This is such a lovely heart warming story and really builds on the relationships established in the first book. That being said you could still read this as a stand alone book in its own right but it’s so much lovelier reading after the first.
I absolutely adored the characters in this story. Mercy gets the ending she truly deserves!
This is such a heart warming story, it kinda links-leads on from He Loves me, He Loves me Not in that Mercy is the best friend of Hollyn our lead in that story, however you don’t need any knowledge at all from this or to have read that, this can totally be read as a stand-alone story , as it really is a our Mercy and Brook.
Mercy is a great character, with a troubled backstory , but she has a lot of good friends and found family around her. River, her roommate, who is Hollyn’s brother was one of my favourites. I am really hoping we get his story soon, really do love him.
But obviously River isn’t our main man, that is Brooks and he really is the perfect man. I’m not sure why any woman would dump him, only women with commitment issues I think, because he’s a good guy, a great dad, gorgeous and has tattoos, what more do you want. Actually the only thing I would have liked, what is only a slight personal criticism is that I would have liked to spend more time with Brook and his little girl, but that’s just me cos they were so cute together.
I really enjoy Aimee’s writing, it’s just lovely and makes it so easy to read and hard to want to put these down, I also love the pure emotion in these books, that when they end I feel all satisfied and gooey, like an emotional marshmallow. If you want a great romantic read, beautiful characters with real emotions and backgrounds, found family, slow burn romance and great friends, this is definitely the book for you and Aimee Brown is definitely an author you need to read.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.
There was a lot going on in this book and I found it a little difficult to keep track of the characters - there are a lot. I've since found out that there is another book in the series but I don't think you would need to read that, but it would help. Pretty heavy in parts with a traumatic childhood at the heart of Mercy's story. Brooks is such a sweetheart with his daughter and Mercy. Even though I found it wasn't for me, I would recommend it.
This is a contemporary romance with music and mystery,
And a heroine I didn't like until I learnt her history.
Then understanding grows and connections, too,
Leaving me hoping her secret dreams will come true.
Brooks Hudson is fed up of being dumped
He's really hit a dreadful slump.
Can being too nice really be such a crime?
He's hoping for better luck next time.
When Mercy Alexander and Brooks eyes meet across the room
Their connection helps alleviate their personal gloom.
Fate keeps bringing them back together once more
Maybe this is a sign they shouldn't ignore?
Get ready for Mercy's childhood to take centre stage,
A situation dire enough to make your blood rage.
Can their relationship survive her past?
Will their romance become something that will last?
A psychic touch and someone to hate
A lovely child and the hand of fate.
All combine to make this a lovely read,
Hopefully the next book that you'll soon need!
A heartwarming story of families and friends
Where support for one another never ends.
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.
Aimee Brown is quickly becoming an auto buy author. I really enjoyed this story. It was great to get to know characters that had been in the last book in more detail and I absolutely loved Mercy! The whole story captivated me and I really didn't know how it was all going to pan out. I liked the mystery around Brooks I didn't anticipate how his story was going to go at first. This book is full of great characters, some laughs and tender moments. A great story and I can't wait to read more by Aimee.
Based on the synopsis I had expected to enjoy this book, but I absolutely loved it! I love it when a book surprises me like this!
After reading this story about Mercy and Brooks I feel like I know them and like I am missing out now that they are no longer in my life.
Mercy was a feisty main character that was dealing with a lot and her way of life was not one that appealed to me at all, but that didn't make me love her any less, it just made me root for her to make changes and open up to love. Brooks was just the perfect book boyfriend. His exterior could have you thinking he was a bad boy, but he was just the sweetest doting dad and alround great guy. Both Aimee and Brooks had a great group of friends and family that I think all deserve their own story, so please keep on writing them Aimee!
Thank you to my partners, Rachel’s Random Resources and NetGalley, and the author, Aimee Brown. I appreciate the gifted e-copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily!
Loved this one! A fun romcom that you don’t want to miss! You can read it on Kindle Unlimited, too!
1. Brooks - So here it is…the day I read a romcom with one of my son’s names as the main male character’s name. Here’s me thanking the heavens that it is closed door romance at its finest!
2. Banter - I love the banter between the characters. It always makes a romcom even better when it makes me laugh out loud while reading it!
