Trisha Ashley books are full of great characters and interesting places. Garland is a great main character who leaves London after being publicly humiliated by her fiancé and moves to set up a museum in Lancashire for her cousin who is a famous author.
The descriptions of the theatre costumes Garland made and later the descriptions of the wedding dresses to go into the museum I found really interesting. The small community she moves to has great characters and again interesting information about puppets. I really enjoyed this book, the story of Rosa May running through adds the mystery element and Golightly the cat adds the humour with a sprinkling of romance it all adds up to a book well worth a read
There was a lot to like about this book, but for me it was too drawn out, and far to many small details included.
First the positives:
The characters were great - even the 'villains were well drawn and the main characters were lovely
I loved the idea of a wedding dress museum
The general plot and story was good
I enjoyed the mini stories of each of the wedding dress disasters.
Rosa Mays back story
My main problem was once the main character left London it felt like I was reading some-ones diary: the minute detail of exactly what tasks she carried out each day, I could list every item she ate, and her cats every movement. It's just my opinion but we could of had the second half of the story in half the word count at no detriment to the actual tale.
A brilliant escape read to indulge in over the summer holidays. Several subplots evolve throughout the book with some delightful characters plus, of course, a couple of 'badies' to balance the mix. Wonderfully uplifting story about second chances and moving on with a cosy close-knit community who live around a fabulous sounding mews making the reader wish they too lived in such a supportive place. Another excellent offering from Trisha Ashley championing strong predominately females with a few twists and turns.
Unfortunately I was unable to read this book on my mobile.
What a pity!
I wish you lots of luck with this book.
This was a lovely read, full of character and plenty of strong females as you would expect from Trisha Ashley. This has an unusual storyline with several stories running alongside the main one of Garland moving to a new home and job in Lancashire after her life in London implodes in the space of minutes. There’s a great love to hate character in the form of her fiancé Marcus and plenty other brilliant characters besides. Garland’s job was fascinating as were the wedding dress stories and overall this was a great escapist read.
As always, this Trisha Ashley story brings easy entertainment with likable characters in a Lancashire setting. Garland is a sweet girl with appalling taste in men. Once she dumps her fiancé and escapes London for the comforting naturalness of Lancashire, the story gets going.
Written in her usual engaging style it is easy to slip into the cosy comfort of the new friends Garland makes up north. As always, a few unique pets bring humour and warmth, along with romance and a bit of a mystery to solve.
No bad language or sex, safe to recommend to teens through grannies.
Many thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this advance copy, much appreciated.
Tricia Ashley never disappoints. Her books have relatable characters and believable and engaging storylines. I would recommend The Wedding Dress Repair Shop.
A play unfolds before our very own readers' eyes and it's fascinating. The dramatis personae ( so much more than simple characters) take us into a magical atmosphere ( with a touch of dark). The author's attention to details and smooth narration regale us with yet another amazing story that I devoured until the very unexpected surprise ending. And then some more!
Fabulous.
Thank you to Transworld, Penguin Random House, the author and NetGalley for providing access to an early copy.
Such a fabulous read. A nasty ex kicks off the book and the pleasure in hating him is real, then a jaunt across the country to follow a passion for sewing and costumes. The detail in the embroidery, clothing repair and the care needed to give new life back to dresses is beautiful and the small group of friends are so well described, that you must want to join their group and live happily with them.
What a fascinating book! A wonderful mix of characters and a modern story told around a background of a historical character. I loved the wedding dress theme, especially as it had a twist to it. The community feel was amazing and warm, couldn't put the book down.
I was delighted to be offered an arc of Trish Ashley’s latest book, it truly made my day and hasn’t disappointed. I adore all her books.
I found this a little different to many off her others, it gave food for thought and although a happy ending it’s made me sad to think of Rosa-May’s ending and final moments.
It’s a lovely read, gentle with some beautiful stories of brides and their dresses…And misfortunes! Full of believable characters, many of them flawed and true to life.
Thank you to Netgalley the author and publishers for an arc in exchange for an honest review
This is an intriguing book with great characters as I would expect from Trisha Ashley. It shifts between the past and present and you find yourself wanting to read on to find out the fate of the characters. I particularly liked the mini stories behind the wedding dresses which are woven through the book. I would definitely recommend this book.
Trisha Ashley has not let us down with this book. It is quite different from her previous books and is an excellent read. The book describes a career and relationship gone wrong and then goes on to detail the creation of a wedding dress museum, friendships old and new and love stories. Well worth reading.
