This book brings a fresh and authentic voice to the romance genre, standing out with its unique elements like celiac disease representation and quirky “angry yoga” sessions. As an own voices book, it’s clear that the author’s neurodivergence adds depth and realism to Ziggy’s character, making her journey all the more impactful.
One of the book’s delights is its celebration of books and reading, from private bookstore visits to adorable bookish Halloween costumes. The way Ziggy and Seb bond over their shared love of literature is reminiscent of Jess and Rory’s connection in Gilmore Girls—a literary relationship that readers will adore. Fans of the Bergman Brothers series will appreciate the regular appearances from the rest of the family, with glimpses of how their relationships have evolved. And for those eagerly anticipating Viggo’s story, the next and final instalment in 2024 promises to be a treat, especially for fans of historical romance.
That said, a few aspects felt underdeveloped. Some loose ends, like the Bergman parents’ financial struggles and Seb’s strained relationship with his family, could have been wrapped up more thoroughly. While the slow-burn romance is enjoyable, it teeters on being *too* slow, with a moderate spice level that may not satisfy all readers. Additionally, a few of the romantic monologues towards the end felt overly cheesy.
Overall, If Only You is a heartwarming addition to the Bergman Brothers series. With its relatable characters, unique representation, and bookish charm, it’s an easy recommendation for sports romance fans and anyone who loves a thoughtful, character-driven love story.
This was the sweetest instalment in the series and very slow-burn. No super-spicy scenes until about 95% through but absolutely worth the wait.
Came for the romance in this one and ended up hooked on the character development. Ziggy is the baby of the Bergman family and is treated as such, but with her blossoming career as a professional soccer player she needs them, and the public, to see her as an adult. Sebastian is her brother’s hockey teammate and has a serious image problem due to his problematic behaviour and unhealthy lifestyle. Ziggy proposes that they become fake friends - he can help her seem more mature and she can clean up his image. Fake friendship becomes real friendship becomes friends with benefits becomes head over heels love 😅
My favourite bit - the climatic Bergman A frame chapters 🥰 and is it bad if I say Ren and Frankie?!
What to expect:
- Bi and Pan main characters
- found family
- sports romance
- autism rep
- fake friends to real friends to lovers
- slow burn
- little spicy - just one 🌶️ scene
Perfect for fans of romance that include connotations of sports, this was yet another fun addition Into the series that I truly adore!
This book was a fun read that kept me engaged the entire time, Chloe doesn’t miss with this series, her reads are always a 10/10 for me, they just work. There is something as well that makes you feel so connected and protective of the characters, I love interconnected standalone which is this series just chefs kiss so good
First off, huge fan of the representation in this book. I enjoyed the fun of the fake friend trope, the slow burn, the sports. A solid 4 stars from me
I hereby declare to eternally bow down before Chloe Liese and jump in front of a train for her wonderful character!!!
This book ripped open my chest, put it back together, caressed my cheek, sang me to sleep and I am a mushy pile on the floor. Somehow her autistic women do it for me EVERY SINGLE TIME and I'm not ashamed to admit that.
Ugh, I just had a feeling I would adore this one and adore it I did. I would truly give my life for Sigrid Bergman and Sebastian Gauthier aka the new loves of my life!!!! Too precious *cries into oblivion*
I've said this again but I'll say it again: Ms Liese is a writing whizz and I'm forever in awe. This book was no exception. Oh so beautifully written, the characters were tender, their emotions raw and so vulnerable. I fell for both of them hard and ah I loved it. Just always warms my heart and I need you all to read these books so we can gush about her amazing writing together.
I seriously adore Ms Liese bringing back her sports romances and it was so great to get not only one but two in this book: soccer and hockey all in one. I am sporty through romance books only and this is where I get my small dose of sports education. Honestly, Ziggy and Sebastian made me think I could join them in their games even though I would absolutely get knocked out. They give me strength lol. Anyways, enough nonsense, but I loved the sport in this book and their love of the game was such a wonderful addition to their character development
As always, the diversity in Chloe Liese's books always gets me and this was CHEFS KISS. Not only is their autism rep (which I love), own-voices celiac disease rep (my heart) but also queer bi and pan rep and I could cry forever. SO much love is always poured into these characters and it's too much for my pathetic hopeless romantic heart to handle.
Okay okay. I get it. You want to know about the romance. I'm truly saving the best till last folks because these two BROKE ME INTO PIECES. I was smiling so hard my jaw ached and that is the best kind of pain. Maybe one of the slowest of her slow burns ever? I'm pretty sure I can say that. But she was so slow and it was worth every minute. The angst in this freaking book!!!! Watching these two idiots literally fall head over heels and pretend to be friends for like 70% of this book I was almost screeching. It was a lot to emotionally process but ugh I loved it so much,,,,
I absolutely adore Ziggy to pieces, she is maybe my favourite Bergman? Except Ren. Sidenote: loved seeing him and Frankie in this one too, my children. I have a thing for these redheads man. Anyways, I adore her. And Sebastian was something else. This man!!! OMG. They all need hugs but also slaps across their heads I LOVE THEM. The pining was CHEFS KISS. Spoiler but not really: you are not ready for the bookstore scene. Or the other shortly after. IT'S TOO GOOD I WANT TO CRY!!!!!
Sigrid and Sebastian are my everything, I'm so excited for you all to read this book and weep with me!!!!!
