The Soulmate is another captivating thriller from Sally Helpworth who is currently one of my favourite writers. Gabe and Pippa are a young, married couple with two little girls. They live on a cliff top near the coast after moving from Melbourne. Unfortunately, their home is opposite a notorious suicide spot, and Gabe has successfully talked down several people who were going to jump. When he fails in his attempt to save a woman, questions are asked and secrets are revealed.
I love Sally Hepworth’’s writing style as it paints a picture at the start of the book, then slowly reveals details that make you rethink everything you assumed. This novel also covers several serious issues such as mental health, but looks at it from several angles to show the far reaching impacts.

It’s very well written and definitely worth a read. Wow!!! Started this book and could not stop reading it until I'd finished!!

This one is described as a domestic thriller but it’s more of a family drama. It has 2 narrators and 2 running timelines. The author touches upon themes of love, marriage and fidelity and mental health, among others so there is a lot to unpack. I didn’t find the characters overly likeable and they could have done with further development along with the storyline when it came to specific aspects. If I’m honest I didn’t really care for the storyline or the characters. It lacked suspense, thrills and twists in general and didnt feel like the plot was in touch with reality. Unfortunately this one wasn’t for me and I was glad to reach the end.

Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the opportunity to read and review #TheSoulmate

Another gripping, twisty tale from Sally Hepworth. I've enjoyed all her books so far and this latest certainly didn't disappoint

This was my first Sally Hepworth so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I really enjoyed it, so it won’t be my last!

At the start Gabe and Pippa have a picture perfect marriage, Gabe seems like he is the perfect husband personified! They have just brought the coastal house of their dreams.

Unfortunately the cliff at the back of their garden has become a place where people come to commit suicide. Fortunately for the people thinking of ending it all Gabe has spotted them and and has become a local hero for ‘saving’ numerous people from jumping. Until a woman jumps to her death. Gabe says that jumped but Pippa isn’t convinced and starts to think she saw something different and that Gabe isn’t telling the truth. She wants to find out what Gabe is hiding and who the woman is?

The story is told from two points of view we have Pippa now and at the start of her relationship with Gabe. We also have Amanda (the dead woman) told both before and after her death. Although Amanda narrates after her death there isn’t done supernatural vibe.

The topic of mental health is very well portrayed within the story, including the devastating wide teaching impact.

This book is very cleverly written, with short sharp chapters that cover the two marriages in the story Gabe and Pippa and Amanda and her husband Max. It has unpredictable characters, an ending that you won’t figure out and so many different strands in both marriages that make it such an unpredictable thriller.

Pippa and Gabe live near a cliff and have talked several people down from the ledge- literally. But when they fail to save one person, what lengths are they willing to go to to protect their soulmate? I found this a couldn't put it down thriller and completely gripping. Definitely recommend it!

Although I’ve heard of Sally before I’d never actually read any of her books but I fell in love with this cover and it was an “I have to get it” moment.

Fast forward a few weeks and I saw some early reviews on her “domestic thriller” and my heart sank. Usually when anyone says about how great a domestic thriller is I get my hopes up - and then I hate it. I don’t believe domestic and thriller belong in the same sentences. I opened the book with trepidation.. and read the first 2/3 in one sitting because I loved it so much!

Yes, it’s not a thriller as in an edge of your seat, people getting murdered, who’s going to survive type thriller. But it was a case of what’s going to happen next, what happened in the lead up to this for them to be in this situation, I needed to know more.

Sally Hepworth is fast becoming one of my favourite writers. I don't think I have read one of her books that wasn't 5 stars. If you like well developed characters and quick page turning thrillers pick this up.

Wow such an amazing book that takes you on a proper rollercoaster and is such a great read. Characters you can visualise and a storyline that keeps you guessing. Loved it

Gabe, Pippa and their two 4 year old daughters Freya and Asha have recently moved to a house on the cliffs which they hoped to be their dream house until they found out the spot was popular with people wanting to end their lives. Though it's turned Gabe in to a local celebrity having managed to talk seven people down from going off the edge. When he fails to help the 8th, Amanda, secrets and lies are threatened to be exposed pushing the bounds of loyalty and love and asks the question what wouldn't you do for your soulmate?

