Wait for Me"by Santa Montefiore is a captivating novel that beautifully blends love, loss, and hope across different times and places.
Set in Cornwall in 1944, the story begins with Florence, whose husband Rupert is declared missing during World War II. Devastated, Florence finds a poem called "Wait for Me" that gives her hope he will return. In London, 1988, Max is haunted by recurring nightmares of World War II. Desperate for answers, his journey leads him to Cornwall and Rupert Dash. In Australia, 1995, Florence receives a letter from someone claiming to remember a past life. Could this be the person Florence has waited over fifty years to meet again?
I loved how Montefiore weaves the different timelines and characters together, creating a rich and emotional tapestry. The vivid descriptions and heartfelt moments made me feel deeply connected to the story. "Wait for Me" is a touching and unforgettable read about the enduring power of love and hope.
Just finished this book.A lovely novel again by Santa.Loved the era it was set it and the supernatural/spirit element.Looking forward to next book by author.
This was my first time reading a book from the author but I am delighted to say I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I look forward to reading more books from the writer in the future
This book really drew me in with the blurb and it didn’t disappoint!
Such beautiful writing for such a beautiful story. The characters were lovely and made the story even more enjoyable. It was a duel timeline which was written very well so that both kept you engaged.
Please read on from the last page though because there’s a note at the end which takes the book to a whole new level in my opinion.
This book will really get you thinking in all the best ways. A lovely enjoyable read I would recommend to others. This was my first book by santa montefiore but it won’t be my last.
As usual in my reviews I will not rehash the plot or publisher's blurb - instead I would recommend that you read this for yourself.
I was initially drawn to this book as I'm a fan of novels that feature multiple timelines, and (however unlikely it might be!) I aso like the idea of reincarnation. This novel blends real historical events with both of the above. The characters are very believable and well written, and the plot is beautifully thought out.
There is a wistful air about the writing that captures the longing felt by many of the characters - memories of happy times past, and lost friends and loved ones. I confess to having a tear in my eye more than a few times, but that's always a sign of good writing (as I am not one to cry much in real life).
Highly recommended if you enjoy gently romantic historical novels with a twist.
Looking forward to reading more by this talented author.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinions my own.
It has been a long time since a book had such an effect on me and various parts even took my breath away! Knowing that Max's story is based on a true story made it even more poignant.
Something about this book connected with me on a spiritual level and I think about it every day, so much so that I have ordered a hardback copy to keep.
Totally amazing and the best book that I have read in a long time.
Max has had this reoccurring dream since childhood but a chance meeting at a dinner party encourages him to delve further into it until he finds the reason behind it.
This is a spiritual adventure of a story; the characters are likable and engaging, as is the plot. It's a great, ' can't put down' read and if you like Montefiore's novels, you'll enjoy this.
What I loved even more, is the note at the back from Montefiore explaining which parts of the novel are truth! Brilliant!
This took a bit of effort to read, not sure about it. I normally like this author. Will try and read again.

This book was an absolute joy to read - what a sweeping and rather unique love story set in the shadows of World War Two. I loved all the characters so much, especially Florence and Rupert. You all know how much I love a duel timeline and this one was done to perfection with just enough time in each timeframe to keep the plot pace but not quite enough to satisfy so you were racing on to find out what happens next. I absolutely steamed through it and didn’t want it to end.
With thanks to the author, @netgalley @simonschusteruk for allowing us to read this one early!

A lovely story which is actually true. Very interesting and quite sad. I love Santa's books and I always enjoy them. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
A multi-timeline novel, Wait For Me takes the reader to Cornwall in 1944, and the story of Rupert Dash, London in 1988 and the story of Max and his recurring nightmares, and then finally Australia in 1995, when Florence receives a strange letter from someone she has never met. How do the three stories intertwine, and will Max and Florence finally understand their lives?
The book covers the themes of past lives and reincarnation. The reader doesn't have to believe in those topics to enjoy the story (I found it left me with many thinking points), there are multiple interesting characters and wonderful descriptions. Beautifully written.
