This one was not a winner for me.

The idea was fantastic, and I was expecting something original in the spirit of maybe Heathers, but not as gruesome? Instead, I got something really out there, and while that was unique, the whole magic notebook thing threw me, and never really resolved itself. As well, I couldn't relate to or even really sympathize with even one character, with the exception of (barely mentioned) Dylan, Sophia's disabled brother. If you don't care what happens to them, there goes the whole book.

Another major thing that unsettled me, and prevented me from getting into the novel, was the outdated way social media, phrasing, and even simple texting were used. If the novel had been written ten or even twenty years ago, I'd be like sure, I'll give them a break because things were different then. But this was supposed to be contemporary. I kept stopping and thinking "well, no high schooler would text/say that". And even when something very "now" was said, it didn't ring true.

I finished the book, but I still have so many questions. Not in an "oh, there must be a sequel coming" way, but in a "how could you forget to finish out this? and that? and what about Dylan?" kind of way. Ugh.

I was hooked from the beginning. I loved the structure of the book, it made it easy to follow even with the timeline and many characters. It was a fun read!

This was a Quick and entertaining audiobook. I enjoyed the story from beginning to end. Will be looking for more from this author in the future.

I didn’t really like the style of writing in this book and found the narration hard to relate to. I doing the storyline confusing and it jumped about far too much. Is not one I would recommend.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook. All opinions are 100% my own.

The actual story of this audiobook was okay, but I felt like it didn’t work in the audiobook format. There was a chapter which was seemed to be a comic strip, which was poorly described in the audiobook format.

The different narrators for the different character POVs were great.

Audiobook Arc provided in exchange for an honest review - thank you!

I really enjoyed this audiobook.
It is multi POV, with plenty of different voices for the characters. It was fun and interesting and had lots of twists and turns, with a dash of magic. I absolutely burned through this to see what happened at the end! I think I would have equally enjoyed reading the book, but the audiobook was excellent.

This was a fun twisty turny thriller laced with some magic and mystery. The kids are truly awful in the best possible way. The multiple pov gave the novel a docu drama or podcast type feel. The multiple narrators done a great job and made for a really great ya novel.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to listen to this audio book in return for an honest review.

I honestly had no clue where this mystery was going to lead me. It wasn’t until the end of the book that I said, “Ah-ha!”

This might be kind of a spoiler alert so stop reading if you don’t want to know anything and want to be surprised (chuckle). I was thinking at first that this was a straight up mystery and then Jennifer Alsever threw in a couple other genres and I was honestly scratching my head. I didn’t know who I was going to connect with because everyone seems kind of messed up (chuckle).

I didn’t really clue in until about two-thirds of the way into the book. Then I was like “damn”. Right after it ended, I actually started the whole story again and I could see the crumbs so clearly! (chuckle)

There are a lot of narrators for Burying Eva Flores: Moira Todd, Gail Shalan, Michael Gallagher, Eleanor McCormick, Whitney Dykhouse, Amy McFadden, and Zac Aleman.
There are a lot of characters so this really helped in separating the roles. The story moves fast and with different tones to keep you interested.

Flores is a good mystery and I liked the additional genres thrown in.

I quite enjoyed this. I can see why it was recommended to fans of AGGGTM, however I didn’t feel it could really compete. The ending in particular really disappointed me, there were some parts I thought were tied up nicely but overall the end was just too unrealistic. I did like the modern feel with the influencer and I liked the use of multiple narrators.

I loved the layout of this book with the multi-cast narration added an extra layer of interest for me as everyone is slightly an unreliable narrator. It did take me a little while to get into and understand what was going on but once I had I felt the plot moved at a good pace and I really enjoyed it. The thing I liked the most was that both Eva and Sophia are grey characters there's no clear "good guy" and "bad guy" so you can make your own decisions on what you think of the characters instead of being guided by the author. I also really liked the magical twist, it was a nice surprise and fit well into the plot. I do think some of the characters came off as younger than 17, especially with some of their revenge plot ideas but I think that would be my only criticism and I would recommend.

I may have been a ball of anxiety while listening to this, but I have to admit that it was masterfully done. Alsever knows how to write young adult cruelty, especially surrounding the world of TicTok, effectively. I was sick to my stomach from the choices her characters made and was unable to listen for to long at a time or it would affect my mood. The multi-cast narration was a fun addition, even if some of the actors could have collaborated a bit better on character voices.
This is an excellent choice for lovers of social thrillers surrounding young adult life.

