I have followed the story of Nico do Angelo since the first time he showed up in the beautiful world of uncle Rick and right from the start he had been my favourite character, so it’s not a surprise I absolutely loved reading this sample and can’t wait to read the whole book❤️ Absolutely amazing!
Damn, I wish this was more than a sampler! I must order the full book immediately.
With only 5 chapters, I was immediately drawn back in to this world of demigods, prophecies, and shall I say, utter chaos and terror. Nico’s dreams? No thanks.
I really enjoyed this sampler, and this has made me even more eager to pick up the whole book to follow Nico and co on this quest, and to see where it takes him (no where good, I imagine).
No notes, five stars, I would die for Nico and Will and I’m so glad to be back in this world. I can’t wait to read the whole story!
I was really worried I wouldn’t be able to get into this because it’s been so long since I read a Percy Jackson book (I’m 22 now 🫣) but I was hooked from the very first page.
I absolutely adore these characters and Nico was always my favourite growing up. I think they’re excellent role models for the children who read the books back and in the day and the children who will read them now.
Rick Riordan is among one of the greatest children writers and I love being able to see this beloved series transcend time.
A nice little teaser of the next instalment of "From the World of Percy Jackson".
But, as a newbie to this world and only having read the first two books in the HEROES OF OLYMPUS series - "The Lost Hero" and "Son of Neptune" - I did feel very lost as this very much continues on with this series and TRIALS OF APOLLO, so this book is very much for the fans.
This is just a little sample of the opening few paragraphs of the book but it does a great job at getting you excited to read the whole thing. I am a huge Percy Jackson fan and have read everything Rick Riordan has written in the PJ universe, I am always going to be drawn in to anything from the world and this intro was no different!
In fact, after seeing the official publication date was a couple of days ago, I am going to go and order the full book for myself now!
THIS REVIEW WAS WRITTEN AFTER FINISHING THE ENTIRE BOOK. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.
********
Fair Warning: This book reads more like sanctioned fan-fiction than a canon book, and thats something readers should know going in. This is fan service by the bucket, not a well-written, insightful masterpiece. Its also VERY preachy and clunky in places. You WILL be forced to sit through a lot of lectures on what xyz means, and it WILL make you cringe. Clumsily shunting in a Piper cameo at the end, specifically for the purposes of an LGBT-101 lesson was particularly embarrassing. Certain characters (Hades especially) are also woefully OOC in places. And the references... oh god the never-ending pop culture references made me want to gouge my own eyes out. I usually dock a star for pop culture references, and thats why this rating is sitting at a 6/10-slash-three star, and not a 7/10-slash-four star.
HOWEVER
I undeniably had fun reading this, and my criticisms aren't enough to knock my rating back further than a 6/10. Nico is a firm favourite with not just myself, but thousands of fans around the world, and he's at his best in this book. His trauma and his negative traits aren't shied away from, and his development, while ham-fisted in places, feels organic. I've always had a big soft-spot for Will, and he also feels a lot more well-rounded by the end. The story itself is enjoyable and well paced, never feeling like its dragging or heading into a dead end. Sometimes the fan service is actually pretty well done as well, particularly regarding the reappearance of the Trogs.
6/10
These few chapters have me completely hyped for this book!! Cant wait to read more about Nico and Will <3
Nooo! I received an ARC copy through NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review, only to discover that it’s only a sampler of the first five chapters. So this review is only for the opening section of the book, alas.
A couple things. One, if you aren’t already familiar with the Percy Jackson universe, you will probably be lost in the sauce during the extended dream sequence at the beginning of this book.
Two, if you ARE familiar, the tone of this one is a little different. I’m not sure how much of this is Oshiro’s influence (I love their writing, and I suspect their voice explains much of the tone shift), but these chapters were more… wistful than the original books. Some of the goofiness of the original premise remains, but I’ll be really interested to see how the story unfolds. Someday. When I have the whole book in front of me. *plays a tiny violin*
Obviously, I can’t comment on the whole book, but I can’t wait to ship Will and Nico during their quest to the underworld.
I mean, it's Percy Jackson - come on!! Of course it was going to be sensational. Gutted that this was only a sampler but these first 5 chapters have me so ready to dive head first back into this amazing world!
tantalising first five chapters that just made me even more excited for the full book!!! i can't wait to be back in the percy jackson verse with these characters i love so much. AND with a story focusing on nico and will?! just what the world needed
The universe of Percy Jackson is so special to me I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS! TOMORROW CAN'T COME ANY FASTER!
This sample is a fast paced and intriguing start to Nico’s and Will’s adventure, The prophecy given is an interesting aspect that I would enjoy learning more about in the rest of the book. Overall, this sample creates anticipation for more and I can’t wait to read the rest.
I couldn't help but be disappointed when I realised this was just a sampler rather than the whole book, but at least I don't have to wait long! This story is off to a great start and I cannot wait to read the rest of Nico's adventure
This little sampler has me so excited for the full novel! Absolutely delightful, can't wait for more!
Fast paced beginning to a very promising story. Greek myths always provide an interesting backdrop for character setting.
This small glance at The Sun and the Star has made me all the more excited for what's coming. I cannot wait to read about Nico and Will's adventures together as they journey down to the perilous world of Tartarus and the horrors that lay within.
I loved this excerpt! I love the RiordanVerse and I love this couple! I will definitely read the whole book!
Fast paced, entertaining and well plotted. I loved the world of Percy Jackson and can't wait to read this new story.
Thank you to NetGalley for the preview chapters.
I grew up reading Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan’s books and am so excited to be back in this universe.
The chapters available had the same great pace and buildup of tension you would be used to in a Riordan book; and am excited to see how the quest continues.
If you’re a fan of Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan; this will transport you back to the crazy but fun world of Olympus.
