This book has easy-to-follow steps on how to build a raised bed for beginners. It talks about the benefits of raised bed gardening, the perfect location, tools and materials, soil, when to plant, compost, mulch, and natural fertilizers and more. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This is a good book for gardening in raised beds, but it does not have as much information as you would expect about construction. There is also the lack of photographs. For just the gardening section, this isn't as bad, but the construction section could really use pictures.
I would suggest this more for someone who is already familiar with the topic due to the text-heavy nature of the book.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am a keen gardener, but there's a lot I don't know. I found this book most informative. A recommended read for any green-fingered person.

This book covers the basics, but it seemed more like an outline form rather than in-depth instruction. Some reviewers felt the topic was covered well, but I was unable to gain much from the presentation.

Synopsis: (from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review)
**************************************************************************************************
Become a master raised bed gardener in no time with the easy-to-follow steps outlined in this comprehensive guide. Do you want to start a garden, but you are overwhelmed and are not sure where to even begin?
Are you looking for an easy way to grow your own food at home that doesn't require hours upon hours of upkeep? Do you dream of eating fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and other veggies grown with your own hands, but you worry that you do not have enough space for a garden? If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, you have come to the right place!

The price of everything has been on the rise over the last few years, and produce has been no exception, with the cost of farm produce rising 12.7% in July of 2022, which was a whopping 61.5% increase over the prices of July 2021! What’s more, is that you cannot be sure what chemicals are in the fruits and vegetables you buy from the store. Strawberries and tomatoes, two favourites in most households, have been on the list of the “dirty dozen” fruits and vegetables for the last few years, meaning they have the highest levels of detectable pesticides on them. And buying organic doesn’t mean your produce is free from pesticide residues! The only
way to truly know what is on your food is to grow it yourself, and what better way to get started than with raised bed gardening?
Discover everything you need to get started in this book, including:
● The many benefits of raised bed gardening–not the least being how much your back will thank you
● All the considerations to keep in mind when choosing the perfect location for your raised bed garden
● A comprehensive list of all of the tools and materials you will need to get started on this new journey
● An easy step-by-step guide to building a raised garden bed, with information on how to utilize different materials–like troughs and cinderblocks–to build more!
● Everything you need to know about soil health to keep your plants well-fed and happy
● A guide on when to plant in your raised beds, including all you need to know about hardiness zones
● An entire chapter on companion planting that goes into detail on which plants you should plant together and which should never be in the same raised bed
● How to use compost, mulch, and natural fertilizers to grow the healthiest, hardiest plants around
● How to recognize different diseases and pests so you know exactly how to protect your plants
● Bonus information on two other types of raised bed gardens for when you are ready to level up to the next level of gardening expert
And much more.

Don’t spend another trip to the grocery store, wondering where all your money is going
or what chemicals are on the food you are purchasing. Instead, join the almost 32 million other Americans who grew vegetable gardens in 2019 alone by starting your own raised bed garden today.

Although the description of the book is almost a total synopsis of the contents (and a bullet journal), this is a great book on raised bed gardening that will get you wanting to grow your own veggies and fruits as we all know how expensive they are at the grocery store.. Great instructions and you can even apply the information here if you want to start out smaller in a container or hypertufa.

Already on our shelves and already being checked out.

I won’t be publicly reviewing this book as it’s not one I’d recommend. There are almost no photos and much of the gardening information is incomplete or incorrect. The author clearly loves gardening but there are much better resources.

Loved being able to utilize this garden bed for beginners book as we start gardening this season. The information is a wealth of knowledge and having raised beds already in place, it was so nice to start from a "guide" perspective because last year I just attempted it and didn't realize I even pulled weeds in a raised bed. Yes, you read that correctly, but here's to having a guide and foundation in place for this year and Isabel's book truly was the best place to start. I am excited to report back on the hopeful success we have this year.

While this is a very upbeat and motivating book by an author that clearly loves gardening passionately, it is also very text heavy with very few images or much in the way of graphic design. The focus is on the plants, however, with a very friendly set of instructions and guides on how to grow them (rather than focusing on the construction of the beds). As such, I feel this book is ideal for those who have access to pre-made raised beds from the local nursery or building supply store.

The book breaks down as follows: Why raised bed gardening, Success is in the planning and preparation, Time to build your raised beds, Planting basics, Companion planting, compost/living soil/multi/fertilizer, dealing with common diseases and pests, Other beneficial information. These chapters include everything from companion planting, harvesting (by type of plant), mulching, natural pesticides, soil testing, compositing, seeds or seedlings, when to start planting, types of raised beds.

So yes, there are sections for constructing the beds. But they are all text and the directions can be very vague (e.g no real recommendations on the type of wood). I've seen other books that give precise measurements and tools but this is far more vague. It would also help to have actual photographs of either the steps or the finished products, neither of which are here.

In all, it is friendly and the love and passion for gardening comes through. But it is a text-heavy book that could really use images and illustrations to get the points across and make it truly beginner friendly. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Raised Bed Gardening For Beginners is an invaluable resource. I have been thinking about starting a garden for years. This book has inspired me to finally start my garden and it will hopefully guide me as I move forward this spring.

The book is well-organized and easy to read. The step-by-step instructions will make it easy to get started. The Table of Contents with page numbers will make it easy to use as a reference in the future.. I plan to use drip irrigation that was described in detail in Chapter 2. There is a Wrapping it up section at the end of each chapter that provides a quick summary of what was covered in that chapter.

There are recommendations for where to put your raised bed, best size, how to build, planting basics, soil information, when to plant, watering, companion planting, how to compost, mulch, best organic fertilizers, dealing with pests, when to harvest, options after harvest and winter care,

Written by a gardener from North Carolina, it's interesting to read as a UK gardener. Always good to get an outside perspective on methods. After last years dry summer, we were considering an irrigation system for our raised beds which is covered in this book with lots of thought.
As a gardener every new season is a chance to start again, thank you for the well written inspiration.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The information really covered every aspect of gardening to consider and included helpful tips. The only thing that I felt was missing were more pictures or diagrams. Overall a very helpful book

I used to stink t gardening. It wasn’t me, but rather the local terrain and clay in our soil. I’d given passing thought to biased beds, but really didn’t know where to start. But the taste of those fresh veggies in the Summer was enough to make me reach for this book. I’m glad I did!

It can really seem overwhelming, but this book lays everything out and takes you through how to get there. With clear and easy to follow instructions that cover everything along the way.

I love raised bed gardening, but I am happy to say, I am no longer a beginner. I found this book to have great information regarding all aspects of raised bed gardening. I absolutely love it, and I do not find it to be hard, but reading a guidebook like this is good before you start your journey. You learn a lot, get good tips, and you might even avoid making some mistakes on the way! Great read for the beginner, and still useful for the more advanced level raise bedders as well.

This book provides a good foundation on how to get started with raised bed gardening. It talks a lot about soil quality, crop rotation, watering and companion planting. I would have liked to see more photo and design ideas for the raised beds.

The content and details provided are excellent. The steps are explained simply. I do wish there were more photos. For a visual learner photos are extremely helpful and also help to break up the blocks of words.

I have been involved with raised bed gardening for over ten years and this book is an excellent resource for those getting started and even readers with experience will have takeaways.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for allowing me to review this book.
