Ordinary Human Failings is Megan Nolan's second novel and it is told in third person from many POV perspectives. The story follows Journalist Tom Hargreaves in 1990's London as he stumbles upon a scoop. A dead child is found on a London Estate, the parents were loved across the neighbourhood but there is an Irish family who are seen as bad apples and potential suspects. Carmel is part of this Irish family, she thought she was destined for greatness but life and love got in the way. The police are closing in on a suspect so she goes on a journey to confront her secrets. This novel was very different to Acts of Desperation but the writing was beautiful. The story flowed well and once I got into it I could see the plot threads coming together and I would recommend this if you like literary fiction. The novel has humanity at its heart and that is beautiful. I was expecting something different when I started this novel though so I didn't love this like Acts of Desperation. I would recommend this though because I think you can get many different things out of it and the writing was beautiful as was the ending.
