I received an arc of this title from NetGalley. You would think that everything that could ever be written about the Titanic has been, but author David Ross has managed to scrounge up more information and photos of this historical ship.

This was a great book with very interesting photographs of the RMS Titanic. I've been obsessed with reading about this ship since I was a child and thought I had seen all there was to see and knew all of the facts. This book included a few snippets of information and photographs I hadn't seen before.

I enjoyed reading this account of the Titanic. The author makes use of historical photographs and first hand accounts to tell the story of the ship and the fateful voyage. I really enjoyed the behind the scenes of the construction. It is well written, researched and easy to read. This book makes a great starting point for anyone who wants to know more about the ship. This was so cool! I've been interested in the story of Titanic for as long as I can remember and this gave even more (new) insights. The book looks very gorgeous as well and the pictures are worth looking at long! Really nice and truly necessary for every Titanic-lover.

This was a fascinating book that showed that David Ross had done a great deal of excellent research. It was so interesting to read the descriptions f the interior of the ship at all levels with many pictures, paintings and photos to assist the written word. It was harrowing to read the survivor stories and the distress calls though as they were so emotional .
This is a topic that has interested me but I had never before seen photo’s of the construction of the ship.
Highly recommend this to anyone interested in this historical account.

While the story of the Titanic is not new, the images and content in this collection were new to me. The pictures contain moments of everyday life for those on board as well as stunning details I have not seen before. I am more drawn to the human experience that the inner workings of the construction and engineering, but all aspects are covered in an appealing manner. I was able to understand the explanations and enjoyed the descriptions. The background on so many other people who had a role or an experience of this great tragedy reminded me again of the significance of the loss. While the outcome is altogether heart breaking, the stories leading into the journey are priceless. I appreciate the breadth of content and depth of descriptions. A very well done compilation to pay homage to the Titanic.

If you are looking for a really detailed account of the Titanic from its conception through to its unfortunate demise then this is not the book for you, and there are many others out there that provide that level of detail.

However, the book would serve as a fine introduction for someone not already familiar with the Titanic. It tells the story of the great ship from its “unsinkable” design, its construction, its maiden voyage, then on the disaster itself and the aftermath, and strikes a good balance by telling that story both in text format and visually through its impressive collection of images. I have read quite a few books about Titanic, and still found a few facts and in particular photographs that I hadn’t come across before.

An excellently written book! Anyone fascinated with the history of the Titanic will devour this book. It's not only packed with loads of information, but with pictures that add the visual aspect to the text. Actually seeing not just the ship, but the passengers and crew as well provides an added layer to the realness of this horrible event. Definitely a worthwhile read.

I am obsessed with the story of Titanic and have read most books out there. This one does not disappoint it is full of photos and stories of the event and aftermath and I even found some new photos I had never seen before. This is a must read for anyone who has a fascination with this story.

When people praised the captain of the Titanic for going down with his ship, George Bernard Shaw wrote tartly: 'So did the cat'. The story of this amazing ship has become legendary, and the subject of countless books, novels and films. It is one of endless fascination.

David Ross conducts a comprehensive forensic examination of the ship, and the tragic disaster in this book. He explores the structure of the ship, the class distinction, the timing of the disaster, the conduct of the officers and crew and the enquiries. The most interesting part was the part that the ship the Californian played, which Ross writes about in detail.

I also liked the descriptions of the cabins, dining-rooms and facilities of each class. First Class, of course, sounds sumptuous, but the passengers in Third Class enjoyed generous facilities compared with other ships. They had three meals a day in their dining-room with a choice of dishes, and a means for complaining if service was poor. There was also a men's smoking room, and a 'general room', similar to a waiting room in a train station.

This was an interesting and easy read with ample illustrations, photographs and paintings.

A well done book on the sinking of the Titanic. The author has simplified the event to explain what happened leading up through the aftermath of the disaster. There is good use of photographs and eye witness accounts to hold your interest. A great read.

Firstly I have to say that the photos that goes with the whole story of Titanic truly fascinating.

Prior to watching the blockbuster film Titanic I didn’t real know anything about the ship nor the story behind it. This book is concise and tells us the story of Titanic from beginning to the very end and beyond. I found it an interesting read that was easy to follow. The way the author has put this book together with the various chapters I found excellent too.

For me with the pictures it was good to be able to put faces to the names of all that were involved with the design , build & who worked on Titanic.

Titanic is a riveting book with 180+ photos and information of the largest luxury cruise liner which sunk after hitting an iceberg on the nightmarish night of April 14, 1912. Over 1,500 perished on the "unsinkable" Titanic. Not only are there photos of the construction phase (propellers, engines, bulkheads, hydraulics and builders themselves) but also some of the elegant rooms, decks, posters, maps, witness drawings, the iceberg, boarding passes, name lists and dinner menus. But most poignant of all are those of the officers, staff and the travelers from the third-class migrants to first-class Edwardian aristocrats. Author David Ross discusses this snapshot of Edwardian class structure in miniature. Unlike many other liners the third class passengers had beds and good food but of course nothing remotely in a similar realm as the obscenely elegant first-class suites and public spaces. Some passengers professed to premonitions and feelings of dread before the voyage. It is impossible to comprehend the terror they faced when death was inevitable, regardless of stature.

What happened that night and how, reactions of the officers and passengers, the lack of safety measures in place, heroism and survivor stories are also highlighted. Conjecture and finger pointing still swirl. There is also a chapter on films, dives and the necessity of conservation.

Those readers enthralled by the Titanic disaster ought to read this fascinating, moving and harrowing book. Though I have read many on the topic, there is always more to learn and reflect upon.

I’ve had a lifelong fascination about the Titanic and have read several fictional and non-fiction books about it. This is a well written, informational book detailing facts about the Titanic. And of course the historical photos add to the presentation. The book has sections covering; the planning and building, The Voyage, The Collision, The Lifeboats and The Aftermath. I thought it was interesting that drawings for the sinking were already being put in the newspapers before any witnesses or survivors reached land. Of course more is known now that the wreckage has been discovered, mapped and some artifacts recovered. This is great for the history buff and absolutely the kind of book I would check out to learn more from a library. This is well researched and well written. I am an avid Titanic reader and I enjoyed this. Always something new to learn about this awful disaster.

I find the story of the Titanic both harrowing and equally fascinating. There are so many conspiracy theories flying around about it. But at the end of the day, this is a Heartbreaking story of corners cut and unfortunate circumstances which led to catastrophic loss of life. Years ago I visited the Titanic museum in Belfast - the facts there are incredible. This book mirrors that and the pictures are amazing to see. This really would have been the ship of dreams.

The book itself is well written. Fast paced. And full of facts. Definitely a must read for any titanic fan. Although you might not learn anything new.

yes, i was one of those kids with a titanic obsession, spanning from ages 11 to 13 approximately. and yes, i couldn’t stop thinking of how much i would have loved this as a pre-teen who couldn’t have enough of this story. not simply because of how accurately it showcases the ship, as well as its inception and all the work that thousands of people put into it, but also because of how absolutely fantastic the visual aspect of it was. i had never seen this many photos of the titanic, or of the people who boarded and never came back; there was something inexplicably mystifying about ross’s archival work and the way he threaded it all together in such an apparently effortless way. i can’t wait to buy a physical copy of this and just leaf through its pages whenever i feel like diving back (no pun intended) into the story of rms titanic!
