This was a nice easy read, and can I just say that it would also be my ideal job!! I found that I quickly fell in love with the sad old book store the same as our main character and couldn't read it quickly enough to see if her and Jack managed to turn it around. A really nice summer read or just a read to get you in that summer mood!
Set in a beautiful location, this feelgood tale is of a couple running a bookshop together and getting to know each other. The title does not really reflect the story, but a nice little holiday read
Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy. The idea of this book and the name suggested something a little different to what the story is. Clare and Jack weren't really rivals. They worked together pretty much all the way through the book. It was alright but I honestly didn't feel the spark between the main characters at all which was a shame. Nevertheless, an easy and light read.
This is a perfect summer/holiday/beach read. Meet Jack and Clare. Both strangers brought together to run a bookshop for three months and share the flat above it. Strangers to lovers? Enemies to lovers? This duo works together to bring this bookshop back to life, busy, successful, and bring the money in. But they soon find out a secret that the owner is planning on selling. NOOO. Surely these two can change that? Both are bookworms with different love of genres. They make a great team. This is an uplifting, romantic, and full of books read with even a famous author appearance set beside the sea. I enjoyed every page. Loved it all. Highly recommend. It is a beautiful ending for our main characters. Heartwarming. A well-deserved four stars from me.
A really great story with lots to offer keeping you enthralled from start to finish. I found this book really hard to put down!
I read Beach Rivals – a rom-com about a beachside bookshop in Bali, so many Bs – on a beach. Troon, not Bali, but it'll do. This was a good rom-com to read on the beach, in that I could still focus on the pretty simple storyline when surrounded by teenagers spraying themselves with water guns and dogs sprinting across the sand. It contained no cringe metaphors and no annoying angst, which is a real bonus, and it definitely made me want to escape to Bali. I found the main plotline, about rescuing a bookshop, to be a little too dramatic and the detail on the protagonist Clare's previous travels was so lacking, but those were minor complaints. All in all, a pretty decent rom-com which would be great to read on holiday!
Unfortunately this one just did not work for me.
I couldn’t gel with either of the main characters, at 74% apart from one kiss there’s barely anything between them. Also it’s meant to be rivals but again, not really happening.
Sorry just way too slow and stilted for me.
A very cute summer read. I had so much fun reading this. The banter, and chemistry had me swooning. Also, loved that ending too!!
Beach Rivals is a rom com in vacation mood. Claire is a girl who is still figuring out what she wants from life. She is looking for a way out of her monotone life where she leaves with her parents and works at place she hates. When she gets a chance to work at beach bookstore in Bali she takes it. When she thinks everything is going to be perfect during her stay, she meets another bookseller with whom she’s going to spend her time on the beach… Jack is a grumpy smart ass who thinks his own ideas to promote bookstore are much better than others. And maybe Claire would’ve ignored him if they were not put in the same appartement for the rest of their contract…
I enjoyed this novel because it not only focused on her love and relationship with Jack but at the same time it left space for her own goals and internal change. The development of Claire and Jack’s relationship was a slooow burn. I liked it but it should have happened much earlier, because it gave me impression that they didn’t care about each others problems. They didn’t have any compassion or interest in asking what’s going on and that bothered me for a big part of the book. Also, since the action takes place on Bali, I wouldn’t mind to have more activities related to this place. Otherwise most of the plot could have happened in any bookstore on any beach. I kind of lacked this uniqueness on Bali.
I recommend the novel for summer read, it’s fun and the characters are well developed.
This book was good and I enjoyed it. I loved the storyline and the fact it was based in a book shop. Watching the characters grow through the book was lovely and well worth it. The characters were fresh and relatable.
What I didn't get so much was the name of the book and the rivalry between the main characters. I expected alot more rivalry in the book.
But I enjoyed it and would recommend
Beach Rivals by Georgie Tilney is the perfect summer read.
Her writing is crisp and funny, the characters are fully engaging, and the story is delightful.
I enjoyed escaping to Bali with with these characters.