3. Foreshadowing - The ultimate “issue” that I saw occurring for Brooks and Mercy was screaming at me from very early on. However, this isn’t your regular ol’ Hallmark romance. I loved the way this romance was written through and through!
4. Friends and Family - Both Brooks and Mercy have a trusting group of friends and family behind them. But with the good, we also see the bad with Mercy. Everything in life isn’t sunshine and roses and Brown has shown us through the eyes of Mercy.
5. Second-Chance Romance - In a sense, we do have a second chance romance at foot here. While things may have been a tad different the first time around 😉
I was thrilled to find out that this is part of a series and I cannot wait to read every character’s story! I love a series where we get the perspective of each character in each new book! Keep ‘em coming, Ms. Brown!
Mercy has sworn off love, but single dad Brooks may be the one to make her change her mind.
I loved this!! two fantastic main characters that I couldn’t help but adore and a great narrative to go with it, which had me laughing out loud in several places. Brown writes a novel that is easy to follow and leaves you with that warm feeling inside.
Several side characters are all just as important and any reader will love them just as much as the main characters. This is my second read by this author and another 5 stars from me. I can’t wait for more by this author.
Another amazing book by Aimee Brown and I can't help but love it.
Mercy, she is amazing, real, relatable, a music prodigy (which had me remembering a Bollywood song titled - Mercy) and I loved her.
Hudson is a single dad. His daughter is adorable and he is so good. Not forgetting to mention is ex-wife, who plays her part (she is good).
All the characters here were lovely. River has a special place and I need his story. The writing and plot was well executed with a smooth pacing.
The story is heartwarming, this has romance with a depth that will leave you feeling so much in the form of hope, love for chosen family, it all shined out. The heavy topics included are portrayed in a manner that will help you understanding more about things.
The author's purpose or rather my interpretation is that every broken soul deserves someone who can shower them with love even if they feel they don't deserve it. Needless to say I loved this story.
I highly recommend this book and all other ones by the author.
LOVE NOTES: AIMEE BROWN.
Brooks and Mercy… just awwww! ❤️❤️❤️
Both so sweet and totally deserving of finding true love.
Despite being sworn off dating and romance, something about Brooks makes Mercy come over all unnecessary.
As for Brooks. He just wants a girl who will accept him for being the utterly nice guy that he truly is.
Mercy is a very real and believable character. She’s been through a lot and you can’t help but feel for her and want her to find the happily ever after that she deserves.
Brooks is a dream. He’s a super single dad and an all round good guy.
Brooks definitely won my heart.
I can’t praise this book enough. It’s beautifully written, has a massive heart and will leave you with all the feels.
If you want a book to wrap you in it’s arms and whisper it’s story tenderly in your ear, you will adore Love Notes.
Absolutely gorgeous!

With thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood Books and Rachel’s Random Resources for a digital arc of this title.
I was in love with this story!!! The two main characters had big things to work to overcome and through the intermingling of their pasts and present life situations they work through them together. I really enjoyed how the author had them look at the true meaning of fate/love at first sight and that it's beautiful example of finding the right person and what it looks like to be with them at the right and wrong time.
Reading I felt like I knew each character so well and that I was almost always in the story with them.
After reading He Loves Me He Loves Me Not I was looking forward to this and it didn't disappoint. This is such an easy read and the well written characters make you root for them from the very start. The chemistry is brilliant and the extra characters and connections are perfectly pitched too. I am eagerly awaiting the next book and new adventures.
4.5⭐
I don't think technically part of a named series, but I suggest reading He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not first because those characters play a role in this installment.
Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, music, detective, tattoos, single dad, fun, slow burn, second chance, no steamage
Brooks & Mercy
Well it seems like I have another single dad that I love. Brooks was so adorable with 6 year old, Alijah. There's just something about fathers and daughters that gets me in the feels.
Mercy was such a fun character despite her traumatic past. Always honest and is just out with whatever comes to her mind. I'm not always fun to be around, but I'm surely honest and sometimes speak before I think so I can relate to her.
Having already whomped it up a few years prior they do know each other intimately, but this time around Brooks is the one that wants to take it slow with the '3 date rule' ~ how refreshing is that? And it's not like they had their dates in quick succession either, they went days and days and maybe a week once without seeing each other like there was no rush and they had the rest of their lives for fate to do its thing.
