Oh my goodness, well firstly, let me thank Netgalley.co.uk for letting read this book. Trisha Ashley does it again. This new book takes a look at the stories behind those weddings that don't quite go to plan. I was instantly swept along with Garland and Honey and what had happened to RosaMay. There is a lost long relative thread that entwines throughout the book and is in keeping with the two present day relatives. The artistic backdrop of costumier and theatre was captivating, especially the egos of some of the characters. The story goes from London to Yorkshire with betrayals to finding your feet and new friendships. I would love to live in the village of Great Mumming, visit the museum of Bridal Misfortunes and pop into the bookshop Fallen Idle, which incidentally I did when reading this!
It is always a pleasure to go into Trisha's worlds and this is no different. I loved the extra little storylines that were woven into the book with the wedding dresses. I was also kept on tenterhooks to find out when a certain playwright would be found out! Enjoy
Trisha does it again. I just love the way that she writes. It's very different than all other books out there which is joyfu. I really liked the main characters in this book and I loved the grumpy cat. I enjoyed the part that they were turning the most hurtful thing that can happen to person surrounding your wedding day into something that can be fun and engaging and giving the story a positive spin. I liked the fact that I was about new beginnings and starting again and the little country town sounded delightful. An absolute joy.
Another great romance from Trisha Ashley. I love seeing how her premise will pan out and always enjoy reading the characters she creates.
Trisha Ashley is probably my absolute favourite author. I love her quirky characters and brilliant writing style.
So I expected to enjoy this new novel, and I wasn't disappointed. It's about so much more than the title suggests and is perfect for a weekend escape.
Don't miss this one!
I love Trisha’s books. Perfect romances but so much more; a topic to get invested in and learn about -
The world of the theatrical costumier. There are two linking time lines, Garland in the present and Rosa May in the C18:., which also hides a mystery as she disappeared when her twins were tiny. The story is quite convoluted but easy to follow and the descriptions of setting up the wedding dress museum are captivating. One of my very favourite books of Trisha’s and highly recommended.
I love Trisha Ashley’s books and what a treat to be be back in West Lancashire with some of the characters from earlier books making cameo appearances. The different time lines between Garland’s present experiences and her past together with the journal entries of her ancestor added historical relevance and connection. The stories of the individual wedding dresses are a blend of touching and hilarious. I greatly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
Charming, Romantic…
Past and present collide in this charming and romantic tale of an historical costumier. Garland’s life has suddenly come apart at the seams, so to speak, and accepting a post at a wedding dress museum from a long lost relative seems a perfect chance to start afresh. It is also her dream occupation so how could she refuse? Garland is about to encounter more than one blast from the past. Engaging and endearing with a deftly drawn cast of characters, a compelling premise and delightfully written. Perfect escapism.
I have always enjoyed the writing of this author and this was just as good. Enjoyed the storyline and the characters! A perfect afternoon read.
What a fabulous book! I’ve always loved Tricia Ashley’s books but this is probably my favourite of them all. It’s a refreshingly different plot but has all the romantic elements Tricia is so good at. I loved the way the present story of Garland was interwoven with the past story of Rosa. The characters were likeable and well portrayed. The blossoming romances were well written and charming. The descriptions of the costumes and wedding dresses were superb and made the setting up of the museum very realistic.
I couldn’t put it down and the ending was perfect. I’d love to have visited the wedding dress museum and seen Garland’s miniature mannequin costumes! I wonder if Tricia had visited a similar place which gave her the inspiration for this book? This is definitely one for your reading list, I can highly recommend it! Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
Wonderful up uplifting, a really enjoyable read. Characters were believable and really made the story
I requested this book from Netgalley as I have read quite a few books by this author and always enjoyed them. This story was just as good as my previous reads and contained the authors excellent format of humour, lots of interesting characters and a good story with a few surprises. Some of the one liners made me laugh and the descriptions of the aloof cat were brilliant.
Garland the main character is a historic costume maker working in London for a well known company. Promotion is on the horizon, she has recently become engaged and her fiancée (Marco) is directing his own play. After creating an amazing costume for the leading lady of said play she decides to deliver it to the theatre and surprise Marco. Only the surprise goes wrong resulting in her losing both her job and Marco on the same day.
With very little to keep her in London she decides to accept a job restoring vintage wedding dresses in Great Mumming for a new Museum which will be opening soon.
The stories behind each dress and the actual descriptions of the dresses are beautiful but, not too over the top. Most of the characters are people you would like to get to know and as with all Trisha's books she creates a place you would love to visit. A really great story which I would highly recommend.
Another bestseller form Trisha Ashley, this is a story of two different characters and how their lives entwine into one. Was easy to read, once you get to grips with it's parallel tales
I have read quite a few of Trisha Ashley’s books so could not wait to dive straight into The Wedding Dress Repair Shop. I loved the bright colour and design of the book cover but once I started reading the book it was much more interesting and detailed than I initially expected which goes back to the phrase never judge a book by its cover.