Oh my gosh this was so good full of twists and turns. There was a great romantic relationship, great family dynamic and of course so much suspense and intrigue that it kept me gripped from start to finish and I never knew which direction we'd go in. We follow the perspectives of Pippa before and after and Amanda before and after though I feel like there should've been a couple chapters from Gabe thrown in there too as I would've liked to see what was happening through his perspective. Theres great mental health representation throughout this too with Gabe suffering with mental health issues and Amandas husband dealing with them second hand. Highly recommend for a quick thrilling read.

Thank you to the publishers for granting me access to this text.

Once you’ve read a handful of domestic thrillers, you’ve read them all - but this was even worse. Classic tropes mangled together with too much ambition and confusing narratives. It was overall underwhelming and I found that the characters lacked depth. It was obvious that Hepworth aimed to craft morally grey characters but they were just plain and unlikable. Perhaps if the characters were more developed, I’d have enjoyed the plot more rather than dragging myself through a situation with little to work with. I felt that it was more of a family drama that had bitten off too many topics and ideas that didn’t mesh together well. I was simply not thrilled and it felt like all could have been revealed in a few chapters had certain parts of information not been withheld. Besides the silliness of the plot and dialogue, the mental health representation in this book is extremely poor. A close DNF.

Sally Hepworth is one of my favorite authors, who I always recommend to friends - and so it is no surprise that I loved her latest! I always enjoy the Oz settings, but found this one particularly intriguing. A master at big emotions and also fabulous twists!

The story is about Gabe and Pippa's dream home in a coastal town which is a cottage on a cliff. But the cliff has become a popular spot for people to end their lives, and Gabe has been successfully talking them off the ledge. When a victim comes along whom he can’t talk down it becomes clear that it is someone whom Gabe knew, Pippa begins to question whether the victim was pushed and if Gabe is telling the truth. As the secrets in their marriage start to unravel, the perfect facade begins to crack.

The Soulmate is a gripping blend of mystery, romance, and family drama, with each element expertly woven together to create a rich and compelling narrative. The characters are well-drawn and fully realized, with each having their own motivations and secrets.

The novel explores themes of love, loss, and identity, and the search for meaning and purpose in life. The characters are all struggling with their own demons, providing a powerful exploration of the ways in which our pasts can shape our present and future.

The writing in The Soulmate is engaging and immersive, with vivid descriptions and well-crafted dialogue. The pacing of the novel is excellent, with the tension building steadily throughout the story. The Soulmate is also full of unexpected twists and turns, keeping the reader engaged and guessing until the very end.

I also enjoyed the way in which The Soulmate explores the complexities of relationships. The character's relationships and interactions with each other are central to the story. The novel provides a powerful exploration of the bonds that form between people as well as the tensions and challenges that can arise.

Overall, The Soulmate is a gripping and thought-provoking novel that will stay with readers long after they have turned the final page. Sally Hepworth has created a rich and compelling world, populated by characters that are both memorable and relatable. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good mystery with a strong emotional core.

This was a real page turner for me, each chapter adding another piece of the puzzle. It alternates between two points of view (Pippa and Amanda) and two time frames (before and after). The story begins with a woman falling from a cliff, The Drop, known for suicides. The drop is near the house of Pippa and her husband, Gabe and their two daughters, a seemingly perfect and beautiful family. Gabe, in particular, from Pippa’s narrative is a near perfect man. Gradually the truth is revealed.
This is the second book I’ve read recently with a dead narrator (Amanda) but at least it isn’t the only perspective here. I’m not a big fan of the dead narrator idea but it works reasonably well in this novel.
Overall it’s a well put together crime/mystery that was a quick easy read.

I'd very much enjoyed Sally Hepworth's previous books so I was very excited to receive a copy of her new release.

The Soulmate was a highly unusual read (in all the best ways), with an interesting parallel narrative. It was fast-paced and had plenty of exciting twists to keep the reader hooked and surprised as the tale unravels.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for a free advance copy of The Soulmate in exchange for an honest review.

I always enjoy the domestic dramas that Sally Hepworth comes up with and The Soulmate is no exception. Following two couples whose lives have crossed during a fatal tragedy, the story is told through the eyes of both wives Pippa and Amanda, before the incident and afterwards, as we go back and forth in time to find out what may have happened.
Some strong believable characters and a gripping plotline kept me hooked.
