Pippa and Gabe bought their dream house near a beachside cliffs. Unfortunately, they soon discover that this beautiful home is right next to "The Drop", an infamous cliff for people wishing to end their lives.
After living there almost a year, Gabe has successfully helped 7 people get the help they needed. But one day, Amanda arrives at the drop, and meets an untimely death, despite Gabe's best efforts.

I was reallye excited tog et this book on NetGalley and read it pretty fast. But while I enjoyed the read, a few things did bother me. See for all my thoughts below.

What I enjoyed :
- The basic plot of the book. It's seriously fascinating. How a couple and their 2 daughters thought they'd live happily ever after, until they discover the morbid tale of The Drop. It makes you think about what you would do in this situation, would you stay in your dream house, despite the price to pay?
- Dual POVs is something I absolutely love! And it was interesting how we had 2 POVs but also 2 timelines.
- The characters' depth. How each of them were unique, and you got a real insight about why they're behaving this way.
- Mental health rep is always something I am glad to see in the books that I read. I thought it was really well depicted here, from the symptoms one person can have, to the struggle that is getting a proper diagnosis. I really appreciate the use of sensitivity readers to make this book more authentic and a real representation.
- I really enjoyed the writing style

What I didn't enjoy :
- The pacing ; it did feel a bit slow at times. It took a while for me to really get into the story
- The plot : while I enjoyed the basic idea, when all the secrets unravelled, it felt a bit much for me, a bit too unrealistic.
- The relationship between the 2 MCs is too toxic for my taste, and it's not called out properly in my opinion.
- I think I also felt a bit underwhelmed considering how hyped Sally Hepworth is as an author. I had huge expectations that weren't quite met. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more if I had gone in without.

This book really was pretty good, and I do recommend it if you're into mystery, suspense.

Thank you NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Pippa is a Wills and Estate lawyer living in a small seaside town outside Melbourne, Australia. She’s married to Gabe, who is the primary caregiver to their two young daughters. When they fell in love with the house at the edge of the cliff, they didn’t realise the implications of the location. It’s the spot of several suicides. Thankfully, each time they have spotted someone at the cliff edge, Gabe has had the knack of being able to talk them around. Until one day, the 50ish woman on the cliff falls. And their carefully constructed marriage and family is pushed into a new space that forces them to deal with reality.

I generally read romance and lighthearted stories, so when I am preparing to read a Sally Hepworth story, I know in need to steel myself for a push into strong stuff. This story doesn’t disappoint. As the truth is revealed, more and more layers of the complicated relationship between Pippa and Gabe are revealed. How she has protected him against the consequences of his actions since meeting him. The dual point of view of both Pippa and Amanda, the woman who fails to her death, from before and after, are handled beautifully. At the end, the true soulmates are revealed in a surprising way. Lots of twists. It’s a goodie 👍

I really enjoy author Sally Hepworth’s novel so was eagerly looking forward to this one.

Gabe and Pippa are looking for a fresh start now that they have moved to what they hope will be their dream home. They are now living in a cottage on a cliff in a sleepy coastal town but it’s about to wake up. They discover that the tall cliffs by their home is a popular location for people to commit suicide. Gabe regularly seems to be rescuing people who want to end their lives but on the occasion he fails it is about to cause big problems.

This time the person is known to Gabe and Pippa is aware of it, did she jump or was she pushed? Pippa faith in her soulmate start to dwindle and as their marriage is put to the test dark secrets begin to unfold.

This was one I just couldn’t put down and found myself reading it straight through in one sitting. Good characters, well written and an intriguing plot.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 stars

Pippa and Gabe live close to the edge of a cliff referred to as ,"The Drop". The Drop is a hotspot for people who want to end their lives....and Gabe has become somewhat of The Drop Hero, as he is usually a first responder when he spots these souls, to try and talk them out of it. One night though, Gabe is unsuccessful and a woman jumps. Pippa (Gabe's wife) witnesses the jump, and she feels something is off, but of course she trusts her husband. Later it is revealed that the jumper was actually the wife of Gabe's ex employer, Max Cameron..... Why did Gabe not mention that to Pippa or to the police? Is Gabe guilty of something?

