“Love Notes” by Aimee Brown is a cute and romantic story.
Mercy Alexanders does not believe in love. She knows that love only hurts. Although, when she sees Brooks Hudson, something in her changes. She has a very hard time passing him by. Also, she is preparing weddings and knowing exactly how not to be married.
The characters seem realistic and could have been taken out from the real world. They stumble over their words, get nervous and have lots of emotions. Perfectly written!
This is a story about fate. It is a story of true love. And this is a heart-warming story. Also, there are some humorous parts of the story as well.
If you like a sweet, cute and romantic story with lots of humor, “Love Notes” by Aimee Brown is the perfect novel for you to read.
I couldn't put this book down. I absolutely fell in love with Mercy and Brooks and it was great to meet up with friends from the first book. Aimee Brown writes realistic people so well - they're flawed and complex and a mass of contradictions. I loved this story and all the threads that came together for these two.
Love Notes was a fun, yet very emotional, romantic comedy. Mercy was a fantastic character - a beautiful, if somewhat wounded, soul who has definitely built up walls to prevent herself from getting hurt again. Brooks is definitely swoon-worthy - is a loving father, has a tougher exterior with a risk-taking job, plenty of tattoos, and can play guitar - but hasn't had the best luck with relationships. Loved the cast of supporting characters - provided plenty of entertainment. It was a little slow to start for me overall. And I wanted more scenes with Ali - she was adorable and I loved her interactions with both Brooks and Mercy. Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the chance to read this novel.
This is definitely a nice easy romcom read! It's a slow burn but so captivating because of how relatable it is. Captures you from the start and gets you in all the feels!! Oh, and let's not forget the sexual tension it HOT!!!! highly recommend this book!!
I devoured this book. I loved the previous book (HLMHLMN) and was really excited for Mercy's book. It was really fun and handled some heavy topics really well. The communication between the main characters was perfection and there were no petty, immature conflicts that took away from the story. The chemistry was so evident and you could tell these two belonged together after their first interaction. All the side characters were great, and I really hope we get a River book soon. Overall, a great second installment in a series I've very much enjoyed so far!
I loved He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not but this is even better! Mercy was a great, and different, protagonist. The dynamic between the two main characters just felt so pitch perfect, and a bit alternative to the usual romance novels. I loved the mix of family drama and romance. Also, the whole fate element was just 🥰 It was also lovely to briefly return to Dax and Hollyn as well. Can’t wait for the next book in this (kind of) series!
I really think the cover does Brooks dirty though - he sounds super hot?!
I’m one great big sighing, swooning, grinning mess after reading Love Notes! Was it fate, luck, timing, or something else that brought Brooks and Mercy together? It could be any of those things, but it’s also because Mercy is a wounded soul, who isn’t sure if she is capable of loving someone, or if she’s someone that could be loved by another. And Brooks is so undoubtedly the person who can love, support, and protect her, the person who will always show up for her. Sure there were some walls to climb, but their honesty and willingness to see the real person in front of them warmed every inch of my heart. Lots of raw emotion and pain in this book, all of which is tempered by the love and care that oozes off the page.
Mercy is a survivor of childhood trauma that impacts her view on love and relationships. Brooks is a divorced father who has shared custody with a unique ex-wife. He wants to be in a stable relationship but keeps getting dumped. She doesn't believe in relationships. Mercy and Brooks lives intertwine in many ways could it be fate?

Thank you to netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.
I've been wanting a nice easy romcom type read for a while and this book certainly delivered. From the very beginning the characters were easy to understand and so likeable.
Mercy, the main character, had her many demons but you could see from the beginning she had so many layers that just required the right person to get through them.
Brooks was the man everyone wanted but no one kept, Mr perfect who just wanted to love and protect someone.
Bringing these two together and adding together all of their weird friends and families made the perfect blend of romance with a very slight edge about it.
For me this was an easy read, one that made me smile throughout and a story I couldn't put down.
I was honestly expecting a bit more from this book. It was average and it was still cute, but not a wow factor.
Thank you to Net Galley & Boldwood publishing for an ARC of this sweet love story!!
I was so excited to continue reading about this friend group. This story we follow Mercy (Hollyns best friend) and her journey of healing and love. While she’s in the midst of her healing journey, fate steps in and redelivers a past fling. While developing a relationship, she is also dealing with demons from her past surfacing again.
The love story of Mercy & Brooks would definitely be described as a slow burn, but it was everythingggggg!
I was also so excited to see all of our favorite characters including Penny, Hollyn, Dax, and River in the book. And to find out that we will get to read Rivers story next!!
This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites!!!
