I found this book incredibly frustrating. Begbie spends so much time critiquing reductionism and pointing out its flaws, using its shortcomings to frame his own counter-arguments that it feels repetitive. And as with so many books of academic theology, I'm left asking, "so what?" Begbie's argument when he finally makes it seems sound, but how does that actually play out for the Church and for Christian communities? How are we supposed to use the theology Begbie presents to create art and engage with music, literature, visual art, etc.?
