What a freaking ride. Chasm was all about the setup for the finale as we get more into the hows and whys of the separation of these peoples. The backstories we get blew me away at times and the action was fantastic. This one also broke my heart a bit as we wrapped up this middle novel of the Glacian trilogy.
The audio was great, just like the first. I think the only reason I have it as four stars is it's a dual plus POV with only one narrator... I would have really loved someone to join Hannah Genesius as Ryon, especially with it being 3rd person POV, it would have made it easier to keep track of who's POV we were listening too.
I'm a little sad we didn't get like any spice... If there was a kiss even, I was distracted during the audio and missed it. I still gave it 0.5 chilis though because it was a little romantic with some big revelations, especially from Dawsyn.
I really loved how much I have begun to hate the queens (as if I didn't at the end of Ledge...) and some other people I shall not name due to spoilers. Stacey wrote these villains beautifully and I can't wait to watch their downfall. I'm also really loving watching the mages and others work with Ryon and Dawsyn and can't wait to see how they come together to free their people. Bring on book three asap, I don't think I can handle the wait...

Of the two Ledge books, I have to admit that I liked Ledge better, in a technical sense. There's nothing wrong with Chasm - but it does suffer a bit from Second Book Syndrome. The storyline was a lot slower than Ledge, and kind of meandered at some points.
As a general recommendation: I did read an ARC, so it's possible the final published version was edited better, but there were several technical mistakes a line editor should've caught, so I would recommend a more thorough editing for book 3. There were a few clumsy sentences, as well, like this one: "She awoke to warm stones between the layers of her chest and stomach." I know the author means between the layers of FABRIC, but the "layers of her chest and stomach" could also sound like someone put rocks inside her body which seems pretty uncomfortable. There's some fancy word play like "Shuts her lids" instead of "shuts her eyes" that I could've done without.
Despite those complaints, though, I actually found myself enjoying Chasm more than Ledge. There was something breathless about the book that kept me reading the whole time. I was horrified for the people of the ledge, for the people of Terrsaw. The side characters really come alive in this book, with the enchanting Baltisse, the ever-guilty Ruby, the funny duo Salem and Ersa, the sweet Hector. You find yourself rooting for all of them, even when it hurts. And the truth is, Stacey McEwan, despite the few flaws I find in her stories, writes a world you get lost in.
Stacey McEwan has done it again with the second instalment in the Glacian Trilogy!
I had high hopes for this book and it did not disappoint. Once again we were thrown into action and adventure with no guesses of how it would end or begin! I did guess the first major twist (which I'm going to give no spoilers for) but the general direction of the book was a bit of a surprise for me.
Once again the characters were well thought-out and it was great to see the next step in their adventure. They all went through a lot before the end of the book!
I can't wait for the final instalment in this amazing series!
I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Book 2 in the Glacian Trilogy primarily follows Dawsyn's journey on coming to terms with her past, the lies, betrayal, and the path forward. After living every day of her life in survival mode, she is forced to face long buried emotions and trauma. We also get to learn much more about the history of the Glacian's - which had some shocking revelations. I wished things between Dawsyn and Ryon would have been mended sooner as I really did miss their banter from book 1, hopefully we will get more of that in the next book. The ending was a perfect setup for book 3 (thankfully not a cliffhanger), I'm eager to see what creatures they will face and what they will discover at the end of the path.
Overall I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC!
I was really enjoying this book but unfortunately was unable to finish before the access expired. I look forward to getting my published copy on release!

Book two in this trilogy picks up right where we fell off a cliff in book one. I love when authors do that, throw you right back in the action without any passing of time. We’re in the thick of the deception and twist, and following FMC Dawsyn as she sets out on a new path to find escape and liberation for her people.
I enjoyed that we were reunited with the lovable side characters we met in book one, and there was more time with Baltisse and the witches this time around. This book had more of a focus on magic, learning how to use it, and the history of the world. How did Glacia come to be, who and why did certain events unfold, and plotting to overthrow and liberate.
This one was a bit more slow on the action side, but I felt just as invested in the story and characters. I can’t really say much more in this review, as I want to keep it spoiler free so that’s all I have to say about this…
Read if you enjoy…

Thank you to Angry Robot, NetGalley, and the author for this eArc.
I was really happy to find this book picks up right where Ledge's cliffhanger left off.
I found Chasm to suffer a little from middle book syndrome where not much happens for a large portion of the book as the series tries to make it over to the finale. Ledge was a more enjoyable read with lots of action and, my favorite trope, running-and-camping. I really could've done without the whole "Yer a wizard Harry" bit in this book. I felt lukewarm about the magic at first then when we find out that, oh no, it's going to kill Dawsyn, I was immediately put off. I found the mage thing added nothing other than try to further Dawsyn's not-like-the-other-girls character arc.