The book is told from Pippa's POV in the 'now and then' and also from Amanda's POV in the 'Before and After-life'. I must admit, I always love a ghostly POV, so I found these chapters probably the most interesting. The book I found to be really long winded though despite it being a quick read..... The author perhaps tries to touch on too many topics, ranging from mental health to infidelity, to trust, to forgiveness, criminal activity.....oh and strawberries ;)...... I personally felt like it was just too much. Also I found it hard to believe that one spouse can be so manic and have so many struggles and the other spouse is like...let's just kind of ride it out.

The Soulmate definitely was not a thriller to me, this felt more like family/domestic drama. It was a really quick read, but I never felt that there was anything of substance to keep me properly engaged, though I did finish it.....but because I just wanted to know how this would end.

Get ready for a thrilling, addictive novel about marriage, betrayal, and the secrets that push us to the edge in Sally Hepworth's The Soulmate.

This is what drew me in to this book as it sounds like a thrilling ride. Oh and it was/is. From the cottage on the cliff (already it sounds intriguing and even a bit scary), to the secrets hidden within, this is a book that takes you for a thrilling and precarious ride.

This book is full of tragedy, thrills, secrets. It is dark and sometimes toxic and it kept me reading from start to finish as I just didn't want to put it down.

A well written, thrill of a book with great characters who made you feel as if you knew them and what they were going through. There are twists and turns and it makes you think and you get all the emotion of the story on every page.

Great and thrilling read and I highly recommend it.

Having just finished this book, I needed some time to process the ending before I reviewed. What a cleverly interwoven story!

Pippa and Gabe live happily with their two small daughters in a beautiful home in a stunning location - close to the cliffs known as “The Drop”. The area is notorious as a suicide spot and, whilst the family have lived there, seven people have gone to The Drop with the intention of jumping. Each one has been spoken to by Gabe, and safely led away from the edge of the cliff. The eighth one does not and falls to her death. This is the story of what happens after this event, what happens during and what has gone before.

I’ve read a few books by Sally and enjoyed them all but think this will be my favourite. It’s hard to write more without giving something away! But would highly recommend and am grateful to NetGalley for my copy.

I was very excited to read this book after seeing it featured several times on bookstagram, and was really delighted to receive a free review copy from Netgalley in exchange for a fair book review.

I was slightly worried about being disappointed, but I finished the book in a day and a half - which is particularly surprising given that it was actually a very busy day and a half on the work and personal fronts, and I didn't have much free time to read!

The book tells the story, in "before and after" timelines, sharing the experiences of two very different couples, their marriages, and the connections that bind them together.

Pippa is married to charming and handsome Gabe, with whom she is raising their two little girls. She considers herself fortunate because she has loving and supportive parents and a married sister, who have all moved closer to spend more time with Pippa's little family after Pippa and Gabe buy their new house and move out of the city.

The only problem appears to be the house itself, which is located at the edge of a cliff, a spot known as The Drop, because of the number of suicides and attempted suicides that have taken place there. Gabe has brought down the statistics pretty much single-handedly by talking the last 7 people attempting suicide out of their decision to kill themselves.

It is after Gabe fails to successfully persuade the 8th person not to do so that things begin to unravel. Because it turns out that Gabe does actually know this woman. So why does he hide that from the police?

As Pippa becomes increasingly suspicious about the situation, the unfolding of the back story gives the reader greater clarity about what is actually going on. Amanda, the woman who dies that day, gets her own chance to tell her story - as well as the story of her marriage to Max. As the plot unfolds in multiple POV, Pippa and Amanda tell their parallel stories, and a number of clever twists emerge.

This is a well-told story by a skilled writer, and it's a very easy read. It addresses issues related to the secrets that we keep in order to protect our relationships, as well as the lies that we tell ourselves (in addition to those we tell each other). Issues of diversity and mental health challenges are nicely woven into the narrative. I loved the book, and give it 5 stars!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC of 'The Soulmate' by Sally Hepworth

I've read one other Sally Hepworth book and honestly, this book didn't feel like a Hepworth to me. I felt bored constantly and none of story felt like your usual Hepworth page turned.
Disappointed but alas, that's how the cookie crumbles.

