This book was a whimsical twist on the typical grumpy & sunshine trope. Ensley James is the sunshine, but a lot of that is due to the positivity classes her bestie Ronnie made her participate in prior to Ronnie's wedding. At Ronnie's wedding, a run-in with the bride's evil stepmother leads to Ensley being holed up in a shed in the rain with Drew Daniels, her older brother's childhood best friend. Drew, a successful veterinarian, isn't much of a talker, but their years of history lead them to a heated romantic situation.
As the female lead, Ensley is pretty likeable. She's funny and realistic in a lot of ways. Drew, however, was pretty unlikeable and was generally all over the place, jumping from being a growly jerk to somehow super articulate and romantic. Perhaps if the book was longer the author would have been able to better flesh out the nuances of his character.
Overall, this was a decent short read. It had a few LOL moments and some decent steam.
I didn't love this book. Everything felt too forced and rushed and I just didn't relate to the characters at all. I ended up giving in about half way through and just skim read the rest of the book.
I'd be interested to read a book about Lila in the future, though.
I loved Ensley’s character and eclectic style. Her love for her sisters and determination to do whatever to take care of them was so admirable. Drew owns a veterinary clinic so I loved that aspect, since I am a dog mama and love all animals. The tension between Drew and Ensley was perfect and the ending really honored how they’ve felt about each other since childhood.
A spilled glass of wine and bridesmaid Ensley is ejected from the country club wedding in the pouring rain. Ensley looks on the bright side and that would be her longtime crush Drew Daniels. The moody, broody and skin pricklingly sexy groomsman who is tossed out with her. Waiting out a hot spring storm in a cosy shed for two, it's time for Drew’s confession: he is strictly a one-nighter. Ensley’s dare? Give her three dates and see where it goes.
Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me and I had to stop reading halfway. The synopsis looked interesting. I enjoyed the first few pages/chapters, but unfortunately as I kept reading I just couldn’t get into the book. I also didn’t like the MC’s and couldn’t click with them, and Drew annoyed me so much (sorry).
Thank you to Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my review. The Wedding Confession by J J Knight comes out on the 20th June.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I loved, loved, loved this book!
Ensley and Drew are in a wedding together and get stuck in a shed. Ensley finds out Drew only does one night stands, so she challeyhin to three dates with her. He agrees to it, but only because he finds her irresistible and is sure he won’t catch feelings.
This was such a funny, cute, and quick read!
I loved the dual pov, and sunshine/ grump trope. Ensley and Drew were such like able characters and I found myself easily rooting for them. Add this to your tbr list!

Thank you to NetGalley, JJ Knight, and Montlake for this ARC!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
*Reviewed on NetGalley and Goodreads. Will review on retail once published!
I really enjoyed the banter of this book. The characters were mostly likeable and when they weren't there was a reason. I liked the way this book brought two people back together in an unlikely way. Overall, I would recommend this book and I love that it looks like it will be part of a larger series making me love it even more!
The Wedding Confession was such a fun read! I found myself laughing out loud a few times especially the beginning of the book. I really love the character Ensley and her personality. She’s a very likable character for me. Ensley gets kicked out of her best friends wedding and bumps into her childhood crush, Drew. They find themselves locked out of the wedding venue and get stuck in an extreme downpour. They take shelter in a run down lawn maintenance shelter. I loved the quick and witty banter between Ensley and Drew. Drew is a veterinarian and there’s lots of adorable little animals throughout the story. One sidekick character is a cute white kitten named snowball or Sasha named after Ensley’s mom. Many thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for the digital review copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Unfortunately I had to abandon this book after reading only half of it. I am in an enormous reading slump since last year and am very picky which books to choose to read right now. The synopsis of this story looked great, so I took a chance. And at first I quite liked it! It was after a couple of chapters it started dragging a bit. I actually did not really like the MC's and that is crucial for a romance...
The writing style is good and I am sure I have read from this author before and enjoyed it. I will put it on a shelf for now and see if I can pick it up later. I am sure it is a case of just me having a hard time reading at the moment.
Thank you to NetGalley, Montlake and JJ Knight for this ARC!
This is a great lighthearted story and I finished this in one sitting which normally doesn’t happen much for me, it really takes a lot to prevent me from putting a book down and this book had all those ingredients! The pace of the story was just right, not rushed, although some might say that it is. Our FMC is Ensley and she meets Drew, our MMC and her brother’s childhood best friend, at her best friend’s wedding and… the rest is history! No, wait! It’s not over until you roll on the floor laughing with Knight’s witty writing! I really enjoy dual POV stories because you get to experiences both party’s thoughts and this story had just that. Ensley challenges Drew to break his no second dates rule with a three dates challenge to see if he can make a connection. We get a really engaging story with complex and emotional characters that will make you fall in love with this book!
