Awesome! What an amazing idea for a story.
Taylor Adams is becoming one of my favourite authors. No Exit was amazing and this one was just as good. I love that the stories feel so unique. Could not stop reading.
Wow this was wild ride. I could not stop reading and finished this book within 24 hours. It’s the type of story that makes you want to read faster, turning the pages as quick as possible and gave me so much anxiety in the best way possible. 5 stars, probably my favourite thriller to date.
I've always enjoyed Taylor Adams and whilst this didn't disappoint necessarily, it did feel long.
The story is very clever, with great twists and turns but didn't quite hit the mark for me in the same way as 'no exit'.
Certainly worth a read though.
Wow what a brilliant book and definitely a page turner!!! Page after page of thrills and twists that literally kept me at the very edge of my seat pulse pounding, butterflies in my stomach waiting to see what would happen next!! I love love LOVED this book and I highly recommend it!
Thanks so much to #netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this ARC
All thoughts and opinions are my own
I‘m a little speechless, what a book!! I loved ‚No Exit‘ but this story is just next level. Hooked from the start by its eerie atmosphere and vividly spooky descriptions, I couldn’t put this book down! This book just has it all: suspense, angsty slow burn scenes and SO MANY GOOD TWISTS. I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves these kind of genres. I don’t really want to say any more, just read the book and enjoy the ride!
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC - I will definitely buy a physical copy once this hits the shelves!
I'm glad I've never reviewed a book with only 1 star!! This, in my opinion was a pageturner of a book. The twists were plenty and I was cheering Emma on, never knowing how she could escape each predicament, but willing her to keep going. First set of acknowledgements is part of the plot and it continues afterwards .....it was late and that nearly caught me out!!
I loved No Exit, thought Hairpin Bridge was middle of the road and I would say this is on par with the latter. It’s very much one of those books which goes a bit batshit crazy and I nearly got whiplash from the back and forth twists. I reckon some people will love this book and others will hate it . I do like this authors writing and like the book within a book concept but I’ll be honest not my favourite book of his.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A RIP ROARING RIDE!
Having read and enjoyed other Taylor Adams books this one did not disappoint. This book does fall into the horror category and is most definitely an edge of your seat ride. I thoroughly enjoyed the various twists and turns - some of which I thought I had worked out and then others which did take me by surprise. There is a certain need to suspend reality but it is a really fun read. It is a very cinematic read and extremely easy to visualise as a film!
Woah that was a ride! This has so many twists and turns in it, a few I figured out but several had me thinking ‘what, wait, no!’.
The Last Word gave me the same page turning fun that No Exit did. Might have been a 5⭐️ but there were times when I found Emma’s internal thoughts slowed the pace a bit too much. That didn’t stop me enjoying this overall fast paced and totally over the top (in a good way) thriller.
I’m writing this review voluntarily and very willingly in exchange for the free copy of the eArc which I received very kindly from the publishers and NetGalley
A clever take on thriller in a house story.
Good pace and a strong plot. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a thriller that’s not especially hard wearing and quick to read.
Writing this review feels very meta. This thriller starts as a reviewer posts a negative review about an upcoming book release. Luckily, for me I found this thriller a page turning read.
Well, where to start? I started this 5 mins after writing a 1 star review for another thriller set in an abandoned house so i was a wee bit uneasy as the story progressed lol. Luckily for me, this is easily the best book I've read all year so it most definitely wont be getting 1 star. There are a lot of books in the "murder/thriller set in an abandoned house" type plot and this is by far one of the best I've ever read. To say I couldnt put it down is an understatement. It was so well written, clear, fast paced, vivid and completely enthralling that it felt like watching a creepy film on TV and I completely got lost in it.
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a harlan coben or a karin slaughter type. It's a really quick and easy read and it does so amazingly well.
The pace is kept up throughout. The whole plot is just so so realistic that it's impossible not to be swept away by it. The main character makes clever choices, she comes to the same conclusions that the reader does, as quickly as the reader does.... and she's proved wrong by yet another twists. The atmosphere is so tense and eerie, I read this home alone at night and I was unbelievably creeped out just in case. I also loved the fact that since its a plot based around an author then the story brings up the rules of writing good books such as using the things that you introduce and not writing characters that do stupid things just to enable a plot line etc. The main character literally thinks like a reader because she is one which was hillarious. As for the villain, he's also just far too easy to picture lol. I think any woman who's experience online dating and has come across a certain type of man who doesn't do well with rejection, will also relate! Always the ones who say they're "nice guys" and tell you how grateful they are lol
I can't even describe the twists and turns. there are just so many and they are flawlessly executed. You just have no clue what's going to happen next. And of course you then get to the big reveal.... only it's not. And neither is that. Or that. Eventually you get all the answers though lol. Think Michael myers always coming back for one last scare but in a book! Just amazing!
The writing style is so natural that it just flows and takes the reader along. The characters all are really well written and 3d, but without ever being clichéd or flat.
It's written with flashbacks to the main characters past aswell as excerpts from the book as narrated by the killer and all this is done seamlessly. I've read some books where the book/article/podcast excerpts ruin the flow of the story and feel out if place but this is just perfect and absolutely adds to the tension and to the the story really getting under your skin. It never feels clunky or takes you out the story.
In short, I've already downloaded all the authors works and he is now firmly in my favourite author list. Anyone who likes thrillers, creepy stories or murder types will absolutely love this. 100% recommend! I'm just so happy this amazing author exists
An interesting read, not really my type of book but non the less I’m glad I did read it, I have bookmarked the author for future books that come out
You'll never look at one star reviews the same again!
Emma is house sitting in an isolated home on the Washington coast, with only her golden retriever for company. Her latest reading choice didn't go so well and at the end, she leaves a scathing one star review. The author responds to her and isn't too happy. Then disturbing things start to happen around the home. Surely it's a coincidence, but as time goes on she isn't so sure.
The premise of this novel hoooked me even before I started reading and it did not disappoint. It was funny in places but also terrifying, with action on every turn of the page. I loved the way the author and heroine both referred to the way people respond to situations in novels, making it all the more entertaining, with some unexpected twists in the author's signature style. Such an enjoyable novel. Would I really say if it wasn't? (kidding). Brilliant!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for this gifted review copy of one of my most anticipated reads this year.
4.25/5 stars! The irony of reading and reviewing a book about a crazed author that stalks a book reviewer has me experiencing a case of creepy crawlies. Taylor; I love your works (don't murder me pls lol). I adored my first book by Taylor "No Exit," so I jumped at the chance to read this tale. Overall, this story really worked for me. I, too, am an introverted chick who prefers quiet with my dogs over human interactions and reads a crazy amount. Because of this, I related to the FMC a lot. I will say that I felt this book to be a bit more predictable than "No Exit," but I still enjoyed turning every page until the end.
I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
This was so stressful in the most entertaining way possible. Damn, I love Taylor Adams books. This one starts with a woman and her dog in a remote house on a remote island and then shit gets intense. I LOVED the protaganist. I loved the twists. I loved the action (no one writes a shoot out as good as this author.) And overall it was a darn good time. I read it cover to cover in one sitting. I hope it gets made into a movie one day.
I received this arc for free from netgalley in exchange for a review.
