I tried really hard to like this book and feel a connection to the characters, but I just couldn’t. I struggled to finish it and was really just going through the motions. I usually like Trisha Ashley’s books but this one just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. I can see how much work and research has gone into it, the back stories for the wedding disasters and the journal entries from a long lost relative was a nice touch and the journal entities were the only thing pushing me on.
I feel bad giving it a low star rating, but I’m just trying to be honest, this wasn’t for me.
This book is based around the interesting concept of a museum of bridal misfortune. I learnt about costume conservation and the setting up of a museum. What I really enjoyed was the community spirit and how friendly everyone was.
A great feel good book.
Trisha Ashley rises to the challenge again and writes a heartwarming story with quirky characters and storyline. I do love her imagination on how she creates such fun people and situations. We are back in the countryside of Trisha land with the lovely strange villages and towns to immerse ourselves in. We are also bobbing between two timelines which is fun.
Garland has left London to restart her life being a curator of a wedding dress museum, this is the story of the museum growing as well as Garland. We touch briefly on other books of Trisha's which is nice, as it makes it feel part of a bigger picture.
Enjoy.
A good holiday read from Trisha Ashley. After a family trauma, costumier Garland moves to a small village many miles away from her previous home. In between Garland's narration is the story of a repressed 19th century bride, one of Garland's ancestors. Love all the eccentric village characters but I felt the story rambled a bit and could do with a bit of judicious editing. We don't need to know every thought Garland has and every conversation she takes part in! Great ending, which brings the whole village together.
I have always enjoyed this author's writing and this novel is no different. This is an interesting book with a double storyline which I always imagine is particularly difficult to do. There are comedic and sad moments in this book, and overall it felt like it could be a shorter novel with the same outcome but still a very heart-warming pleasant novel.
I am quite happy reading a Trisha Ashley book, great characters all rounded together to make great reading and this book was no exception. Loved the dress element as I like vintage clothing. Some people might find the dress descriptions slightly repetitive but the stories with every dress are captivating. Not sure we needed to relive Garlands dress slashing quite so many times but overall I really enjoyed this book.
I normally adore Trisha Ashley’s books, but this one didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Firstly, there is no wedding dress repair shop, it’s a (very strange & niche-sounding) wedding (disasters) dress museum. I just didn’t warm to any of the characters, and as another reviewer has commented, the story felt rather twee.
I still read & enjoyed the book, but nowhere near as much as I have enjoyed her previous books. Just missed the mark for me this time.
Let me Just start by saying I love Trisha Ashley. I have been reading her for a lot of years now and I still enjoy her now I'm in my 50's as I did in my late 20's.
I generally enjoy all her books, some more than others. This one I really enjoyed, I loved the whole concept of the wedding disaster museum and while I guessed the historical whodunit the modern missing bride caught me by surprise.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. .
I'm a Trisha Ashley fan and this is another cosy enjoyable read from her, just as I expected.
I enjoyed reading about Garland, a historical costumer, and her connection to an actress of the past through the dress she is making and a distant family connection. We get to see bits of that actress' diary, telling us her story, as we follow Garland along in the present. There's the usual cast of somewhat eccentric characters, who all come together as the tale moves along.
Not a wedding dress repair shop - a wedding dress museum with some excellent stories behind the dresses - which was Odd.
I have read a few of Trisha Ashley's books but I found this one a bit twee. There are some interesting relationships and great characters, although at times I felt there must have been a prequel which I hadn't read. Also, the title is misleading as the story is about a museum rather than a repair shop.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.
The Wedding Dress Repair Shop, is a positive, joyful story and I loved the quite, strong characters who had their moments of great passion and fire. As always,it's a joy to read a Trisha Ashley story.
This was an enjoyable read going between past & present.
Thanks for the opportunity to read & review it.
I am a big Trisha Ashley fan and was excited to review this book and it did not disappoint . A slow start but it got better and better. Some amazing characters. I loved Honey but not Marco. The cat Golihtly was a fab character on his own. The story of Rosa - May was sad and happy and lots of twists and was a story within in the story. The museum was fascinating and I loved the brides stories . The main characters name Garland was an interesting choice. A really brilliant read. A very neat ending. Read it.
I have read several of Trisha Ashley’s books and she never disappoints.
I loved this book, following the story of Garland. I can only imagine how beautiful some of these old weddings dresses would of been…
I would definitely recommend this book.
I have read several of Trisha's books and this one didn't disappoint.
I loved the main characters including the grumpy cat, it was great to imagine how the dressed looked and wonder if Garland would find happiness. Part of it is written in diary form which gives a good background to the story.
It was a lovely read seeing how the relationships unfolded and developed with a few twists.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book
Oh my word, yet another outstanding book from Trisha Ashley, I love this author and her style of writing it grips you straight from the start and keeps you gripped and guessing all the way through.
Garland Fairford has everything, her dream job as a historical Costumier in London and a handsome fiancée, but life can change in an instant and it certainly does for Garland, this book has everything from love and laughter one second to emotional and tearful the next, Trisha Ashley has away of making you feel like your there in her books, living what she is writing, the details, the story line everything just grips you, you will not be disappointed with this book.
I love Trisha Ashley and was really looking forward to reading this. I found it interesting but I can’t say it pulled me in in the same way her previous books have. I like the MC and I liked the unique setting but it didn’t feel ‘warm’. Interesting to read the wedding dress stories but they weren’t really disasters.
I loved this book. There are so many stories interwoven and lots of fun amongst the drama. I real feel good curl up with a cup of tea and get lots book.
Garland endears herself to the reader, the rest of the supporting cast play their parts well and all in a a joyous read.
DNF. Gave up reading this. Not a fan of 1st person storyline and it just wasn't an engaging topic for me.
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest book from Tricia Ashley. It certainly had a different spin on the usual romance story, it was well-written and I easily became engaged with the characters and storyline. It is many stories within the main stories, as each wedding dress Garland works on has its own tail and this makes for an interesting read.
Garland is a theatre costume designer and restorer, her dream job but when it all goes wrong she runs off to work for her distant, and recently found, cousin working in her Wedding Dress Museum. These aren't always happily ever after dresses either, some have quite gruesome stories. In the process though Garland finds, friends, happiness and a future. The characters in this story are great and very likeable, well most of them anyway, I loved her new friends.
This is a very, enjoyable and easy read, which I think all fans of Trisha Ashely will love. I think she will get some new fans from this one too. Highly recommended.
