Just like her other books, this book is a treat to look at. Rothman once again created a whimsical and pleasing book that takes the reader on a journey through the world to learn about wild animals. My children enjoyed the book, but I did too! We learned a lot and enjoyed looking at the new animals as well as learning facts about our favorite animals.
Wildlife Anatomy is another fantastic addition to the Anatomy series by Julia Rothman. This is the perfect companion for homeschoolers or children wanting to learn more about animals. With stunning illustrations and interesting facts and educational points, this book will be one to go back to often.
Wow, this is a book that conqueers the reader from the very first pages.
The title is a bit misleading, there is minimal anatomy in the strict sense of the word, in fact it is about the external characteristics of the various species, mostly mammals. On the other hand it is perfect for children, the text is short but very informative and the drawings are delightful .This book is a perfect accompanion for a visit in the zoo. It is very entertaining while containing a lot of information. I appreciated also the description of the various habitats and the behaviour of the animals. and the notes about the endangered species like the lions.
I liked the font type and the layout too.
Absolutely recommended.
Review to come April (close to the release day) on blog/goodreads/etc..
I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I just couldn't resist this super-pretty book! Plus, it is about a topic I just adore, animals! Nature! So I was eager to get reading!
In this GORGEOUSLY illustrated book we learn all about nature and animals. From various habitats to animal families to animals themselves. We also learn about Food Webs and invasive, non-native species and the damage they do and there is so so much more. This book is PACKED with information. For real! It's been a while since I had a book like this. I was really surprised and delighted. I had expected it to just focus on a certain theme, but no, everything. From animals in cold regions to hot regions. From close-by to very far away. Anatomy of various animals. Even going deeper in some topics, like I loved the part about teeth and claws. Or the one about all the big kitties! And I loved that it showed so many animals, not just the known ones like bears and tigers, but also Lappet-faced Vultures, Bakharan Markhors, Sitatungas. This made me smile~ It was just a feast to read and I was eagerly flipping to the next page to see what we would get next!
Sorry, but I laughed so much when we got to the part about Wild Asses. My head immediately forgot it was about animals. :P
Most of the information was not new to me, but I did learn quite a few new things as well and I love that. I love it when a book like this, about nature a topic that I really love and try to read quite a bit about, can still surprise me!
I love the introduction to the book, see what inspired the author and also learn of various people who are working hard to help animals, study them, research, etc. And I also am happy to hear that if you buy the book some of the money will go to a good cause!
And BOY the illustrations are just such a delight! Such a pretty style.
The only thing that got in the way for my reading was that the font was often VERY blurry, sometimes I really had to get my glasses on so I could read. I do hope that in the official release this will be fixed.
I think this book will be perfect in any classroom, but also any bookshelf for nature lovers! I would recommend it and yes, yes, I will be buying it when it comes out~
This is an incredible book that is truly perfect for any and every age. The illustrations are gorgeous with simple vivid details and bright colors that make every image stand out. "Wildlife Anatomy" is truly unique with a fountain of tidbits, information, and trivia that includes everything from environments to claws to vertebrates. This is perfect for children and students learning about animals, along with what makes a predator and prey, the food web, and types of eaters. From what they eat to the basic anatomy of those such as the giraffe and flamingo, the information is set against stunning illustrations that you'll instantly fall in love with. I haven't seen a book like this before and highly recommend it!
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Excellent book about animals. There is just so much detail, and so much your eyes are drawn to.
Julia Rothman is a staple in our homeschool library! The book is not only full of so much information, it is so gorgeous! I can not wait to purchase a hard copy to add to our collection! Absolutely perfect new addition!
Thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the opportunity to get an advanced e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am so excited for this book to come out! All her other books are staples in my house. That way nature and wildlife are brought to life so beautifully is amazing. I learned so much with out feeling overwhelmed. My kids wanted to go more in depth about so many of the different animals. The art work was amazing! I can't wait to havey physical copy to read with my kids.