I love how the author collided their worlds in 2 different ways, plus we have Brooks' interesting ex wife that brings a little pizzazz to their story. All side characters were pretty great, except the one who is not supposed to be and boy was he a doozie.
Overall, I had a fun and delightful time reading this.
Brooks is a single dad who can't seem to find love. Mercy doesn't believe in love. These two have met before and when they seem to keep running into each other, sparks keep flying. Mercy can't figure out why she can't seem to resist him.
This was my second book by Aimee Brown. It didn't hit the spot with me like the first one did. Mercy has a lot of baggage and I know that is why she is avoiding love, but I just couldn't connect with her character. I was actually hoping she would end up with her friend Dylan when I first started the book. I really like the character of Brooks. He was really genuine and had the best interests of his daughter and family at heart.
Even though this book wasn't for me, I would still recommend it to others to try. Aimee Brown is a terrific author and her books are fabulous.
Thank you to NetGalley and BoldWood Books for this advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Mercy Alexander has struggled with the notion of love, having experience a traumatic event in her youth. She needs someone who can restore her faith in men. So, when she meets Brooks Hudson, she isn’t sure why he is so hard to ignore and why she experiences a flutter, every time sees him. However, Brooks can’t understand why he is constantly being dumped, just because he is ‘too nice. He is a doting single father to six-year-old Ali, supportive co-parent with his ex, much-loved friend and respected colleague, not to mention he’s smoking hot. So will these factors be the reason why Mercy leaves him or whether it is enough to make her stay.
This book initially suggested that it was a light-hearted romance, but it was quite at odds from this. The past hurts of the characters, added depth to this story and showed how falling in love with the right person, can change your whole perspective on life. I also enjoyed the relationship that both Mercy and Brooks have with their friends, and it that of Brooks and his ex-wife, which demonstrated that mature adults can have a good relationship despite divorce. An enjoyable read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Aimee Brown is the bestselling romantic comedy author of several books including The Lucky Dress. She’s an Oregon native, now living in a tiny town in cold Montana and sets her books in Portland. Previously published by Aria, her new series for Boldwood is full of love and laughter and real-life issues. The first book will be published in January 2023.
After having reviewed The Lucky Dress, The Last Dance, and Love Me Like You Do by Aimee Brown, I was really pleased to find Love Notes, as I can never resist an Aimee Brown novel.
Brooks is a great father to Ali and it was great to witness this.
The pace was excellent, as it always is with Aimee Brown’s books.
Thanks to Aimee Brown, Boldwood Books and Rachels’ Random Resources for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
4 stars
To be honest, I was skeptical of this one. I'm generally not a fan of the single dad trope but this one did not disappoint me. I was captivated. Also, the cover is gorgeous! loved it and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a cute and fun romance.
Love Notes by Aimee Brown 🎶
This was the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it! It was a lot more sweet and tender than I thought it was going to be based on the description. And while this is a romance, it also has a lot of focus on character growth for both the main characters, Mercy and Brooks. It was a super tender book as they are both working through their own demons and it's so cute seeing them get to know each other.
Brooks was the perfect guy and I have no idea how women kept dumping him instead of locking him down. He's such a cute girl dad and cares about and is just an overall protective (in the best way) guy for those he loves.
Mercy is someone who doesn't believe in love and when she starts to get butterflies around Brooks it's so funny how she is like "uh yeah nope, what the heck is this?" She's a very real feeling character. She has plenty of good reasons to feel the way she does about falling in love given her childhood but she also has the sweetest found family that supports her.
I definitely recommend checking trigger warnings before reading this one!
"I like you way more than I expected to, and every time I look at you, that grows a little more."
Tropes:
- single dad
- tattooed hero
- snarky and lovable heroine
- found family dynamics
- closed door
dual POV

0.5/5 spice level 🌶
This was such a cute and easy read. I loved the concept of having a little mystery at the beginning with the MC dad. Overall I really enjoyed this story. The only thing for me was I thought the ending was a little abrupt and I wanted more.
This was a heartfelt yet fun second chance at love romance between two older characters who don't have much faith in finding their HEAs. I loved that both MCs are musicians (one a professional and the other something they do for fun). There's a lot of family baggage (murderer father, single dad) but also lots of great secondary characters who keep things lighter. Good on audio too and definitely one I'd recommend. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