Thank you Jennifer Alsever, NetGalley, and BooksGoSocial Audio for my audio advanced review copy. My opinions are my own.

Burying Eva Flores is out on March 14th, 2023.

Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook but sadly it was a DNF for me. It felt similar to the show on free form called “cruel sunmer” but not executed as well. I always feel horrible when I DNF and if I ever give this another shot I will come back to review what I finish.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for providing me with a free digital copy in exchange for my honest rating and review.

This book was too disjointed to really enjoy it. The characters developed in ways that weren’t believable. The way certain social media concepts were described leads me to believe the author has never actually used TikTok. To me this book was just trying to do too much and be too much and it landed flat. I did, however, enjoy the production quality of the audiobook!

I was so excited to read this after I read the description and the storyline was compared to Karen M McManus books. I didn’t look closely at the genres, and I should have. This book is based closely on fantasy — not thrillers/mysteries like I had thought. Yes, there is a mystery throughout the storyline, but it is all based on a magical book. I didn’t love the fantasy elements, and I also was off-put by Eva’s Dad’s character. Not my favorite book, and I would not compare it to Karen M Mcmanus’ style of writing.

2.5 stars. Thank you to the the publisher and NetGalley for an audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Eva Flores, a TikTok famous teen is missing and the police's prime suspect is Sophie, a fellow student who despises her. The story is told in in differing formats - multiple POVs including Sophie and Eva, police interviews, texts and news articles. An additional fantasy-ish element is introduced at some point - a notebook that seems to make the author's story come true. I did not find this plot point particularly compelling.

I didn't find this book t be very original -recently read a different YA book with similar structure- or particularly exciting. I am a fan of both Holly Jackson and Karen M. McManus, and I disagree with comparisons to those authors' books.

I did however, think that the narrators were very good and helped distinguish between characters.

Sophie absolutely hates Eva Flores, the TikTok famous girl who has moved to town. When Ava disappears, everyone thinks Sophie killed her. But her friends know about the secret journal that changed everything.

First of all, the narration was great! I liked the cast of characters as well as the format. The timeline jumps from current case files and interviews back to before the incident. However, I found most of the characters unlikeable (except Sophie's brother). The teenage drama was a bit much for me, and when the magic notebook came into play, I was like huh?! I did not like the Sophie/Manny aspect (ew) and there were a few plot holes in the ending. I was hoping for it to be a little more like AGGGTM...BUT I do think this might be well suited for a YA reader!

Thank you, NetGalley for this audiobook in exchange for my review!

This is a hard review to write because I honestly don’t know how I feel about it.

Had everything with the been introduced earlier I might have accepted it earlier but it was your basic realistic YA book until then and then all of a sudden it felt like a different book.

The multiple narrators were very distracting. This whole thing could have been done with one narrator.

This story was definitely different and at times it had me on the edge of my seat but then I would become so confused. There’s multiple Povs as well as interviews, which made it interesting but sometimes just confused the hell out of me because I had no idea where this character came from or who they were. Overall it was a fun book to listen to.

Burying Eva Flores was gifted to me by the publisher and netgalley in exchange, for my honest review.

In the story, we’re following Eva Flores and Sophia in the past, and also in the present. Eva Florez somehow managed to disappear off the face of the Earth, and the number one suspect is Sophia. They used to be friends, best friends until something went awry, and now they are enemies. This makes Sofia, the number one target in The police are looking into her disappearance.

The story is told in multiple different facets. We have police interviews. We have articles, and we have perspectives from both girls telling their sides of the story.

Overall, I enjoy this book I thought that it was very much away, but I like some of the teams that I brought up specifically how we treat other people when we don’t know what’s going on in their personal lives, creating a face for the world to see, doesn’t always equate to what’s actually happening behind closed doors.

This wasn’t new or super original, but I did like the story, and I found myself connecting with certain characters more than others. I listen to this book via audio, and I think that was the way to go. It kept my attention, and I blew through the book in less than a day.

I didn't love or hate this book, it was just okay - which makes me sad because I thought it sounded amazing. I think maybe the magic journal threw me for a loop and it just fell flat for me.

Also, I normally love full cast narration, however this one I felt like jumped around a bunch and was a little confusing to follow.
