This is another fantastic read by Katherine Faulkner. I loved her previous book, and this new one certainly didn’t disappoint.
It’s a great domestic thriller with lots of intriguing and highly unlikeable characters. It drew me in quickly and the ending was clever.
I really like this author and will be looking out for her future releases.
The author's first book, Greenwich Park, was great, and The Other Mothers is also a really enjoyable read.
Journalist and mother of a young child, Natasha (Tash) is struggling a bit - she's lost her staff job on a paper and freelancing isn't going particularly well. When she's approached by the mother of Sophie, a young nanny recently found drowned, with a request to look into her death, Tash has reservations, but quickly finds herself drawn into the case.
Meanwhile, she's also getting drawn into the glamorous orbit of three playgroup mothers, Laura, Claire and Nicole. The new friendships add a bit of excitement to life, even if Tash can't really keep up with their expensive lifestyle.
But what's the connection, if any, between them and Sophie? Why do people keep warning her off digging? And is there any chance Tash's husband could somehow be involved?
The Other Mothers is well written and plotted, and strong on the stresses and strains of early motherhood. Recommended.
Many thanks for the opportunity to read an advance copy and provide an honest review.
I was a big fan of Faulkner’s previous book and this was set to be a similar win.
Tash, a journalist gets involved in a case in her local area, and while delving she finds people from her son’s playgroup are desperate to be friends with her.
The mystery in this book is good, clever and very well written but I cannot express my disappointment of the story suddenly having many more parts and ending in the last 2 pages. A complete about face for the character and it ruined the book.
This is not a book about an unreliable narrator but in the last pages a couple of events are forced in that feel like the author just pushed them in for no reason.
I enjoyed this, kept you guessing until the very end and very well written, I am hoping I don’t have to wait too long until another book comes out
An unexpected gripping tale. Characters that you can’t trust, a difficult ending, all in all a book worth spending time on