This was my first Aimee Brown book but won’t be my last. Really enjoyed he writing style and the cast of characters. This is Brooks and Mercy’s story. Brooks is a divorced single father that seems to keep being dumped because he is too nice. Mercy is anti love because of a traumatic past. Fate brings them together over and over so they decide to date and get to know each other. They both work through some things to be together. Really enjoyed this story.
I enjoyed this story that was full of building tension. Mercy was a very open character with no filter! The narrative from both Brooks and Mercy’s perspectives worked well. The text did feel overly dialogue heavy though focusing too much on the hold ups. I did like the way Mercy overcame childhood adversity and made herself into a talented and successful musician.
This book started off cute and then sort of rushed through the characters. I feel like I didn't really know them, so it was hard to root for them...
Also - this is a negative for me - the main character had a kid and those just don't interest me in a story. Even though his kid was at least sweet.
Thank you to Net Galley for providing me with this book to review.

Mercy feels like she can never truly love anyone after her traumatic childhood. But when she runs into an old hook up of hers--Brooks--, she starts feeling butterflies she can't seem to get rid of.
I'm official Aimee Brown fan girl. This book takes place in the same world as her last one (He Loves Me He Love Me Not--which if you haven't read it, get on it!). Mercy and Brooks give ME butterflies. They are fast talking, sarcastic soulmates that I will never get over. I loved this book because it was a story of them coming together without crazy miscommunications or third act break ups. Plus, the cast of characters are so spot on! I adore all of them and can't wait to read more about them in this world!
Two thumbs straight up!
I will just say that I smiled the whole time, I am totally in love with this couple, please tell me how I can teach my boyfriend to be more like Brooks.
I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in the "right person at the wrong time," and this book was the perfect example of that.
Mercy has a complicated past that has left her traumatized and unable to love and be loved, or so she is convinced. Brooks is a wonderful single dad, with a complicated job and a series of breakups that were never his decision.
Fate seems to be in their favor, making it almost impossible to ignore the chemistry between the two of them
This is an example of a well-written romance, in that we don't just have a cute, heart-warming love story, but we have several topics, even uncomfortable ones, explored with the right depth required by this genre.
This was the first book I read by Aimee Brown, but I will definitely go on to read more.
There’s one sure fire way of steering clear of heartbreak, and that’s not to get your heart involved in the first place. So what is that irritating flutter she feels every time she sees Brooks Hudson, and why is she finding him so hard to ignore?
Mercy is in serious need of someone to restore her faith in men, and Brooks needs a girl he likes to stick around long enough for him to believe in love again. But when Mercy’s past threatens to remind her of everything she’s scared of, will love be enough to save the day?
Mercy and Brooks were a couple that I could not look away from and could not put down. Seeing their love story play out throughout this book was a wonderfully crafted story of trust and love. Watching Mercy go from never experiencing true dating or feelings to loving Brooks so hard was truly amazing.
I thought this book was very well written and was an easy read. Certain parts of their story felt a little too easy considering Mercy’s past, but overall a great book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
This is such a brilliant love story. Such a fun read that your so wrapped in the story, you don't want the book to end.
Love Notes is the story of Mercy as she navigates past traumas to take a chance at opening her heart to love.
Mercy has had a difficult start to life. Her trauma effects every aspect of her life except her music. She is a talented musician who runs a business with her friend, Dylan. This aspect of her life is going well. But personally, she has never allowed anyone to ever get close to her heart.
She will spend a few hours with someone, but no-strings attached is as far as it goes. Then she walks into a bar and sees a man she recognizes. A man she had thing with years ago, but is now giving her this weird feeling. Their eyes stay hooked on each other, but they keep missing one another. As Brooks's ex-wife confirms, fate is on Mercy and Brooks's side. Or will past trauma ruin everything.
This story was enthralling, heart wrenching, and wonderful. I cannot recommend this story of personal growth and maturity more!
'Love Notes' is about Mercy and Brooks. Mercy is someone struggling a lot due to her childhood trauma (and it’s a lot). Brooks is a single father.
The story is amazing, but not what I expected. It’s not a rom-com. It’s heavy, but wonderful. Mercy is a beautiful character and I loved her growth. Brooks is the perfect nice guy and couldn’t be more perfect, but he also feel real; even his ex-wife is amazing, as all the other characters.
The romance is realistic, not toxic and it just makes sense. You can feel their chemistry in every word. There’s no spice, but tbh I didn’t need it. Their relationship was enough.
The only thing missing, in my opinion, was more Ali. I wanted more moments with Brooks’ daughter, I wanted to see her relationship with Mercy.
Thank you Netgalley, Boldwood Books and Aimee Brown for giving this ARC in exchange for my review!