Wait for Me is a dual timeline novel, following the WW2 years in Cornwall and Holland, exploring the love story between Rupert Dash and his beloved wife Florence. When tragedy strikes during the war, she can't quite seem to move on. This story is paralleled with Max, who is about to get married in the late 1980s when he can't shake the feeling he can sense that he has lived before. His fiancee can't deal with the idea and they part company, which sends Max on a real journey of exploration.
I've read most of Santa Montefiore's books and really enjoy her blend of historical fiction with modern themes.
This book really explored the idea of reincarnation and the esoteric. It was quite challenging in some parts, but done quite gently so that no one would feel like they couldn't carry on reading if it clashed with their belief system. I liked the story but a lot of the beliefs content was not really my cup of tea. 3.5 rounded up to 4.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced release copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s all the more enjoyable for being based on a true concept. I liked the way a fictional story has been mixed with a true life experience. It took me a little while to get into it but from then on I was totally hooked. It is very sensitively written and poses some interesting concepts that definitely make you think. I would thoroughly recommend it.
Thanks for the opportunity to read and review. I must admit that I was sceptical about past lives but this book has opened my mind to the possibility.
Loved the way the characters developed in both timelines - an enjoyable read.
Rupert promised he was going to come back. All Florence had to do was wait.
Inspired by a friend’s (Simon) story about reincarnation and the possibility that we may have lived before, author Montefiore has penned an incredible multi timeline (1944, 1988 and 1995) where the thread of Simon’s spiritual adventure is woven throughout. It doesn’t matter whether you believe in past lives or not, this can be simply enjoyed as a wonderful story.
Have you ever wished for or received a ‘sign’ from beyond? A sign that a loved one is thinking of you?
When Florence reads a poem hidden in an old book, she presumes it’s a sign from her husband, Rupert, that he’ll return to her. He’s been missing, presumed dead during the Battle of Arnhem, and she’s devastated. This note gives her the hope to live another day.
Like Montefiore’s friend Simon, Max had terrible nightmares as a kid and his journey/research led him to believe that he is connected to Rupert, Florence’s husband. He remembers a life of someone else from another time and needs confirmation that these memories are valid.
When Ruth receives a letter from a stranger, she’s led to believe it’s the sign she’s been waiting for from Rupert … for over 50 years.
This was a truly captivating read. I began with curiosity and trepidation but finished with an open mind. Montefiore is an auto-read author for me and this book confirms why I love her work so much.
I was gifted this copy by Simon & Schuster UK and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
If you like historical romance with a bit of a spiritual feel, this is the book for you. In the 1940s Florence and her husband are separated by World War 2 having met and married just before hostilities started. An old lady in Australia receives an unusual letter in the 1990s and Max has some strange feelings about past lives in 1988- how do these three strands of plot come together?
I liked the story of Florence’s romance in the war years- it was beautifully described, the carefree pre war life in Cornwall followed by the heartbreak of separation.
Max’s life in the 1980s was also interesting although I’m not sure I was quite as invested in his story and the reasons for his restlessness. Maybe I’m not a believer in what this book purports to be about although I could see it would be a comforting idea for those who have lost people.
As ever in books by this author the characters were well rounded and of course the descriptions of Cornwall were lovely- Santa Montefiore obviously knows the area well.
I found this an enjoyable and compelling read and I was keen to find out how the 3 timelines came together. The ending was pleasant but not particularly unexpected. I would describe this as a moving romantic novel with a slightly unusual twist.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.
The blurb tells everything you need to know about this book. It's emotionally charged, poignant, full of passion and mystery.
I loved Florence and Max, loved how the time slipped and something unexpected can happen.
Another winner by Santa Montefiore, a story that moved me to tears and kept me hooked.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
I’ve read6 many of Santa’s books and enjoyed most but this one was in a different vein. It took an unexpected direction and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was thought provoking on several levels and at its heart, a beautiful love story.
I just reviewed Wait for Me by Santa Montefiore. #WaitforMe #NetGalley
Nobody tugs at the heart strings quite like Santa Montefiore. This is why I always go for this authors work, because you know you’re going to be taken on a journey of mystery and love, every single time.
I am a sucker for these sweeping family sagas over different years! And this is one of them. Santa montefiore is a master at this. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed all her other works. If you like these sort of books yhen this is a must read. #WaitforMe #NetGalley.