All that being said, Chasm was not a bad read. My personal preferences just happen to lean more towards high octane and fast pace. We get a lot more time with some beloved characters from book 1. Dawsyn goes through some character development. She even makes some friends.
Thank you NetGalley and Angry Robot Publishing for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Chasm by Stacey McEwan is the second book in The Glacian Trilogy. The story starts right where the first book left off. Dawsyn is at a low point dealing with grief, anger, and guilt as she faces new challenges.
This book is more character-driven and slower-paced. The character growth was my favorite thing about this book. Even with the focus of the book being on character and relationship development, there were still twists and revels throughout the book.
Dawsyn continues to pursue her goal of saving the people she left behind along with protecting the family she has found. We get to see a new side of Dawsyn we didn’t get to see when she was solely focused on survival.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and Angry Robots for the eArc. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.
Holy buckets. There is no sophomore/mid trilogy slump here. Chasm picks up as soon as Ledge leaves off and doesn't stop until the last page. It's action packed and filled with so much anticipation and longing. New characters and old steal our hearts. Adventures get more exciting with each page. I am loving this series and am so sad that I have to wait for the third book!
If I have been recommending fantasy to you, add this to your list. BUT if you are a wait until the series is complete reader - wait. The cliffhangers are real. (really amazing.)
The writing and plot is excellent. The only reason I’m giving it four stars instead of five is because I have a hard time relating to the characters so it takes me a little while to get into the story.
My absolute favorite characters are Ryon and Baltisse! I was so happy to get to see more of Baltisse in this book.
The ending?! I’m still upset by it and the freaking cliffhanger! I hate that I have to wait a whole year to find out what happens next.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an arc to review!
This is one of my most anticipated reads of 2023 after being gifted Ledge last year and LOVING it. The Glacian Trilogy is nothing short of fantastic. Chasm picks up where we left off at the end of Ledge, not missing a single beat. The cliff hanger we were left with in the last book was devastating, and to see what happened was a relief. One thing that I noted in my review of Ledge was how much I loved our side characters Baltisse, Esra, and Salem. And in this book, we get even more of them and some new side characters that add so much humor to the group.
A large majority of this book consists of Dawsyn learning how to wield her magic, and learning about it in general. We see a lot more Baltisse in this book and it was nothing short of wonderful. She is one of my favorite side characters that I have read about, she has such dry humor and it's a great addition to the group of lively characters like Salem and Esra.
There were a few moments in the book where I feel we were sitting and waiting for something to happen in the plot, and each moment we were gifted with something that was worth the wait. There was a lot of action, acts of betrayal, and so many sad, devastating moments throughout this book that will rip your heart out.
And then we reach the end of Chasm, and you think things will be okay. Then your heart gets ripped out of your chest and you are left with a devastating cliff hanger. I love this trilogy and I will be hanging on by a thread waiting for the third book to release.
Thank you NetGalley, Stacey McEwan and Angry Robot for the arc of Chasm in exchange for an honest review. Releasing September 12th!
Thank you to NetGalley and Angry Robot for providing the ARC.
While my feelings regarding the first book were relatively lukewarm, the book ended on a massive cliffhanger that really drove my need to read the second one. And this story is just about the same as the first one. I didn't really gravitate to any particular character, I thought they were pretty flat and I had a hard time getting into the story. That may be because I didn't enjoy the first book all that much, so reading the second seemed a bit of a slog.
I doubt I will pick up the third, but I can see where someone else would enjoy this.
While the begining of Chasm has a bit of action but unfortunately that didn't last long. I didn't feel like much happened in this book and the characters and plot felt...aimless.
The conflict between Ryon and Dawsyn felt unnecessarily drawn out. And it's resolution wasn't all that satisfying.
My favorite characters are the side characters and I wish they got more time on the page.
Thanks to Netgalley and Angry Robot for providing me with a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Usually the middle books of series can feel a bit slow, but somehow this was still PACKED with action and excitement. I love every character in this found family, and the unique setting. I already can’t wait for the third instalment! Brilliant work from Stacey once again 😊
Chasm is the second book in the Glacian trilogy, the follow up to Ledge. I quite liked Ledge but Chasm just veered off on its own unique little journey and I loved it!
