This is the second book by Stacey mcewan in the series. I did not enjoy this book either and I so wanted to give it a chance due to all the hype. The books plot has unique elements to it so it did keep me interested. I just can’t get past her style of writing and the lack of detail in characters appearances and lack of world building.

I love Stacey’s writing, however, this book lost the momentum that Ledge had for me. But Stacey has created a wonderful unique world for her characters to reside in, and I look forward to the final book in this trilogy!
Characters: 3 /5
Unfortunately, the characters were not the strong point for me. I did really love seeing the relationships between characters, but some of the side characters fell a bit flat. Salem and Ezra's humorous parts were some of my favorites. Stacey McEwan did a great job building up unlikable antagonists.
Story/Plot: 4/5
Picking up right at the end of the first book, this books plot hooked me right back in. I enjoyed the plot in this book more than the first. I won’t go into detail since this is the 2nd in a series. The plot was slow to start but really picked up and I flew through the 2nd half. I enjoyed learning more about the magic in this world and Dawsyn’s journey.
Writing: 4 / 5
Stacey McEwan’s writing style is easy and approachable without being too flowery. I enjoyed the multiple POVs and the writing was consistent throughout.
Final Verdict: A great sequel that built upon the first book well. Even though some of the character moments fell flat the plot was captivating and I cannot wait for the 3rd book!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
After the cliffhanger in book 1, this book picks up right where that one left off (thank god). We get to see a lot of dawsyn in this book and see how her character adjusts to her new situation.
I enjoyed the topics of loneliness, lost trust, and betrayal that was discussed in this book. This book was enjoyable, but there were times that it slowed and I was questioning where this was going. Nonetheless, I look forward to book 3!
I was provided an ARC through NetGalley.
Chasm, the 2nd book in the Glacian Trilogy, continues to deliver an outstanding story in a unique world with life and death stakes. It is always difficult to review a book in the middle of a trilogy without inadvertently spoiling anything because it is usually filled with information that gives too much info from book 1 and lays the groundwork for the finale that is book 3. Suffice it to say that the issues presented as a cliffhanger in book 1 get resolved, and the freight train heading for a calamitous ending in the last of the trilogy has rail that has been well-lain. I can't believe we have to wait another year for the conclusion. Worth it!
This book was an awesome sequel. It took me a second to remember the ledge, the queens, and the dead king. Ryon is dead, Dawsyn is alive, but what is next?
Well shoot, Stacey came up with an amazing story. I loved learning so much more about iskra, how the Glacian’s came to be and visiting the inn again. I was soooo excited to find out Ryon was not dead. Dawsyn and Ryon finally both admit they love each other and together they are a powerhouse.
The ending was phenomenal and I cannot wait for the next book to find out how they all travel out of the Chasm. Also, Adrik’s rude as heck self better be dead or else Ryon better get him.
I need to know what’s happening with Ruby and the Queens because I know they will be back. All in all, this book was awesome, and I cannot wait for everyone else to be able to read it.
This is book 2 of the Glacian Trilogy. Book 1 is Ledge, and it is one of my favourite all time books. When I received this ARC approval. I legit happy danced. I had great expectations and I was NOT disappointed.
This book is beautifully written. While the plot is slower than in book 1, I found that allowed for greater character development, and deeper world building without everything being overwhelming. The plot still moved at an enjoyable pace. The legends and fables, the introduction of new characters and the exploration of new areas of the fantasy world kept this book exciting and unpredictable. And the ending!!! So unexpected and amazing. I cannot wait to see how this story ends in book three.
I really loved Ledge and was looking forward to this sequel, but I had several issues that will ultimately keep me from reading the rest of this series.
1. The premise, plot, and romance in the first book kept me hooked enough to overlook the writing style. The present tense and prose take me out of the story.
2. The side characters fall really flat. This is intended to give off found family vibes, but not enough time is spent developing the side characters to the point where they're just sort of there without reason.
3. The plot. For a huge chunk of this book, nothing really happened. The characters sat around in one location and took turns talking to each other. This is also how a lot of the mystery and storyline was revealed - the main character would go talk to someone in the group who would then reveal this important piece of information. It didn't make for a compelling read and I found myself dreading picking this book up.
