I absolutely adored it so much!
This book celebrates healthy love, family, community, parenthood, and the value of fathers.
It highlights just how important it is to know the real, true meaning of love & not just surface level love.
Love is giving & not just taking. Love is not manipulative.
So beautifully written and inspirational, for those of all ages, not just children.
Maeva loves her new bike...and it features prominently into her plot to get revenge on other kids who were recently unkind to her. As she explains her plans to her dad, he helps her think through what it means to love and what kinds of actions will actually make her feel better.
This book is certainly well-intentioned. While it makes no explicit Christian references, the text is easily recognizable as an exploration of the definition of love as offered in I Corinthians. That said, the actual prose is somewhat unsophisticated and on-the-nose. The illustrations have cute details (I love the cat and cereal pun!) but they look amateurish compared to most children's books on the market. This is a nice concept that might really benefit from a round of editing and a bit of polish!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.
I think Maeva and her dad has a really great conversation about what love is, what I means to feel love, and how to act when you do feel it. It’s a great conversation to have with your kids.
I Love You More Than Cereal is such a great book to teach children what it means to be selfless and love even when others might not be deserving. I also thought it was great to have a father in the light teaching right from wrong. All in all I think it was a good read that my children and I all enjoyed. Will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from these authors.
I love you more than cereal was a super cute book. I loved the title of the book as my seven-year-old loves cereal, and he loved this book just as much as I did.
It's a dad and daughter duo showing his daughter that there is more to i love you than the word itself. He talks about forgiveness and sharing being forms to show your love. This book was charming, and I can not wait to pick up a physical copy for my son.
<i> <b> "That's the thing about love, Maeva," </b> Dad said. <b> "It doesn't wait until everyone else deserves it. If we love others only when they are deserving, then who would ever be loved?"</b> </i>
Maybe I love this book more than cereal as well. Maybe.
I Love You More Than Cereal is an adorable, conversation-promoting story. Lovely illustrations, great messaging about what love means and ways to show our love.
Thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for this ARC!
Such a sweet story. I review kid books with my young children. My 4yo picked this one based on the cover. The story kept her attention and had her staying engaged and asking questions a long the way. We love when stories feature dad + kiddos! Amusingly my daughter was most excited about the author photo. She is learning about people’s jobs at school and said “did they write this book together? That’s a fun idea!”. Congratulations to Justin + Alexis Black.
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This is a short story about a girl learning what it means to feel love but also what it means to show love. She has big plans to show off her new bike and not share any of her candy with the kids at the park because they treated her poorly the week before, but her dad helps her to realize that that wouldn't be the nice thing to do. It uses examples that kids can really relate to in order to get the point across as well.
I remember the illustrations being very pink while still showing the things being discussed between Maeva and her dad. This is a book I could read a few times, especially because the message is a good one and I believe it's relatable for kids. Overall I give this book 4.37 out of 5 stars.
"I Love You More Than Cereal" is a precious story about a dad and daughter discussing what love means. It is a great resource for introducing young children to the concept of love. The illustrations are adorable, and I love the casual representation of an interracial family. This is a great choice for early readers and I would absolutely purchase it for the young children in my life.
My daughter loved it. The illustration are beautiful and it's good to see representation in children books. And the theme is lovely!
A lovely book with beautiful illustrations. The way love is explained is simple and easy enough to understand for younger readers. This would be a great read to share with your young ones to discuss love and what it means to them.
This was a good read for my preschooler who claims he loves everything. The story tells of a family talking through how we love people differently than items, etc.
a sweet story about true definition of love, and the fact that this book dedicated to their daughter is making it even more meaningful!
Thanks so much for the ARC NetGalley!
This was so very, very cute! The art style is perfect, and I love how it broke love down into terms a kid would understand - it's enjoying hot wings, but it's also sharing your hot wings to make them happy too!
This is definitely a book I would and will buy for my 3 year old - well done!
I Love You More Than Cereal is an adorable children's book with an important message. It teaches children that love means more than how we feel. It's also about what we do. My boys are a little too young to understand the full message but they understood that we should treat those we love with kindness. They also enjoyed the beautiful illustrations.
This would be the perfect book for the classroom and early readers.
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for allowing me to be an early reader. All opinions are my own.
This book has such a good life lesson in it! Treat others how you want to be treated! A great message for younger readers. I smiled the whole way through!
Thanks to Netgalley and 1000 Books for this ARC for an honest review.
I really appreciated the messaging of the book and how to define love in Maeva's own unique way. This is perfect for children learning about emotions. Probably around 5 or 6.
I will say there was a brushing aside of bullying, which was a bit disappointing since it teaches kids to accept mean behavior. Instead of being aware and unwilling to tolerate for tolerance sake.
This is such a sweet story that highlights how we can all feel and show love, to ourselves and others. With a very relatable example to help kids understand, I loved the explanation that Dad gives to Maeva about that "love is not only how we feel... love is also what we do". And what kid cannot understand what it means to share your favourite cereal! A powerful yet simple message that even young kids can understand and enjoy!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
This book was a cute a wholesome book!
the all over message of love is laced into every page.
And the illustrations that accompany the message are beautiful and sweet.
i loved reading this to my kids before bed.
This book is the perfect addition to every childs nightly routine.
