Embark on a fantastical journey with the mysterious disappearance of Ms. Lily, the bird lady, who is now adorned with strange bird-like creatures nesting in her hair. This fantasy tale will take you through strange and exciting events and locations as you unfold the bizarre story.
The cover gives a very different appearance and tone to what the actual story is. I went into this story expecting a quirky, silky tale of Miss Lily and her hair nest of birds. Instead, this became a dark tale dealing with death, lost ones and ends on a tragic note in my opinion. There just isn't enough quirkiness or happiness to overplay the darker themes. The pacing is off and the story overly wordy and overly detailed while not character driven enough. The very few illustrations are odd choices for the story.
Overall, A very odd, disturbing tale

What a fun and quirky little book!
I love the cover - this is what attracted me at first as it's bright and colourful and the illustrations looked fun.
The storyline starts with Ms Lily who hosts a fine number of birds in her 'birds nest' hair - a nice little pun....and a pteradactyl which she named after her husband Herbert.
We learn about the odd little village where Ms Lily lives and we head back in time to revisit what happened to her husband......Here the story takes a very odd twist.
I loved the writing style which was full of humour suited for the 9-12 (middle grade) age group - lots happening for them to chuckle at and also find a little creepy (but not scary!)
A lovely little quick read - great for break time, library time or a quick read before bed!