Overall, this book just didn't hold up to the first one and it's unfortunate because the premise and world have so much potential.
Gotta say this book was better then the first. Also thank you to NetGalley and Angry Robots for this ARC. This book definitely didn’t have a sophomore slump. Even those it’s like a middle book where it’s a lot of build up for the last book things still happened and I never felt bored. It made sense why everything happened and kept me on my toes. I will say we got some new POVs and I don’t know how to feel about that but otherwise I have no complaints.
Stacey McEwan does it again.
"Do not die."
"...I never do."
Stacey had me hooked with Ledge and all her worldbuilding, character-driven narratives, banter, motley crew of side characters, and the enemies-to-lovers romance. And I know that authors sometimes deflate a bit with their sophomore book but that wasn't the case with Chasm. Chasm was JUST AS GOOD as Ledge and continued with the banter, romance, worldbuilding, political intrigue, and character arcs.
I can't wait to see the final installment!!!
After the cliffhanger of Ledge, I couldn’t wait to get into the sequel, Chasm! I can’t say too much about plot since that might give some spoilers, but Chasm picks up with Dawsyn as a prisoner of the queen, and with some help from her friends, she is able to escape into a treacherous journey of magic and strength as she hopes to save those left on the Ledge. This is a slow-burn, action-packed story. I think in some parts the writing felt a little stilted since there is a lot of lore that’s told throughout (and it’s interesting, just a little heavy handed) and it does feel like a lot of time of them just on the road. The world building is light, which is something I don’t mind, and there was some predictability, but the banter is really strong. The connections between these characters feel so genuine and they feel like a found family. The development of magic in the story I thought was really interesting and I loved seeing that play out. I really loved Dawsyn too; she’s full of contradictions and there’s both a strength and a vulnerability to her that’s really endearing. Plus with where the cliffhanger leaves the characters, I can’t wait to see where the adventure-filled story continues too.
Book Review 📚
Chasm by Stacey McEwan - 4.5/5 ⭐
I was given Chasm as an ARC but didn't realise it was a sequel! So, obviously, I went and purchased Ledge and dived into that first before reading Chasm. I can honestly say, Chasm is equally, if not better, as good as Ledge.
Chasm jumps straight in to where we left off from Ledge (the cliffhanger killed me off btw) and thankfull I didn't have to wait to carry on with the story. But boy was I angry when Chasm then ended on a cliffhanger, because now I do have to wait! Damn you McEwan, damn you!
The characters in Chasm are phenomenal. There is so much more character development, if that's even possible after Ledge. But they are described perfectly with thoughts and feelings being well known as a reader. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know old and new characters alike.
McEwan has such a brilliant way of writing fantasy with romance thrown in! She pulls it off amazingly and I will forever be in awe of how fantastic her descriptions and world building are. I can't wait to read the 3rd and I look forward to even more books from Stacey McEwan!
Thank you to NetGalley and Angry Robot for allowing me to read this ARC - this is an HONEST review from my own personal opinion.
"If you feed that animal inside you with wrath and hate, it will tear everything down before even you are given the chance."
"We are all bad and good, are we not? The fools are the ones who try to separate the two."
"I cannot be where you are not, Dawsyn."
Thrilling, compelling, magical, mysterious and emotional. These are the words I would use to describe this second book in a beautiful fantasy trilogy that, from book one, Ledge, caught my heart and has it in its grasp without any intention of letting it go. After the amazing but also terrible cliffhanger at the end of book one, this time around we start with Dawsyn trying to free herself from the prison of the Queens and Ryon who is not alive anymore. In a game of trusting others again, finding out more about her powers and the mystery of awaking it, loving and be loved without fear, Dawsyn will go through a journey made of saving the people of the Ledge against not one … but two more evils arising. Only what is the only path they can take to save them all? Old friends are back, new friends are coming, and though sacrifices are made to assure that our main characters can deal with their destiny, this book made me incredibly frustrated and angry one page, terribly sad the next and so so happy the other one. I don’t think I can bottle up every feeling and emotion that I went through when I was reading it. The only thing I know is that the author went to the edge of fantasy and beyond to write an amazing slow burn !!!! In an enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers dynamics we will have so fun times going … but fade to black scenes … I have to say I am a bit disappointed on that note !!! But the book was just too incredibly good for me to care !!! Of course the writing style was wonderful and the narrative despite being third person, had still multiple POVs witch I absolutely adored !!!!! I’m so so grateful I had a chance to read this book and I honestly can’t wait to read the next and sadly last instalment of this series !!!