Loved it so much, I read it in one night.
Everything about this book is just right, from the characters, the plot, settings, pace …I’m sad the book ended, am happy with a warm glory feeling inside, and am going to look for more books by this author.
Highly recommend
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title.
It’s a cute, quick read, but did I love it? Meh. It started off strong, but why did everything have to be smooshed into a single week? The whole thing felt kind of rushed and I don’t feel like I ever got to know any of the characters properly. It was well written, I just wish there had been more to it. It just felt lacking.
this book gave me the feels. Don't be afraid to catch feels. i was drawn by the title of the book and then i was sucked in completely. really liked this and want to find more of her books.
When Ensley James gets kicked out of her best friend’s wedding the last person she expects to see is Drew, her childhood crush who used to play football with her brother. Instant chemistry and attraction but Drew doesn’t believe in anything but one night stands, can Ensley change his mind and get her happily ever after?
The grumpy guy and the sunshine girl; this book was a lighthearted romance with enough plot to keep it entertaining and don’t forget the steamy scenes involved! You’ll find yourself falling in love with a cat called Sasha and repulsed by navy clothing.
I recommend this book to any romance reader and give it 4 stars.
This delightful Rom-Com had me staying up late reading and didn't even know it I was so tangled up in the story. This was a beautiful work of Rom-Com literature.
I just reviewed The Wedding Confession by JJ Knight. #TheWeddingConfession #NetGalley

Ensley James is my hero! She perseveres throughout her out of balance home life and continues to do so, within her safe life, for herself and her sisters, doing her very best in all that matters to her family and heart. Drew, not so much. Ensley’s child hood crush, is seriously lacking. Loved this new book by JJ Knight, even though, Drew is part of Ensley’s perfect dream. Good read, despite Drew, never found my peace with him.
This book took me way too long to finish.
I am someone who breezes through books, especially escape reads such as this. I normally can finish a 300 page novel in one day. This one took me over a week. That is not a good thing.
The characters are fairly one dimensional, despite both having a 'background'. Background is in quotes because we're told about the background, but not truly shown anything or given any emotion about it. I found Ensley to be quite obnoxious and not very likeable. She didn't think through any emotional action and was very immature a lot of the time which had me rolling my eyes. Drew was a pretty big jerk, and his 'background' did not explain the reason he was a massive jerk to everyone but Ensley. More development for both characters were needed. Ensley's sisters were fun, and if the writing was better I would want to read their stories. The 'mean' characters in the book were caricatures and flat.
The writing was a bit choppy, at times the dialogue was stunted, and there needed to be work on transitions. Towards the end of the book I felt like Knight was starting to get into the stride of writing and I was getting into the novel, it was just a VERY slow set up. This has potential, but it's just missing too many things to be a book I would recommend to anyone.
The Wedding Confession is a story about Ensley and Drew, childhood friends, who meet again after they are kicked out of a wedding they were both attending separately. Despite their mutual attraction and Ensley's desire to see if there may be something special between them, Drew has committed himself to staying single and sticking with one night stands.
Written from both Ensley and Drew's perspectives, the story follows how they come to understand what they each want from their relationship and what they can give to eachother.
Unfortunately, I found Drew to be largely unlikeable. The conversations between the two were trite, often sexual in nature and I had a hard time understanding their emotional connection. Attempts to explain it based on their childhood experiences was not sufficiently convincing.
I would not recommend this book. But, I do thank NetGalley for the ARC.
This book was so fun! I absolutely loved it! Can't wait to read more from this author. Thanks for the ARC
This is my first book I read by J.J. Knight and it's a cute quick read!
When Ensley James was younger, she had a crush on her older brother's friend, Drew Daniels. Years later, as she's being kicked out of her best friend's wedding, she runs into Drew for the first time since they were teens. They both end up locked out of the wedding and have to seek shelter in a shed to avoid a storm.
This book was entertaining. Ensley had me laughing out loud several times. It was cute to see the impact she made on Drew and the little ways he started changing.
I recommend this book if you like grumpy/sunshine romcoms!
Thanks, NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC!
Ensley and Drew connected at a wedding they got thrown out of. He is a growly, grumpy veterinarian and Ensley volunteers to replace his receptionist on her vacation. There's a sexual spark but she's not sure she can trust him enough to leave her current job and move towns to be with him. I was entertained by this well written story.
