This was a very enjoyable book with a twist nobody would ever be able to see coming and that was the awesome part! I love a good twist! This was my first book by this author and I am looking forward to reading more in the future! I highly recommend this book to all my friends and family! Give it a go! You won’t be disappointed!
As I listened to this book I found myself zoning out and having to go back several times throughout the book. It's not that it wasn't good, I just felt the characters didn't call to me. I felt the mom was too self absorbed about what was going on with her husband and the "terrible secret" from her childhood..which yes was sad (and I can see why she would have PTSD or whatever) but like get over it. It was truly an accident. I disliked the husband and to be honest all of the other characters.
Okay I have to be honest and admit that this one kinda started off a bit slow and confusing, but once it picked up I really enjoyed it!
The Mistress Next Door by Lesley Sanderson Narrated by Eilidh Beaton was an excellent book/audiobook from start to finish. It was an addictive unputdownable psychological thriller. I had to listen to it all day to find out what happened. and was full of twists and turns and all the characters were excellent Especially the ending was 10/10.
I highly recommend this book I loved it

I received an audio ARC of The Mistress Next Door via NetGalley for an honest review*
Was the Mistress Next Door the most original thriller I’ve ever read? Nah. Was it a page-tuner that had me guessing until the end? Yup.
Harriet has a secret. But so does her husband. Their children’s lives could potentially be in danger, and they live in a VERY close neighborhood with lots of gossip, and eyes everywhere.
The beginning of the Mistress Next Door was absolutely gripping… but after that, it progressed sooooo slowly. Things picked back up, and I enjoyed the “who is it” aspect, and truly didn’t call the ending of this wild ride!
3.5⭐
Featuring ~ dual 1st and 3rd person POV, dual timeline (present & 2006), infidelity, secrets of course
I was sucked right into this one when one of Harriet's twins goes missing while they are at the park. She can't get in touch with her husband when he's out of town for work to let him know ~ hmmm, I wonder why that is? Not a spoiler cuz it's in the blurb, but we've got another cheating toolish husband ~ they seem to be everywhere. Harriet is feeling overwhelmed being a mum to 3 girls, getting crazy notes and trying to prove Oliver's unfaithfulness.
We have some chapters from anonymous in 2006 and some anonymous notes in the present, which kept the suspense up a bit. It does drag some in the middle, though. Although the plot wasn't a particularity new one I was invested and wanted to know how it would all play out. It was a fast paced, quick listen/read with a couple of heart pounding moments.
Narrated by Eilidh Beaton for 8 hours and 21 minutes. She mostly did a fine job. I didn't care for her children's voices.
I was super excited to read this book. The beginning of the book really hooks you. However, the story starts to go flat. The characters lack depth, especially the husband. I really wish some secrets were revealed along the way to keep interest in the story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review
I received this audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for a review. I felt the premise and characters have been done before in other books and there wasn’t anything unique to separate itself from an oversaturated market. The ending itself felt a bit like a throwaway since there didn’t seem to be a lot of hints to tie it all together and make it plausible. Perhaps I missed some as I listened to the book instead of reading. That said, I enjoyed the book, especially the narrator, but it wasn’t a stand out to me.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book.
I gave this book a solid 3.5 stars.
Harriet begins to receive notes threatening her family, that she fears are tied to her past. Her husband is having an affair, and she is desperate to find out who the mistress is. Throughout the whole book, you are craving the answers to who is stalking Harriet now, and what happened to cause it.
The book definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting to know more. I found Harriet to be rather annoying and unlikeable. Anyone would be paranoid, receiving threatening notes, but she seems over the top paranoid and insecure about everything.
The ending caused more of a, "meh I guess so," reaction than a mind blown plot twist. I had guessed the motive early on, so that wasn't that surprising to me. I was also expecting Harriet's big secret to be something so much worse than it was. From the villain's perspective, I understood the motive. I just thought it was all a little anticlimactic.
Overall, the writing style didn't bother me, and it is a good read for anyone who wants a reliable thriller book.
This was a great read! I will mention there are some trigger warnings that I wasn’t ready for, but not too many. This has twists that you wouldn’t expect, and excellent character development that makes you irritated with some of the characters, characters important to the plot who deserve your irritation. There were parts that dragged just a tad, but I think the lull was important to map out the emotions that came with the book.
All the signs were there that Oliver was cheating on his wife, Harriet. But the question is, who was he cheating with?
This story should have been better. I feel like something was lacking and it didn't have that oomph to keep me as engrossed as I should've been. An okay story with an okay group of characters but unfortunately not the thrill to go with it.
Thanks NetGalley for the listen, I enjoyed the narrator. I really enjoyed this story, it’s one of those books where every chapter you’re guessing a different person for the “who done it”. Will definitely check out other books by this author, great read!
A missing child, a potential mistress, and a huge secret. Harriet's perfect life is about to come crashing down after receiving a series of mysterious notes. She's determined to find proof of her husband's affair and keep her secrets to herself, but will she succeed?
This book started out strong with tons of action and suspense! Who took her daughter? Who wrote the note? Who is her husband sleeping with? But the excitement quickly fizzled out, and the middle of the book was very slow. Some of the key players in the ending didn't have enough depth for me to get to know the character, so I was kind of left going "wait, who did what?"
I think if I had felt more connected to the characters I would have enjoyed this book more, but I don't think it turned me off from trying another book from this author. I thought the storyline was interesting and exciting, it just needed a little different execution for me!
This book wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. I wish the characters had been more developed and at least make one person likeable .
Oh my gosh, this book is amazing. I seriously loved every second of this book. I never saw the ending coming. It got my attention, and it kept it the entire book. It's honestly a very good book. There are many twists and turns. The mystery is so good. Highly recommend it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Narrator did a good job. The book itself was ok. A little but drawn out and complicated.
I did read as well as listen to the Audi version.
This is a captivating psychological thriller, well narrated and easy to listen to.
Someone is really trying to get into the head of mother of 3, Harriet. This person knows she has a secret, and uses this to prey on her insecurities..
The novel starts with one of `Harriets 3 children disappearing from the park when Harriet is distracted. This is the first in a chain of unfortunate events that lead Harriet to believe someone knows her secret and is out to get her.
Harriet lives in a close-knit, some might say claustrophobic, community, and her desire to leave this for a more rural life is a bone of contention between her and husband Oliver. Alongside this Harriet has reason to believe Oliver is having an affair, and how this plays out is a story in itself.
This audiobook has all the elements necessary for a good work of psychological fiction - suspense, plot twists and a fascinating intersection of past and present timelines.
The narration is clear, easy to follow and well executed. All in all a great listen!
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook in exchange for an advance copy.
I’ve read quite a few of Lesley Sanderson’s novels. She doesn’t disappoint. The are methodically laid out and you can tell that research has been precise. The mistress next door was no different.
Pacy, exciting and disturbing flicking between two timelines. I thoroughly enjoyed this and would happily recommend. Harriett our protagonist is captivating in her ordinariness, her typical suburban mum. But there’s a dark secret in her past, a secret finally surfaces when her husbands cheating is confirmed.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to listen to this audio book in return for an honest review.
Thank you for this advanced copy. I'm not sure I would be able to read this so I'm glad it was an audio book. Think it would have been hard to keep my attention. This plot was just done in another book. I can't remember but it was the exact same reasoning. Overall, it wasn't bad. Some good suspense and twists.
This one wasn't for me. I found that I had trouble holding interest. I couldn't get into and stay invested. The overall storyline was ok. I did appreciate the twists and turns but was left feeling flat. Overall, I'd pass. #TheMistressNextDoor #NetGalley
