I'm not usually one for straight up romance books, and although this is romance with a twist, it is basically at it's heart, still romance, but I have to admit I enjoyed this one.

I wouldn't say that this book was really special, but for an easy read, bit of a guilty-pleasure book, it ticks all the boxes. I loved Sebastien as a male lead. He really is basically the perfect man, and is written to be so, but without feeling fake and overdone. He is just...nice.

Helene was pretty decent, I kind of liked her as a character, but wouldn't say she was anything super special or new. But it kind of worked within this particular story.

I did like that at certain points you'd get little bits of stories that Helene had written about two lovers meeting and falling for one another. Then you get Sebastien's version a little later of how they ended. It was pretty cool to read those sections.

Minor spoilers, but all stuff that comes up early in the story:

The name, I feel, is a tad misleading, and 'technically' I would say it should be the hundred loves of Romeo, as Juliet is the character who never remembers who she is, and Romeo is the one who is immortal, and remembers all his interactions with various Juliet's over hundreds of years.

so overall, like i say, not the most amazing read, but i really did enjoy it and if you're a fan of romance, or want a nice easy read, I would recommend this one.

I loved this telling of a story we all know and love. Thought it was written really well and I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen

A very sweet book, Romeo and Juliet crossed with How to Stop Time by Matt Haig.
A love story that travels through the ages.

Helene and Sebastian fight to undo a centuries old curse.
It’s a lovely book, thank you to #NetGalley for the copy to review.

I thought the premise of this book was really unique and I was excited to start reading it. It was very predictable though and I wasn't a huge fan of the narrative style. The book tells the story of Romeo and Juliet in a modern setting with Helene as the modern day Juliet having reincarnated over and over again but always forgetting who she was. We also have Sebastien who is Romeo who is immortal and finds every incarnation of Juliet and falls in love only to lose her to the curse that has been put on them.

Helene is a writer and goes to Alaska to complete her book where she meets Sebastien who turns out to be the character she has imagined all her life. It's a pretty predictable story from here on but it's still a lovely summer read that will take you away for a couple of hours.

This book is incredibly unique. I love Romeo and Juliet, and this book honed in on the original story in beautiful ways. It follows themes of fate and true love, and how stories can be rewritten no matter how much you believe they can’t. If you enjoy the story of Romeo and Juliet, you should read this.

My only complaint is that this book is definitely insta-love, but in this book it was kind of understandable. Sebastien fell for Helene almost instantly, and Helene fell for Sebastien in her childhood through her imagination and the stories she wrote. The fast-paced movement of their romance was definitely too fast for my liking, but again understandable in this book as they are trying to make the most of what they have before the ‘curse’ wins.

Definitely recommend you try this book out if it sounds like something you’d enjoy!

I loved the premise of this book.

We all know who Romeo and Juliet are and how their story ends . . or do we?
What if they are truly cursed? Cursed to be drawn together forever but never being able to live happily ever after?
The curse being that Romeo is immortal. His curse being that he can never die but will always find his Juliet reincarnated but destined to die tragically.

When Helene was young, she invented an imaginary friend who soon became the hero in all of the stories that she would write. He was her perfect man.
Now though, Helene is going through a separation from a misogynistic man and she has fled to small town Alaska with the plan of finally giving herself time to put these stories into some kind of order with the hope of becoming a published author.
But as soon as Helene set eyes on Sebastien, she knows him! He's her imaginary friend. The hero in all of her stories. But he's a bit of a dick and seems to be going out of his way to make Helene dispose him.

Sebastien knows who Helene is as soon as he sees her but he's been going through the ecstasy and heartbreak of these relationships for hundreds of years and he simply doesn't want to do it anymore. His plan is to make Helene hate him with such a passion that she won't fall in love with him and therefore won't die a tragic death.

But fate keeps bringing them together. .

I really enjoyed the majority of this book but felt that the end was really rushed with quite a blunt ending.
There wasn't any real character growth or development which made it difficult for me to come to care about either of the characters and I would have enjoyed the chance to learn more about some of the background characters.

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through Netgalley.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book for an honest review.

This book was such a cute and enjoyable read. It is a twist on the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet with our two main characters Sebastien and Helene. Sebastien is the unfortunate cursed Romeo who seems to never be able to die whereas Juliet lives hundreds of lives and each time she meets Romeo she meets an untimely end. This story focuses on if Romeo can finally break the curse and have a long life with his Juliet.

I really enjoyed this book but it is very simplistic in it's storytelling and plot line, the premise of the story is amazing and has so much potential to build on and I almost feel like it wasn't fully wrapped up and finished in the end as I still had so many questions about if the curse was broken and if they had a happily ever after.

Regardless of this I would recommend this book if people want something cute and romantic, as this will leave you wanting to escape to a small town to find your Romeo and has all the makings for a fantastic Hallmark movie!

Fun concept of a vampire like Romeo stuck with a curse where he can't die but has to watch the Juliet reincarnations die over and over- I think vengeful teenage me, who hated Romeo in English class, would have loved this divine retribution for him.
Although an interesting touch, the switch to a third perspective which seems to be at first Helene writing a book, the change threw me out of the story and it took a while for me to get back into it. This clever device adds colour to characters later on but disrupted the pace of the plot for me. I also didn't really like Helene but found Sebastien/Romeo to be far more intriguing than I had expected. An interesting read!

