This is my first book by this author but it will not be my last. Seb wanted nothing to do with his family’s criminal life, but after being wrongly accused of murder and being locked away for six years he would have no choice but to look into this murky world to clear his name. There are lots of twists and turns along the way for Seb to sort out. Will he ever got to the bottom of this mess or should he just get on with his life. A great read.
As a devoted admirer of this author's work, I was beyond excited to join the book tour for this new release. This thriller about gang revenge was just as I expected it to be - packed with action, full of exciting characters and featuring a plot that had plenty of unexpected twists and turns. As soon as I began reading about Seb and Ava's life in the underworld, I quickly immersed myself in their world and the writing style captivated me with every chapter. This book falls short of five stars because I have enjoyed other books from this author a bit more. Although this is what I think, I don't want it to stop you from reading this.
'The Kill' is available today, and a must-read for fans of this genre!
If you enjoy gang thrillers, then this is the book for you! Told from multiple point of views, there are two mysteries going on at the same time, who set up Seb and what happened to Ava’s mother? While normally Seb does not like liars, he is intrigued by Ava and the reason for her taking the position and vows to help her figure out her mystery. When the missing pieces of the puzzles come together, I was absolutely shocked! I didn’t guess any of that from a mile away, and believe me, I was trying to figure it out along with Seb and Ava. I enjoyed both of these characters individually and together. I loved the softer side of Seb when it came to Lily. My only issue is that the big reveal happened so quickly, and felt a little too easily. Otherwise, a good read!
I’d like to thank Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Kill’ by Evie Hunter in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
After six years in prison for a murder he did not commit, Sebastian Carter returns home to meet his sister Lily who has a damaged mind and is being cared for by Ava Harper. Seb realises that the person responsible for getting him incarcerated must be close by and is determined to find him.
‘The Kill’ is the fourth thriller I’ve read by Evie Hunter and although I enjoyed those previously this latest one didn’t do anything for me. At the beginning it concentrated on Lily, her damaged mind and attack which was unpleasant and unnecessary, the story was mundane and lacked excitement, and I couldn’t work up any enthusiasm for the characters. I’d been looking forward to reading it and am sorry I couldn’t find anything positive to say about it but this is solely my opinion and I’m sure other readers will enjoy it.
I did enjoy this book, my only complaint about it is I found some parts of it to drag and the ending was a bit predictable. This was the first book I have read from this author but I may have to pick up more.
I'm sorry I can't finish this book. The first page made me want to be sick and it didn't make any sense to me at all. As I tried to keep going it just wasn't for me. I'll give a three star rating to submit review as that is the avg rating. I will not review it on booksta or goodreads.
What a fantastic gangland story, I was gripped from the 1st page.
Sebastian is out of jail and on the hunt for whoever set him up……
Definitely worth a read
Thanks to NetGalley, Evie Hunter and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read an advance copy of THE KILL, to be published 13 March 2023. Seb Carter spent six years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit and now that he’s out, he intends to find the real killer and get revenge - without going back to prison. This is a gangland thriller that is highly recommended to those who enjoy the genre. #NetGalley. #EvieHunter. #TheKill. #BoldwoodBooks
What a fantastic, gripping, and completely engrossing gangland thriller. From start to finish, this story kept me hooked. It's an Evie Hunter novel so it goes without saying that storytelling is simply fantabulous.
We have two mysteries here - 1) Seb wants to know who set him up 2) Ava wants to know what happened to her mother. Ava's mother walked out of the house one day and never came back. Ava's dad tried to find her, filed a missing report, but there was no development in the case.
Multiple PoVs, multiple red herrings and two mysteries are sure to keep a reader guessing for more. There are major twists in the second half of the story. The missing piece of the puzzle is finally revealed and boy, this was a mind-blowing shocker!!
Likeable characters. I found the side stories intriguing too. This is a fast-paced gangland thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you are looking for a gripping and completely riveting gangland thriller, I recommend you give The Kill by Evie Hunter a try.
When Seb Carter is released from prison, after serving 6 years for a crime he did not commit, he vows to seek revenge. The book is well written and moves at a steady pace, with excellent characterisation. It kept me interested from the beginning, it flowed well but I felt the ending was just a bit rushed. I enjoyed it though and would recommend it. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Couldn't put this book down it was absolutely brilliant . Love everyone of evie Hunter books .This is a must read book . Would recommend this book and author to everyone .
The Kill, is about a convicted murderer finding who set him up for a murder he didn't commit.
From the title it sounded very murder - Y, violent and as such, however, it is more about what happens after the murder. I sure didn't guess who actually committed the murder and did the set up, so there you go, it tells you the story and writing has done its job fairly.
I enjoyed reading how the ex-con goes about solving the mystery in a no nonsense, almost non violent manner even with touch of emotions and sometime a bit humour too.
seb carter is in prison for a crime he has not committed so when he is released he wants revenge and payback.
who set him up.
His is determined to protect his sister lily who was raped and it has damaged her mind.
Ava is a carer who is looking after lily is ava all that she seemed .
seb is determined to find out.
evie hunter is a great author i have not read any of her books before i will be reading more of her books.
The book is very fast paced and a roller coaster of twists and turns and i was rooting for seb ,lily and ava .
Sebastian Carter has served 6 years in prison for a crime hes says he didn't commit, he knows he was set up by someone close and when he knows who they will be made to pay.
Ava Harper loves her job caring for Lily Carter, but she has a secret she's joined the Carter household to get answers of her own.
Sebastian hates liars but his intrigued by Ava and the more he finds out he wonders if the answers she's looking for could slove his mystery as well,or could knowing get them both killed.
A well written book by Evie Hunter that grabs your attention from the beginning,I liked the flow of the story and overall a good read,my only quibble is the ending seemed a bit rushed but I would recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC.

Ava ,who is employed to look after Lily, has questions of her own. What are they? Who do they concern?
Seb and ava team up to get to the truth ..... But it isnt that easy, great story, kept me hooked to the last paragraph!!!! Highley recommend
Firstly thank you Netgalley for this Arc
Another brilliant page turner by this author
Gritty edge of the seat
Can’t wait to read more
Action packed, sexy, fun, engaging and emotional adventure filled with danger, suspense and undeniable passion... an edge of your seat read from beginning to end and so hard to put down. Really enjoyed the charters I got to know on this journey.
Not a bad read but did find it a bit repetitive in places, covering the same ground etc but it was intriguing and I did want to know who was responsible for Seb being in prison, a dark subject re his Sisters rape but handled sensitively, some larger than life characters who were good to read about and get to know
