - amongst seemingly successful other mothers at her son’s playgroup. She wants to be like them. When she’s invited into that circle, discoveries are made and secrets are kept.. but at what cost? What is certain, is that nobody can be trusted. With a simmering sense of underlying menace, a slow ramp of tension, a deftly crafted cast and a keenly observed narrative comes a suspenseful tale which is completely compelling and wholly unsettling.

I loved the authors first book and was really pleased to be offered this copy via NetGalley. Good book. Well written and I thought I’d add this author to my favourite so if they wrote anything else I would get it. So I would definitely recommend.

This was an interesting read, a bit predictable and the characters were a little dry but I enjoyed it all the same.

I thoroughly enjoyed Greenwich Park and had just as much fun with this gripping read. This is really classy psychological suspense with a great plot and a delicious cast of characters. It would make a superb tv series too.

4-5 stars
Tash James, mother to Finn, and wife of A and E doctor Tom, is desperate to relaunch her journalist career, partly because they’re broke. Has she potentially found something in the story of nanny Sophie Blake, whose death doesn’t entirely add up, although it is deemed an accident by the coroner. She is also keen to make new friends as she navigates the uncertain waters of new motherhood. Has she found friendship in Laura, Clare and Nicole, who she meets at Finns playgroup? The story unfolds via the narratives of Tash and Sophie, which works very well with the two melding perfectly together.
I really enjoyed the author’s first book ‘Greenwich Park’ so eagerly anticipate this one! It’s one of those novels that you resent real life intruding on your reading experience and I put it down with deep reluctance! It’s a very well written, addictive novel with a constantly changing plot, with your suspicion antenna twitching hither and thither. At times, the atmosphere is uneasy or claustrophobic, scary and fear inducing, at others, it’s a bit sinister and there’s tension you could cut with a knife. Katherine Faulkner builds layer upon layer in the storytelling so running alongside the Sophie story and investigation is the theme of motherhood and the hard work of the early years. The mothers that Tasha meets are something else, I definitely advise giving a them a wide berth to but she’s so desperate to fit in she joins in. Their world is glamorous and wealthy and in that respect, she is not in their league. Most of them are pretty awful characters, and although you admire Tasha‘s resilience, you want her to stop digging as the unease builds. The mystery deepens, the plot thickens and some of the dynamics contained within makes you want to hide in a corner and curl in a ball. We witness conspiracy, control and much much more. It escalates, twists, and builds to a dramatic ending, and what price the truth?
Overall, another dark and compelling, slow burner, psychological thriller from a very talented author.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Bloomsbury Publishing PLC for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Easily a 5* read for me - this was a psychological fiction novel that I really struggled to put down! I looked forward to reading it, and was never disappointed when I did!
Freelance journalist, Tash, finds herself in a tricky situation that many mums can easily relate to - young son Fin, struggles to separate from her at nursery. Tash finds a solution when a group of yummy-mummies offer playdates. This results in Tash finding herself in a precarious financial situation as she tries to keep up with brunches, and spa days with her new friends. To finance this drain on her bank account she tries to take on additional work, and senses a story in the unexplained death of a young nanny months previously. It quickly becomes clear that all is not as it seems with this close knit group of friends, and Tash makes an unexpected discovery that really throws the cat amongst the pigeons. I won't say more as this is a book that needs no spoilers. Just read and enjoy!!
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

3.5 stars
These books about horrible parents are pretty good.
The little groups they form, the way they look down on others, the sheer toxicity of it all.
I liked it a lot.
What I didnt like, was a single character, and that's fine, it stopped me feeling sorry for any of them.
Kept me guessing right to the end, despite the fact in my head I'd solved it half way through.
Very entertaining read.

If you liked Greenwich Park and nosing into other people’s supposed domestic bliss, you’ll love The Other Mothers ‘cause it’s more of the same (in a good way!). Slick, compelling writing and awful characters. Just my kind of book.

Loved loved loved! This was such an amazing book and had me absolutely captivated all day. I loved the characters, they're well written and well rounded. The story had so many twists and turns, I had no idea where the story was going to end up and loved every second of the journey to find out. There is so much tension and suspicion built up, I raced through this trying to get the answers. It's cleverly written and worlds away from the other "evil school mums" type books. This is the perfect summer read to get lost in by the pool

Tash, a struggling journalist with a young son, is asked by the mother of a local nanny to investigate her suspicious death while also befriending a group of sophisticated mums at her sons playgroup. We quickly see Tash getting drawn in to both of these situations and what follows is a clever, twisty thriller.
I enjoyed the overall story and didn’t know who to trust. I second guessed a lot of the characters and was never sure where it was going, which for me is a great thriller. I did find that sometimes there was quite a lot happening at once and that is was slightly drawn out but overall it is definitely a book I will recommend to others. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my early copy.

This is the type of yummy mummy group you definitely do not want to belong to! Some sinister secrets come to light when a young woman joins an upscale society of mothers. Highly recommend this book!

I absolutely loved the author's debut Greenwich Park so was thrilled to have the opportunity to read The Other Mothers. Tash, a freelance journalist with a young son Finn, begins to investigate the death of Sophie, a local nanny. When Tash is drawn into a new friendship group at Finn's playgroup she begins to wonder how much the other mothers know about Sophie and her disappearance.
This is another well written and plotted novel and a gripping and compelling read. Tash is a likeable and believable character and the other characters are all well drawn. The author portrays the world of the London yummy mummy well and this is an enjoyable domestic thriller. There are lots of twists and turns to the plot and it's difficult to trust any of the characters. The only weakness is that I feel it all became a bit rushed towards the end. A recommended read.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
Tash is married to Tom, and they have a little boy called Finn. Tash was a journalist on a newspaper but has branched out as freelance, which isn’t doing as well as she’d hoped. Then Tash is approached by a woman called Jane, who had a daughter called Sophie. Sophie was a nanny but died in a drowning. Sophie’s mum is sure it is more sinister and has asked Tash to help figure out exactly what happened. While she starts investigating she is also drawn in to a group of mums from her sons playgroup. These mums are glamorous and Tash is desperate to fit in, but sometimes the lines get blurred.
This was a really cleverly written and enthralling story. The characters were well written and were interesting and mysterious. They also came across as the typical mum groups you find in every playground. I also enjoyed the author including how hard motherhood is, especially in those early days. The story was engaging and a real page turner. Highly recommended!!

The Other Mothers is a well written and clever story.

This was a fantastic read I hadn’t read the authors first book but heard great things about it. So after how great this was I am going to read it straight away.
Tash is freelance Journalist and mother of a young son Finn. She is struggling to settle Finn into playgroup and also her freelance carers is not going well at all. When Tash is trying to settle Finn into playground one morning she meets Laura who invites Tash into her friendship group with their glamorous lifestyle how can Tash resist. Tash is also working on a story about a young girls death trying to find out what really happened. But finds out the truth may be a lot closer to home than she soon realised.
The other mothers was a great thriller which had you guessing until the very end. There was so many suspects you didn’t know who to trust. Definitely recommend this book.

I loved Greenwich Park, and have been anxiously awaiting Katherine's follow up! The Other Mothers did not disappoint - another cast of fabulously unlikeable characters and excellent twists. This is domestic suspense at its finest!