I expected it to just be an easy read romantic story and although there is romance it takes a back seat to the story of Garland while also sharing the story of Rosa-May.
I enjoyed the way the book flipped back and fore between the 2 characters and enjoyed the stories behind each wedding dress.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and all of the characters apart from one (no spoilers)and would definitely recommend it .
Thanks to Netgalley, Random
House UK, Transworld Publishers and Trisha Ashley for this advanced copy in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.
Garland is a historical costumer in London. She works mainly making costumes for theatrical productions. Her strange name comes from an ancestor Rosa May Garland who was a well known actress.
One day in the Victoria and Albert museum she is introduced to Honey who is also related to the actress. They becomes friends and when everything goes wrong for Garland she is offered a job with Honey in a little village far from her troubles in London.
Honey is opening a wedding dress museum with a difference. When Garland arrives she comes face to face with someone she thought she'd never see again.
It took me a little while to get into this book but once I did I really enjoyed it. I loved the village and all the characters there. What a wonderful place to live.
There are a few surprises in the book especially all the stories behind the wedding dresses.
Another great read from Tricia Ashley. Loved it.
“The Wedding Dress Repair Shop” is a delightful story about three women who are passionate about their skills, careers and independence.
The book is written in the first person from the point of view of Garland Fairfield a talented historical costumier, employed by a theatrical costume company. Throughout the book there are extracts from the diary of her namesake and distant ancestor Rosa-May Garland, who was a renowned actress in the early 19th century, but after finding love and having children, disappeared completely, never to be seen again.
Rosa-May is the subject of a temporary exhibit at the V&A museum and whilst it is on display, Garland is employed to recreate Rosa May’s intricate Titania gown for a new play. Meanwhile she is introduced to Honey by a mutual friend. Honey is a highly driven, famous murder mystery writer. She is also a descendant of Rosa and instantly warms to Garland. So much so, that she asks for her help with a project that would utilise Garland’s impressive skills. Her vision is a wedding dress museum, not one for happy stories but dresses with tales of woe from jilted brides to the famous Titania dress, which although not a wedding dress one with a sad tale to tell.
The first half of the book tells us about Garland’s life in London, with extracts from Rosa-May’s diary interspersed throughout. The second part continues both of their stories but we begin to read the stories of each bridal gown to be displayed in the museum as Garland unwraps the donated packages. and we also get to know her formidable “cousin” Honey and her amazing plans for the museum in Great Mumming.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Trisha weaves a story full of mystery. Although romance is a possibility it takes a huge back seat to the wonderful setting and descriptions of the restoration and creation of the gowns. The strength of character and independence of the women being key. I am reminded how much I have always loved entering “Trishaworld”. In this book we are taken back to landmarks and businesses mentioned in other Trisha Ashley books such as “The Garden of Forgotten Wishes”. We meet new friends and find a wonderful new community in Great Mumming where Garland settles down to curate the museum collection.
With many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a digital ARC of the book.
A wonderful story of long lost family. Of how someone can change their life around with help and determination.
After a set back in her career Garland Fairford had to make a life changing decision. Honey Fairford he long list cousin offered her a job at a museum she was opening up .
Garland went to help honey organise the museum and as Garland was a seamstress and also made costumes for theatre productions she was in charge of the exhibits.
So the story goes.
A book full of surprises long lost friends. Finding new friends been accepted for who you are.
Well worth the read as this book delivers something new.
I found I could not put this book down for long, I read it in record time.
Written in the manner I have come to expect and love by Trisha Ashley this was another book which I loved.
It follows, in diary form, the story of an actress Rosa May Garland and the modern story of Garland, Rosa's distant descendant, who splits with her boyfriend and moves to Great Mumming to help set up a wedding dress museum with her new found cousin Holly. The stories intertwine in Trisha's usual manner and tell many stories at once.
While Garland is there she is reacquainted with Thom, a friend from her past and they rekindle their friendship, and he along with new friends and her cat Golighlty form her new family.
Loved this book and recommended all of Trisha Ashley's books.
A delightful read from Trisha Ashley. The story has two threads - one follows Rosa Mae, an 18th century actress who disappears following the birth of her twin sons, leaving only a journal and her beautiful Titania stage costume behind - the other follows her ancestors, Honey and Garland, as they set up a Wedding Dress museum with a difference and try to find out what happened to Rosa.
Easy to read with a touch of mystery and romance, Trisha Ashley does not disappoint. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Garland Fairford loves creating replicas of and restoring historical costumes which makes her perfect for her role at a historical Costumier in London. Her fiancée, Marco is a bit self adsorbed and distracted but Garland is hoping once his stage show opens he will have more time to spend with her and finally set a date for their wedding. she is beginning to think he is a bit flaky and his actions are stating to prove her right. Highly enjoyable and detailed story in Trisha Ashley's unique style.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have really enjoyed this authors previous novels and have devoured them all and this was no exception. Great storyline and great characters. Loved it.