A beautiful book for both children and adults alike, the illustrations are absolutely stunning and really draw you in to make you read the facts, I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in wildlife
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a beautiful book!
It's broken down by animals with similar animals and locations grouped together. The book includes colorful drawings with information about the animals from around the world. This is a fun way to learn how to differentiate African from Asian elephants, what the panther family includes, and the different kinds of bison in the world. It's an informative read!
Julia Rothman’s Wildlife Anatomy is a beautiful book. It’s going to be one that’s equally at home on the coffee table or in the family bookshelf to refer back to for years to come.
In terms of family, I’d say it’s accessible to everyone though will be appreciated by children from around 7 or 8 years up. Despite this, younger children will enjoy looking at the gorgeous pictures and being read to some of the simpler facts. I’m a parent myself with a lifelong interest in nature and there was still so much for me to learn about and interest me here, so I think the author has really nailed it in terms of producing a wildlife book that really can appeal to all ages.
A lot of thought and care has gone into making the book flow really nicely between the various themes and picking interesting categories. The illustrations really are fantastic, too. The same care has gone into fact-checking (just one small error in which the Tiger shark bio has a picture of a Sand Tiger Shark – similar name, different shark.) There was so much I learnt about animals I thought I knew a lot about already and fascinating related species. Rothman is adept at showing what a diverse range of wildlife there is and how unique some of these amazing animals are.

Something important this book achieves is highlighting the need for the conservation of these animals and the sheer wonder we are lucky enough to have in our natural world, a wonder that needs to be cherished and protected. The author successfully does this without ever being preachy – she lets the interesting facts and wholesome feel of this book do that by itself.
This book is such a lovely read I would go as far as to suggest it could ignite a love of nature with the discovery and amazement you can find within its pages, or remind someone who already feels that way of why exactly they love wildlife and nature so much. Most people regardless of prior knowledge will also find things to learn and be amazed at all over again.
This would make a perfect gift or a little treat to yourself.
Thankyou to the author and published for allowing me to read this book on Netgalley in return for my honest review.
Julia Rothman has., once again, hit it out of the park. We own several of her other titles so imagine my joy and excitement to see that she had written a wildlife book! The facts and illustrations in this book is spot on and you can tell the research necessary has been done to give us a book that is full of amazing information. Perfect for animal lovers everywhere, especially homeschoolers or those who love learning. Rothman continues to please and educate us with each of her titles and I cannot wait to see what she puts out next.
Supports a great cause of organizations the author thinks are working really hard to protect wildlife. I love this aspect so much!!!
Really breaks down in a visual way different aspects of animals: ecosystems, teeth and claws, herds, anatomy, eating/food chain, social networks, grooming, building homes, and my favorite category, weird & wonderful.
I learned more than I thought I would to be honest. This is very educational but still fun and beautiful.
I received an e-ARC for this book, and I’m immediately adding the book to my Amazon Wishlist. This book is perfect for your little nature lovers. It includes so many different facts for many different animals. It’s great information, but not too much so that your child would get bored. It’s beautifully written. Great illustrations.
This book is STUNNING. Not only visually but in the broad content it covers. At the beginning, it sheds light on not only some really important research, but also some really important people too before going into some fab animal and wildlife profiles.
I will be buying this book as a physical copy as the ebook as a standalone is fab, but it’s a book your shelf also needs and in purchasing you are supporting the cause to help in further research. Which I am all for!
This topic is a close one for my own heart as a scientist and books like these just make my heart sing. To read more about the ground breaking and awe inspiring research that’s being undertaken is such a worthwhile endeavour and especially for children too. It’s written expertly and for everyone. I loved it. The animal and anatomy facts were super fun to read and I learnt a load about animals I didn’t even know existed!
Honestly this book was just a delight from start to finish. This isn’t just a book for a younger audience but is an amazing book for parents and definitely not young children (like me) to enjoy too. There was so much covered as well in its content. So much to learn and shared in such a beautiful way.
It’s a feast for the eyes, mind and soul and it’s a solid recommend for anyone and everyone.
