Jay Jenks and his friends are back and are going to Scotland to investigate a lake monster. I wish there had been some more background for people who hadn't read any others in this series like myself. But otherwise a cute story!
The author resurrects with aplomb a type of children's novel which has almost disappeared from our libraries and bookshops. It takes one back to an age when good manners still mattered, even when you were chasing some dastardly foe across the Scottish Highlands.
Its old-fashioned values (and I mean that as a compliment) add to its endearing charm. There's no lack of excitement, and a real feeling of achievement, when the wicked villain is thwarted by a group of children, aided perhaps by something sinister lurking in the depths of a Scottish sea Loch. Bravery and resilience prevail.