If you're looking for a wonderful slow-burn adult romance filled with wonderful representation, tender characters and the sweetest of love stories with a side of hockey and soccer, you've come to the right place. Chloe Liese is here to steal your heart once more <3<3<3
Okay, so this book has me in a chokehold. I binged the whole thing in two days, it might just be my favourite of the bunch. I absolutely fell in love with Ziggy and Sebastian. And of course, the rest of the Bergmans - this is one of my top series and I recommend it to everyone. This family has my whole heart
From the get go, I knew I was going to love If Only You. As a girl with anxiety, coeliac, a crazy hectic family (not always for the better), everything in this book called to me.
I loved this book mainly for its approach to hard relationships, trusting yourself to do good, to be okay with other people and other situations. The growth that we have to take on just to feel worthy sometimes, and the struggle in healing from that.
Ziggy is an icon to say the least. Her Ziggy Bergman 2.0 project was inspiring, and I truly felt like I was watching a friend brow on her journey, and not just through the pages of fiction. Her strength, her bravery, is so admirable. I think we should all channel our inner Ziggy and stand up for what makes us better and us more comfortable.
Sebastian is my ideal MMC to be honest. There really isn’t much I enjoy better than watching men better themselves emotionally and mentally for the sake of their relationships (romantic and platonic). Sebastian does exactly that and, like with Ziggy, you really see the changes he makes almost from chapter to chapter. How he notices patterns in his behaviour he wants to break.
These two characters are probably two of my favourite ever, across all fiction, for their relatability, their bravery, their compassion and love for each other.
Like a huge comfort blanket, I absolutely loved everything about this book. It is my first by this uathor but it definitely won't be my last
Another Chloe Liese romance, another fantastic read! I had been waiting for Ziggy's book ever since the second Bergman Brothers book and I am definitely very happy with the story we got.
Ziggy is tired of her angelic reputation, her brother's best friend and hockey teammate Sebastian needs to clean up his public image. So they make a pact to be fake-friends, giving Ziggy more of an edgier public persona while showing people there's more to Sebastian than what they've seen in the gossip pages. But then inevitably fake-friendly feelings turn into real romantic feelings.
This book was perfection. Ziggy and Sebastian's relationship evolved from barely being friends to falling for each other at a frustratingly slow pace, but that made the entire evolution all the more genuine. No quick "oh I guess he/she wasn't what I thought after all" excuses to force these two characters together. They both grow individually, with the support from the other person, which then results in them growing closer and closer.
I really enjoyed my time with this book. Safe to say that I'll just automatically read whatever Chloe Liese writes next. I just hope I don't have to wait too long for it.
If Only You - Chloe Liese
My only other experience of this author was listening to another of her books via audio book which I very much enjoyed, but I must admit I think I enjoyed this one even more and I believe that having the physical copy really helped in this, as I was able to take it more at my own pace which really helped build the tension that the writer creates. I really enjoyed both of the main characters Ziggy and Seb and their background stories that led them together, I really look forward to future books from this author and delving back into older books from them too. Thank you very much Netgalley, Random House UK, Cornerstone and Penguin for this e-arc in return for my honest thoughts and opinions.
Oh my goodness, this series, it’s just everything. This book was perfect, in every way. Made me weep and laugh out loud. I can’t wait to reread and reread it!
Chloe Liese has done it again. 🥹 I started this series in 2020 after finding book three on NetGalley and falling head over heels in love. Since then, it’s become a comfort series of mine and I reread it every year or so! Ziggy has been one of my favourite characters from the beginning and seeing her grow in her own book has been amazing.
The representation in these books is always carefully handled and it’s rep we need to see!
Sebastián and Ziggy were the absolute cutest 🤭🤭 Chloe somehow manages to top herself each time so imma always stick beside her.
Love a good fake dating, slow burn, eventual friends who become lovers. Like this was the perfect recipe and was executed amazingly
I am a huge fan of Chloe Liese and the way she tackles neurodivergence. Everyone deserves a love story and this time it's Ziggy. I read this so quickly - I love the Bergmans and the story of Ziggy and Seb was lovely. There are so many layers to their story, the intimacy and kindness shine through. Thanks to Netgalley, I felt very lucky to receive this advanced copy.
Chloe Liese’s romance are very quite and something that digs deep into you skin and tugs at your heart type; basically what every hopeless romantics wants; and I absolutely loved it!!
Gosh this series will be the absolute death of me. I love it so much. If Only You is another installment that Chloe Liese absolutely aced. She has become an instant Autobuy author for me and I do not even know what to say except: perfect, perfect, perfect!
Another great book in the series. I loved how Ziggy went on a journey to advocate for herself and get herself recognised as a grown woman, not infantilised because of her autism. Seb was a compelling (and hot!) love interest and overall a very enjoyable read
These books have received so much attention on BookTok recently so I was excited to give the latest book in this series a go, and I really liked it! I was slightly worried that coming into it, knowing it follows a whole family and that this concerned the youngest, Sigrid, would mean that I couldn't engage with the story, but that wasn't a problem at all. In fact, I think being introduced to this family from the perspective of the youngest sibling was actually a great way to come into it, as it heightened the overly protective natures of the older siblings and how they really viewed Sigrid as a baby, which is what she is hoping to break free from. Sigrid being autistic felt very important, especially as it allowed Sebastian to show his caring nature towards catering to her needs and making sure she always felt comfortable. I loved the two of them together and how Sebastian became part of this huge family that I can't wait to read more about!
4 stars
This was a cute slow burn romance - I appreciated Ziggy and Sebs backstories and their character development