The Hundred Loves of Juliet is a beautifully spun and romantic read with a modern take on the story of Romeo and Juliet! I adored Sebastian's character and loved the weaving of the flashbacks/the many lives that Juliet has lived!

This was a truly modern and fresh retelling of a tale that I really love. I have a bit of mixed feelings... the chemistry just wasn't what I wanted it to be. Still, I enjoyed reading this! I think the rebranding of the cover will help readership - the cover on Goodreads doesn't appeal to me but the one here does!

A reincarnation tale loosely based on the iconic characters of Romeo and Juliet. I liked the premise but struggled with the narrative and did not finish.

i really liked the way the characters grew and interaacted wih each other however i didn't really understnad how the whole curse worked and why the current version of them were able to have a happy ever after.

okay!!

this book starts in a quaint little alaskan town in the middle of winter, and our FMC helene runs into this woodsy bustling pub with mounted moose heads and lumberjacks and friendly townspeople which honestly just sets the tone straight away. the cosy and comforting vibes just carried on throughout the whole book – despite the ever-present threat of death and despair.

if you really want to know, it's nothing revolutionary. its a straightforward romance that didn't exactly reinvent the wheel but it was sweet and wholesome and the vibes were so cute it was almost cheesy. this book is going to be a comfort book for me, I know it. but anyway

helene and Sebastien were so adorable together. they complemented each other so well and literally every scene they had together had me blushing giggling kicking my feet. it was so sweet I wanted to throw up.

helene was... me. but better. because she decided to grab her life by the horns, put herself first and wasn't afraid to be assertive and take risks. but even then, reading about the way she responded to different things that were thrown at her was so refreshing, because she didnt act like a fictional character would. she acted how a real person would. (I am also insanely jealous of her because her daydreams LITERALLY came true in this enchanting little town just like she wanted them to.)

Sebastien... dont even get me started. he can cook?? and he reads?? I felt so bad for him having to wait all of time but the fact that he was still gentle and friendly was so cute. bonus points because he was so insanely whipped for helene and gave her the princess treatment just like she deserved 😌

I loved the bit where they lowkey just went on a world tour, I love internationally set books and it was so fun to read. the prose was also lovely, not overly pretentious but enough to make reading this book a good English lesson with some really pretty descriptions.

to top it all off, reading the author's note at the end made this book even more wholesome because you could really tell how close this was to the author's heart. I wish nothing but the best for her and her husband <3

I want to start this off by saying that I really like Romeo and Juilet retellings. One of my all time favourite books is a R&J retelling. But this....This didn't feel like one at all, aside from the fact that we're told it is.

It was just a reincarnation story, really. The fact that there is both the cheating husband trope and the pregnancy trope in this made it so difficult for me to read and take seriously, and in the end I stopped trying. I just wanted to get it finished.

Hugely disappointing as the premise had so much potential, but you live and learn.

I'm not a fan of Shakespeare but love books with the reincarnation trope so was drawn in by the blurb and wasn't disappointed. This was an enjoyable escape into different times and places as Juliet was born again and remeeting Sebastian/Romeo. A lovely romance with a refreshing premise.

I really didn't get along with the last quarter or so of the book and I wish I felt more chemistry between Helen and Sebastian; considering the story it is retelling. The setting and premise had potential but I felt let down.

The description said what this book was all about. Juliet reincarnated again and again while Romeo waits for her return. Each time her life ends in tragedy, leaving him to morn. Overall a sweet love story of finding hope during trials. I ❤️ storylines about hope.

Spice rating: 2/10

Things i don’t like same writing style throughout, even in personal journals and perspectives.

Thank you Netgalley and Headline for the ARC in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own

Evelyn Skye's The Hundred Loves of Juliet is a breathlessly beautiful retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. It follows Helene Janssen as she travels to Alaska to distance herself from her ex-husband and try to piece together a novel using vignettes she has written throughout her entire life. But while in the town Ryba Harbor, she meets Sebastien, an expert crabber and owner of the ship Alacrity, and realises that the hero she used in all her vignettes is a real, alive human being. And she’s not just Helene, she’s also Juliet in one of her many reincarnations. And Sebastien? He’s Romeo. But slightly different to how Shakespeare described it. He never died, but he has to watch all the other versions of Juliet die in unfortunate incidents while he continues to be cursed with immortality.

What ensues is a glorious, moving love story that proves that soulmates will always find their way back to each other regardless of what happens in between. Through the 700-year-old curse, countless different lives and many different continents, Sebastien and Helene, Romeo and Juliet, try to cling onto each other in the hopes of stopping the curse.

This book is an amazing treat for any hopeless romantics out there and especially for any Romeo and Juliet fans. Skye’s prose when talking about Helene and Sebastien’s love for each other is sublime and lyrical. It is one of the best romantic novels I have read in a very long time. The novel will stay with me forever. A true masterpiece.

Star-crossed lovers is a trope that I haven't read a lot of, but I have always enjoyed it. The Hundred Loves of Juliet does that trope so well. A retelling of Romeo and Juliet, it puts a heartwarming and heartwrenching spin on the story of these two lovers, spread across centuries and in the present world with Helene and Sebastian. Evelyn Skye's writing wowed me completely. She knows exactly how to make you feel everything the characters are going through. While I would have loved it if there were more quiet, romantic moments between Helene and Sebastian, I liked the overall story.

I can't wait to get a physical copy of this!