Wow! This is one heck of a read, extremely gripping and emotive. What an imagination the author has to write about a family living by a suicide hot spot "The Drop" which is right on a cliff top. It's an absolutely brilliant murderous love story where the drama never stops and kept me guessing till the end.

Pippa and Gabe live with their two young daughters on a picturesque cliff top on the coast of Australia, unfortunately it’s also a ‘popular’ spot for those wishing to commit suicide.

Gabe has become a bit local hero, talking seven people down from stepping off the edge. But when he fails to save the eighth it leads to some dark secrets being unearthed.

There were so many gasp inducing reveals in this clever read that I raced through it in just a couple of days, wanting to get to the bottom of what was going on with Pippa and Gabe in their seemingly perfect marriage.

I’ve always loved Hepworth’s style of suburban thriller but this is my new favourite by her, is definitely worth picking up when it comes out on 6th April.

I have just discover Sally Hepworth and she is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. The Soulmate was a real page turner with well developed characters and an abundance of plot twists.
No spoilers but the story revolves around the death of Amanda from a local 'beauty spot' that just so happens to be at the end of Gabe and Pippa's garden. All is not as it seems and the story just keeps on spitting out twists of infidelity, blind love and lies!
If you want a book that will keep you guessing I thoroughly recommend The Soulmate.

A cleverly written pacy read.
Gabe and Pippa move into their dream home with their two daughters. The garden is on a cliff edge where Gabe has talked down a few suicide attempts until one day he doesn't.
This is told from the points of view of Pippa before and now and Amanda before and after.
I liked the way Amanda was written as we would never have found out what had actually happened on the cliff edge.
Gabe is a complex character who we are never sure is telling the truth.
There are lots of layers to this and plenty of twists.
That ending! I wasn't expecting that.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Pippa and Gabe are married with two children, and live on a beautiful cliff. The cliff is also a popular suicide spot. Gabe is excellent at stopping the suicidal people. But one lady does drop off the cliff. And this woman is known to both Pippa and Gabe.

This was another exceptional book from this author. There were many jaw dropping twists and unforeseen turns. The characters were all excellently written and well thought out. This story does focus on marriages, lies, and betrayal. Packed full of drama, I highly recommend this book.

Gabe is alone at the cliff's edge. His arms are outstretched, palms facing the empty air.'

He said she jumped. He wouldn't lie.

Having absolutely loved Hepworth’s last novel, The Younger Wife, I couldn’t hit ‘request’ fast enough on The Soulmate. But, for me, this didn’t grab me in the same way as some of her previous books. The slow drip way in which the details of Gabe and Pippa’s marriage are revealed was compelling, but not enough to keep me gripped in the way I wanted to be. And I found the ‘beyond the grave’ sections from the perspective of Amanda didn’t really work for me.

3 stars. One for fans of family dramas more than psychological thrillers.

I'm a huge Sally Hepworth fan but this one didn't live up to her usual standard - I did finish it but wasn't as gripped as I normally am by the plot and characterisation.

This domestic psychological thriller was a one sitting read for me- from the outside, Pippa and Gabe's marriage looks ideal, but their family of 2 little girls is not as idyllic as it seems. Living next to a cliff top suicide spot leads to a history of deceit, betrayal and mental health problems being unearthed and we see that not everything is as it seems. Happy in parts, very sad and dark in other parts it is certainly a gripping emotional read.

I loved this authors take on a Prince Charming story. It was so well written and a great plot. I thought it was Lacey and so many threads and twist and turns. Brilliant!

Everything seems to be perfect: the sunny sky, the lovely setting, Pippa and Gabe love story. But something is off, there's a darkness in the fairy tale marriage, there's man who could be a saint or a devil.
Told from the point of view of Pippa and Amanda, Gabe's former wife and the one he couldn't save, this is a gripping story that kept me turning pages as fast as I could.
There's a lot of surprises, there's darkness and an excellent storyteller.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

Uh... I was really in love with the illusion of this book. I wanted to be all goosmd, I wanted to be all nice. I wanted to be shocked. I wanted to be all. And it was all. Till a point everything dropped off. Then everything was sad. Everything was incredible. And all was wrong. But with other eyes was also perfect. All had a purpouse. And all was confusing. All made sense. Soulmate on the other side.

Thank you Hodder & Stoughton publishers and Netgalley for thia opportunity.
