This is an interesting insight into the world of online influencers. It’s one I know very little about and I found that angle quite astonishing. At the heart of the story is a mystery thriller. Vanessa has it all…or does she? Callie is looking for peace and quiet but becomes friendly with Vanessa and then there’s Rachel. The narrative moves back and forth between past and present and with different viewpoints. It’s well paced and the characters are plausible. It all goes pear shaped when Vanessa’s son goes missing and the pace hits up. A take if love, loss, control, envy…it’s all there and I found myself gripped right the way through. Hope there’s more from Anne Taylor.
3.5 stars
This is a good psychological thriller.
Callie needs some time to herself so rents a quiet air bnb. The owner turns out to be someone she follows on Instagram and when they meet they get in really well.
Vanessa invites Callie round for dinner and they become close.
When Vanessa’s child goes missing Callie helps with the search until the Police start asking her questions.
There’s also chapters from the past about Rachel who used to be friends with Vanessa until things turned sour.
There’s lots of secrets and lies in this story and it will definitely keep you guessing.
Thanks to Michael Joseph books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Overall 4.5*
A great taut story about love, hate, loss, control and life as lived by many through social media nowadays. The chapters flit between the present and the past working forwards and feature three women and their interlinked lives. while your are reading the story, you are caught up in who maybe responsible for one of their children going missing and there are good reasons which may apply to them all. Only right at the end do you find out who !!.

I liked this story. It was quite a modern thriller and the twists as you found out each character's real story kept me intrigued.

Vanessa Lowe is living the dream on instagram, Great business, handsome architect husband and three perfect children.
All there for everyone to see, but is that really true or just what her followers want to believe.
When Callie arrives in the small town she finds that the beach house she is renting is owned by Vanessa, and quickly gets drawn in. But is anything what it seems. Very good twisty tale.
I’m going to admit, when I saw this book included an Online Influencer, I was like “Mmmm” BUT I was pleasantly surprised.
This book gets a four stars for me! Would definitely read more by this author.
Apologies for the short review …..
Talk about a very slow burner! There was numerous times I so wanted to give up but there just seemed to be enough to make me want to keep on reading and I am glad I did as in the end it turned into a good read. Very interesting main characters that it does take a while to get into them but its worth the perserverence. The storyline jumps around which isn't that great initially as you are trying to get into the book but once it settles down it greatly helps with the enjoyment.
A tense thriller set around the world of Instagram. Set in two different parts the present with Callie and the past with Rachel.
The book starts around Callie, who has rented a Airbnb in Whitstable. A small beach cottage next to the sea. Callie is going through a very difficult time after the lose of her daughter Ada.
What she didn't realise is that it is owned by Vanessa and Justin Lowe. But after meeting with Vanessa at her shop The Lowe Down she soon realised who Vanessa is, a very popular instagrammer.
After finding out that Callie's mum Is a world famous architect and her husband Justin is a huge fan of her work she invites Callie to dinner.
All seems well at first and Callie goes round again for a movie and pizza night with the family.
Then everything turns upside down in a heartbeat.
When Rachel first meets Vanessa a huge influencer on Instagram outside her daughter Sadie's nursery she is a little star struck to say the least. But they soon became great friends and Vanessa's three year old Mathew and Sadie become inseparable.
Vanessa's life on Instagram is perfect, the loving and handsome husband Justin, their children JJ, Emma and of course Matthew.
But after several months of friendship and working in Vanessa's shop and helping Justin renovate The Gateway things start to take a turn for the worse.
Vanessa starts slating Rachel on Instagram and accusing Rachel of having an affair with Justin but there is more to come and Rachel and her family move out of the area.
This is such a brilliantly written thriller that had me on the edge of my seat.
Very enjoyable. Callie rents a chalet at Whitstable while she comes to terms with the death of her newborn daughter and the break-up of her marriage. Vanessa, the owner takes her under her wing. She is an influencer and spends the bulk of her time creating the perfect image of her world on-line.
The plot reveals how easy it is to create on-line abuse, lies and vindictiveness or is it all true? Thankfully, for those of us who don't know anything about Instagram and such like, there is nothing technical in the book.
Vanessa's husband Justin and brother Adam are shown as surprisingly weak characters. The final twist was a little unbelievable but I did suspect it.
Overall, an enjoyable book that kept me up to the small hours trying to finish it.
This book was edge of my seat reading.
There were twists and turns and it was fast paced with short chapters.
I couldn’t put it down.
Loved it
A book I didn't want to put down.
A gripping read that shows the darker side if social media and that you shouldn't believe everything you see online.
Brilliant characterisation with lots of twists. I did have my suspicions as to what had happened but that did not impact on my enjoyment of this book.
The author knows how to weave a story that keeps you reading and I'd like to read more of her work
First time reading @AnnieTaylor and this book didn’t disappoint. A brilliant twisty thriller based around the world of social media and influencers.
There are a number of different layers to this story that the author explores making it more interesting and thought provoking. There are plenty of twists to keep you reading with some moments of fear, tension and suspense thrown in. It’s well written and descriptive with strong developed untrustworthy characters who have you questioning who to trust. Told in multiple POV’s and timelines with short chapters made this book a compulsive read I couldn’t put down.
Definitely recommend and look forward to reading more from this author.