This sequel starts exactly where we left book 1 and the cliff hanger ending as Dawsyn faces the repercussions of the Queens actions. We get to see a lot more of the MC in this book and I found I warmed to her more once I learnt more of her life on the Ledge and how it shaped her into the person she became. There's a running theme of found family in this book, which is a trope I'm starting to realise I really enjoy. The plot was generally paced well and this book didn't suffer too badly from second book syndrome. As I mention earlier, this book follows its own path. I thought I was getting into another generic fantasy romance trilogy, but McEwan has managed to give us loads of twists and curve balls to keep us second guessing throughout. The romance side becomes a smaller secondary plot in this one.
A solid read that has me really excited to read the finale and see how Dawsyn manages to overcome the many obstacles she still faces. This book feels so different to the others in the genre and I loved McEwan's style of writing.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publishers for providing an arc in return for an honest review.
"Why do I get the impression you three are off to burn bridges and torch castles?"
I follow Stacey on Instagram and absolutely adore her series of "Off to make my husband a fictional man" videos! I was SO excited to receive a copy of Chasm and have been waiting to read it since the cliffhanger that was Ledge. Thank you so much to NetGalley, Angry Robot, and Stacey McEwan for an eARC of Chasm!
This book starts off dark. Dawsyn is in a prison trying to process her emotions from the final events of the previous book and her looming execution. She is starved, dirty, and utterly hopeless. With some help, she is able to escape and begin her quest to save the others on the Ledge.
There is so much that happens in this book and it is hard to do a summary without giving too much away so I will cover a few story elements.
Pacing: I really enjoyed the flow of this book. I feel like it started off a little slow, but it picked up after Dawsyn left the castle. From there it was a steady stream of angsty character development and action scenes. It was overall a really good mix.
Characters/Character Development: We get a few more fun side characters in this book and meet some others again. Who didn't love the banter between Baltisse, Salem, and Esra in the last book? I had many laugh out loud moments with them, but we also see some touching scenes too. Dawsyn slowly begins to recognize her "found family" and while she may not admit she loves them, her fondness is apparent.
Writing Style: I really enjoy the consistency of Stacey's writing. Sometimes authors slip into between a more modern style of writing while trying to be witty. Stacey stays consistent in her writing style even when her characters are frustrated or bantering back and forth. It is all done in an old-ish(?) english style.
One thing I didn't love about the book - I feel like Dawysn felt sorry/angry with herself and others for way too long. She was so moody throughout the book that I wanted to push her off the ledge. Now - this totally could have been a plot element (the lightness of one magic fighting against the darkness of the iskra with the darkness winning out), but it didn't seem to be. I understand she was battling her own demons and trying to figure out her emotions but I just wish that she had figured it out a little sooner in the book.
Also - Stacey McEwan really knows how to build up your side character love and just TEAR IT DOWN.
In the end, I really did enjoy this book and I am excited for the next installment. There is still so much left unanswered and so many people whose story I want to hear. I'll give this 3.5 stars rounded up.
I spend way too long reading this book but I just could't wait till I could talk about it!
Chasm is very difficult to review without giving anything away so I'll keep it very short and very mysterious.
We find Dawsyn having to go though a lot in this book. A lot of emotions, a lot of growth and a lot of pain. I love her character so much, she is a true baddie.
The Secondary characters are so entertaining and truly add to the plot of the trilogy.
I loved the ending! I saw a few reviews that were shocked, but I am really content and really looking forward to the next book!
Thank the stars that Chasm picks up where Ledge left off. I was sick over that cliffhanger. And thank the stars that Chasm is just as excellent as Ledge was.
The start here was surprisingly a bit slower, but it picked up quickly enough and had the twists and turns that the first delivered so well. This book was also more friendship oriented than it was romance oriented, which while I would have appreciated some more spice, it felt really fitting with the plot of the story and the one thing I dislike more than less spice is gratuitous spice.
Anyway, I cried, I raged, I smiled, and this was an absolutely treat to read. Like. It’s one of those stories where it wasn’t difficult or daunting but it drags you in and makes you feel everything tenfold. And that is what I am here for. But now I have to wait for the third book, which, while I knew was coming, again, I am not ok.
Thank you NetGalley and Angry Robot for the opportunity to read this book early! Wow just wow y’all I have no words. The world is hauntingly beautiful. The story has flowed amazing and the characters have stolen my heart. I loved the character and relationship development in this book with Dawsyn and Ryon. I’m so excited for book 3, and also very scared but that seems to be Stacy’s favorite form of torture.
First and foremost, I would like to state that Dawsyn remains to be one of the most badass main characters EVER. This book was not quite as enjoyable as The Ledge was for me — a lot of information was learned in this novel, but not a lot happened — but the assembly of characters makes up for it. Each character found a way into my heart in one way or another, and the end of the book had me gripped! If I could, I’d really rate it 3.75, but my love for the cast has me by the throat. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!
