Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster UK Children's for allowing me to read an arc of this wonderful book.

F.T Lukens is one of my all time favourite authors and I was thrilled to be allowed to read this a month early. I never doubted the five star rating because their books are always incredible. I was so looking forward to Rook and Sun’s story because for the first time one of the main characters was nonbinary and neurodivergent. As someone who is nonbinary and autistic, this was so meaningful to me, and such a comfort too.

I loved the characters so much and the story was really engaging and interesting. I laughed and I cried with them and I felt like I was part of the adventure.

I’d encourage anyone to read this book, and I eagerly await what they write next.

I have posted a link to my Instagram book reviewing account with my new post reviewing Spell Bound.

Spell Bound by F.T. Lukens is a YA LGBTQIA+ romantic fantasy that will be released April 13th by Simon and Schuster.

Edison Rooker has always felt like an outcast from the magical world. He once lived with his grandmother, a low-level sorcerer. Their cottage hummed with magical energy, as she created potions and conjured butterflies in their garden. After she passed, the Magical Consortium (a corrupt government body that monitors the misuse of magic), deemed unsuitable for Rook to live in the magical community and he was forced to live in the city with the daily reminder that, unlike, his grandmother and many of those around him, he possess no magical abilities.

At a desperate attempt to belong he plans to get a job as apprentice to powerful sorceress Antonia Hex and create technology that not only complie spells but allows everyone to see the magical ley lines that run throughout the city.

Unfortunately, he is often required to work alongside Sun, her rivals grumpy yet annoyingly cute apprentice.

When the Magical Consortium discover his unauthorised device, they come for Antonia, and Rook is forced to work with his rival to rescue his mentor and uncover the corruption of the magical world from within.

Spell Bound is a vibrant and immersive story full of wonderful oodities and mischievous magic. I found it incredibly captivating and a whole lot of fun. Sun and Rook’s relationship is very sweet. I adored how they respected each other boundaries and how cautiously and slowly they became each others person. The protectivness that grew between them was really wholesome and heartwarming. I found myself smiling throughout their interactions.

Antonia was just plain awesome. Without giving too much away, I'd love to read a prequel.

I absolutely loved Spell Bound!
This was actually the first book I've read by F.T. Lukens and I'm really excited to read their other books which I actually already own.
I really enjoyed the world building and the magic system.
I also really loved both Rook and Sun!
They had the best grumpy x sunshine relationship!
I highly recommend this book!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

My first time reading this author and I have already bought another one of their books! This was so much better than I anticipated, as well as a super cute love story, there’s actually a solid plot about corruption within governing bodies and fighting for your place in the world. Add in some humour, Herb is an absolute legend, and this is a really great read. A definite recommend.