Brilliant addictive psychological thriller! This is a great fast-paced read with plenty of twists and turns that keep you reading right to the end. It is one of those books where you are given just enough glimpses of the truth so you think you know what is happening but then you turn the page and you’re left thinking well maybe not then…
I found myself gripped early on with this.
I was interested to see why the Rachel countdown chapters mattered.
While I had figured out who I thought the characters behind what happened to Matthew was. I still found myself wondering if a twist would happen. (Turns out that was the twist)
Enough clues we're given throughout that the who and why wasn't really a shock. It was kind of predictable. However it didn't ruin my enjoyment.
Well, this was a gripping read with a great message. "Don't believe everything you see on social media!" Somewhat emotional and disturbing but a truly riveting plot.
Vanessa Lowe is a glamorous influencer on Instagram. She is married with three children, lives in a beautiful house and appears to have a fabulous life. That is until the day her youngest son, Matthew goes missing.
Callie is one of Vanessa's followers, so when she rents a holiday cottage to get away for a break, she is surprised to discover that Vanessa is the owner. They quickly bond as Vanessa invites Callie into her life, but the closer Callie gets, the more she questions things that happened in the past.
Rachel is a woman from Vanessa's past, a fellow mum who moved away after several accusations!
The chapters were a bit difficult to follow at times as they jumped between the multiple characters so I didn't always know which character's pov it was immediately.
As well as the chapters there were some Instagram posts from Vanessa.
All in all, a great read. Just extra headings on the chapters would have made me enjoy this even more.
I look forward to reading more from the author in the future.
An emotionally charged rollercoaster of a tale. It will need trigger warnings (I won't list them to avoid spoilers)
I enjoyed this one.
I'm not sure if it's due to it being an arc, or it's how the book is formatted in general - but as it's a story told via multiple viewpoints - they're not always obvious changes - sometimes it's clear who we're with, other times there's no separation, one sentence you're with one person in a previous timeline, the next sentence someone else in the present setting. Sometimes there's chapter numbers - but they're not all there.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc ebook.
Thankyou to netgalley and publishers for arc
I have to say this book takes the very long road to get to the heart of this story. It is told from different perspectives from Vanessa’s and her family and her instagram and then Rachel and her own story, followed by Callie and her own story
All are bound together by Vanessa and her husband Justin they employ these women to work in Vanessa shop initially then Justin employed Rachel to help him renovate the house he and Vanessa own
Then Vanessa accuses Rachel of sleeping with her husband and burning her kitchen down
Then she takes out a vendetta against Rachel personally which she tries to involve Callie with but Callie is reluctant to become involved in it
Then Matthew goes missing her baby
Where is he Vanessa insists Rachel has taken him but it’s Callie that the police arrest
But who has really got him ???
Such a fantastic read, so many secrets and twists! And not forgetting social media vs reality.
I really enjoyed the different perspectives, especially involving Helen’s dramatic’s 😂, I also liked how different the characters were and their interactions with each other.
This story gives a lot to the reader, twists, turns, frayed relationships and even more frayed family dynamics. The use of different media types really added to the book, especially the random social media posts.
I found The Truth About Her to be an intriguing novel. It had a great plot line that gradually built the tension. I enjoyed the social media aspect of it and though it really added something to then over. There were some great twists that added to the thrilling aspect of this book. Thank you to NetGalley, Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House and the author for the chance to review.
What an absolute page turner this was. Totally gripping from start to finish with enormous twists and turns throughout. Callie has returned to England from LA after a traumatic event and rents a seaside Airbnb in December to try and have some peace and reevaluate her life. Feeling obliged to say thank you to her host, she goes to meet Vanessa Lowe at her shop. Callie is surprised to discover she is someone she follows on Instagram and is something of an influencer with thousands of followers. They make friends and Callie is invited into her immaculate home and meets her family. The story also returns to a time some months previously when Vanessa meets Rachel, a fellow Mum, at the nursery gates. Their stories continue and intertwine with Vanessa’s increasingly fame hungry and somewhat bizarre lifestyle. With suspicion, lies and tragedy this story delivers on every level and has the reader trusting no-one. A devastatingly sad story that unfortunately reflects but hopefully exaggerates the increasingly desperate lengths people will go to for attention. An excellent read.