“When he thinks she cannot see, he watches her. But Dawsyn feels his eyes on her every time. It is possessive. It rattles her. She resents it. But she knows if he were to look away, she would hate that more.”
"I found you," he murmurs. "Finally, I found you. And then I failed you."
"Please," he whispers to her, and it is just barely discernible above the beating of her heart. "Find a way not to hate me."
I loved Ledge and was so excited to get an advanced copy of Chasm, I needed to know what happened after that cliffhanger ending! And thankfully Chasm picks up right where Ledge ended, right back into the chaos and devastation. Overall I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see where the next one goes. Dawsyn still has so many challenges and enemies to overcome and I can’t wait to see her take them down. I did feel like this book was a bit slower in the middle though, not a lot of action happened but we did get more insight into the secondary characters. Dawsyn got a little annoying to me also since she spent half the book being angry when I didn’t feel like it was fully justified, and I missed the romance from the first book. But the ending really picked up and the last hundred pages flew by.
Thank you NetGalley and Angry Robot Books for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
The first book, Ledge, was just an okay read for me. I love the authors tiktoks and ideas but the book just didn't hit as hard as I'd hoped. So I was hopeful that second book syndrome would hit and that this would be immensely better. Unfortunately, that is not the case with this book. It was also just okay. It lacked the amount of romance I expect from a romantasy, and the plot just fell flat for me.
2.5/5 ⭐ rounded up to 3 for netgalley.
I jumped at the chance to read and review this. I LOVED the first book, like so dang much. I wish this one had more romance but I won’t be picky! I cannot WAIT for the next book omg.
Chasm is book two of the Glacial trilogy. It starts off right after the cliffhanger of the book Ledge. The book started out a bit slow but as more characters from the first book started showing up, the plot moved right along. Usually not much happens in second books of trilogies but there was plenty of action and revelations in this book to keep me reading.
I really enjoyed having more Baltisse involved as well as Ruby. They and the other side characters make the story so much better than having Dawsyn alone. The romance is not a large part of this book but I didn't miss it because of all the friendships that were developed instead.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher (Angry Robot) for the ARC.
Loved it. Like Ledge, it took me a minute to get in to it, and I was little disappointed in the romance side of things, but the furthering of the story and world is really interesting. I also just think Stacey McEwan is a really cool person.
5⭐️ 1🌶️
Chasm is the 2nd book in the Glacian trilogy by Stacey McEwan.
I adore this series and cannot wait for the final instalment. Dawysn has become one of my favourite bad ass female main characters and is definitely not someone you would ever want to get on the wrong side of! Alongside Ryon becoming one of my favourite book boyfriends.
The ending of this book took hold of me just as much as the ending of Ledge, Stacey leaves you hanging desperate to know what comes next.
In this book we follow Dawysn’s plight to save the people of the Ledge, alongside the betrayal of the Glacians they worked so hard to save.
These series is full of magic, fantastic world building, some of the best side characters and cast, banter, secret powers, angst filled romance and so much more. I was unable to put this book down and Stacey does a fantastic job at pulling you into this world. I need more!
Thank you NetGalley and Angry Robot for the opportunity to read and honestly review Chasm as an eARC
Spoiler free review:
Chasm picks up right where we left Dawsyn at the Queen's castle trying to come to terms with events and information revealed at the end of Ledge.
There was a lot of unfinished business at the end of Ledge and Chasm tries to give us answers to all of it. I like that we learnt more about the supporting characters in this book, especially Baltisse and Salem as well as being introduced to some characters who add perfectly into the group.
Throughout Ledge we see so many twists and turns that you think surely there can't possibly be any more but trust me when I say brace yourself - there is heartbreak, betrayal, disbelief, sorrow and hope throughout.
I am so excited to read the final book of the trilogy and this book was the perfect lead up!