A slow-burn enemies-to-lovers rom-com and a sweet little story that enjoyed diving into. This was heartwarming, cute, and a treat to read.

Thank You NetGalley, Random House UK, Transworld Publishers & Penguin for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
This is the kind of book i imagine myself escaping for the summer, however I did not feel the chemistry. And when I cannot feel the romantic chemistry between the hero and heroine, well there's not much left to be had. I do not feel like we really got to know them, especially the hero. The setting was beautiful in Bali... but the bookstore felt like it could've been anywhere. I do not feel like I've travelled to Bali.. know what I mean?
Sadly, this one was not for me.
I read this when I went away and it was great! Funny and able to keep my interest the whole way so much so I read it in one go! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for early access to this book.
Claire after getting sacked she moves Surry, to the other side of the world, to run a bookshop in Bali."your biggest responsibility to read as many books as you can so you can recommend them to people'.
Will lve in little flat behind bookshop for just three months.
What she didn't know was that she had to share this responsibility with Jack. Their relationship grows throughout the novel.Jack an American good looking man but 'gets under her skin' and even goes as far as to call him an uptight and a dickhead' but can they learn to work together?
Adam is the owner of the bookshop and wife Celestina, call him if there's any problems, but he seems so unconcerned about the two new people running his shop.
'In the shop books were 'seemly put where they would fit... no best sellers or new realises'. Claire want to rearrange it all'. She could make the shop work and look better.
Where as Jack wants to focus on the finances.
Adam is now retired looks after the shop and is married to Celestial who is a published author.
But why does he not care about the bookshop
When they want to save the shop, but is it to late.
Toby goes bali every year with his friends for a month, all now 18 therefore celebrating their end of high school. Take Claire to interning parts of the island doing activities each day off she gets. But knows it is just a hoilday fling.
We meet other characters along they way, such as Lina, Joyo, Simone and Ben. They all help add depth to the novel.

Watch as Clare and Jack figure out a way to work together to make the bookshop successful again.
Review:
This is any book lovers perfect read. Stunning location: tick; handsome coworker: tick; books, books and more
Books; double tick.
I really enjoyed this lighthearted, summer read. With rivals to lovers, grumpy sunshine and forced proximity, what more could anyone want?
Enjoyable book - now I want a bookshop (an ongoing thought tbh!)
A great summer read and easy to read too. Quickly paced and finished within a day.
Thanks to Netgalley and Transworld Digital for a review copy of this book.
Clare is a young Englishwoman who after many tries with different jobs somehow hasn’t been able to get her life on track until she answers a job ad for someone to work at a bookshop on the beach at Bali. Seizing the opportunity she arrives to find that she is sharing the job and a flat with a handsome American guy, Jack, whose life seems a bit too ordered for her liking. Forced to make the best of it Clare struggles to find compromises and approaches to make the job and her unavoidable relationship with Jack work. The process both challenges her and forces her to understand more about herself, what she wants from life and also the choices of others. A pleasant read, that has a bit of local colour, eccentric characters and solid main characters, that though labelled a romantic comedy is more warm hearted than funny.
For a switch off read, this book is perfect and as a huge fan of quirky bookshops I wanted to be right there in the thick of it. Some scenes describing the local area were enticing...and the 'secret' restaurant.
I wanted to know more about the time Clare spent with Toby and the conflict that would cause her.
The characters each go through some personal shift and ride a rollercoaster of emotions. Insecurity through to anger, despair to love and lost to found.
I read the book in one go and the feel-good factor didn't disappoint. An easy read for seekers of happy endings,
What could go wrong with two rivals in a tropical location! Loved the destination of Bali and the essence of the story! A perfect beach read!
MY ONLY WARNING IS AFTER READING THIS BOOK YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY WANT TO GIVE UP EVERYTHING TO GO RUN A CHARMING BOOKSTORE IN BALI (A SEEMINGLY ABRUPT MAN WITH NICE FOREARMS WOULD BE A NICE BONUS)
