Jessie fell in love with Elliot who is her twin brothers Isaac's best friend. Isaac also loves Jessie. When they finally kiss they decide to keep it a secret from her brother as they don't think he will approve.
On the way home from a party Elliot is involved in a car accident leaving him with a brain injury. Jessie believes it's all her fault and leaves.
Years later due to a big change in circumstances she has to go home where she is offered a room in a shared house with Isaac which will suit her just fine until she finds out Elliot also lives there. Can she learn to accept what happens or will she flee again ?
Loved it
Sweet story of Jessie, who returns to her hometown for work and ends up living with her twin brother and his two housemates, Arthur, the local funeral director and Elliott.
Elliott, Jessie and Jessie’s twin Isaac were the best of friends at school but on the night Jessie and Elliott admit their feelings for each other, Elliott is involved in an accident leaving with a permanent brain injury.
Once Jessie is home, she builds new bonds and rebuilds old ones.
Jessie’s job at ‘The Barn’, a wedding venue that’s run as a community centre for the town’s elderly during the week, becomes more than just a temp role, reminding her of who she is and where she excels.
But Elliott, Elliott is just as wonderful as Jessie remembers but she’s living with an awful guilt that’s holding her back from getting too close to him again….
Sweet but not fluffy, this story deals with some challenging issues of loneliness, disability, discrimination, friendships and finding yourself again,
I enjoyed it, it’s definitely one for a chilly afternoon, curled up in the warm with a brew.
If I have one criticism it’s that there are perhaps too many different threads and they don’t all get the space they deserve.
Very light read. Easy-breezy and filled with characters I could relate to and resonate with, Perfect to curl up with on a sunny summer day! Will look forward to more of the author's works.
I was hooked from the start. Finished in two days, I couldn’t put it down. Jessica Brown left home after a terrible accident she feels responsible for left her high school sweetheart with a disability. Faced with no home after her boyfriend goes on a journey of self discovery she now has to move back to her hometown with her twin brother and housemates. Coming home after alot of bad choices is hard but facing the guilt from her past is even harder. Unbeknown to her Elliot also lives there. The guilt is making her daily life full of heartache and being in close proximity with him stirs up feelings she had buried away. There was so much good in this story specially the team that Elliot helps coach just wait till you read it. Get ready to laugh, cry & watch these characters grow as she helps them with the Boys to Men project. Such a heartwarming story that pulled on my heart strings as they learned to heal.
Always On My Mind is a funny, heartfelt contemporary romance perfect for anyone who likes a cosy read. It’s also the first book I’ve read by Beth Moran, but it definitely won’t be my last.
After returning home to live with her twin brother Isaac and his two best friends Arthur and Elliot, Jessie is forced to confront her past, her present, and her future, all while trying to forge a new life for herself. Things are complicated from the get-go, and it’s only with the help of her family and a new job that she starts to untangle herself, letting old ghosts rest and new opportunities open her eyes to what she’s been missing.
This book is a light, uplifting story that also deals with more serious topics such as guilt and disability. A good dose of humour balances everything out, and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the elderly people that Jessie finds herself charged with. I love older people and their fascinating lives, and it was great to see them take centre stage.
The cast of quirky characters is what makes Always On My Mind so entertaining, not to mention the lovely Elliot and his history with Jessie. Their relationship builds really well, and I enjoyed seeing them slowly help each other face their demons. I’d have liked to have seen more of their romance as it progressed further, but maybe that means there’s room for a sequel one day.
I really liked this book, and it’s given me another author to add to my auto-read list. I love a small town romance, and that’s exactly what I got from Always On My Mind — what more could I ask for?!
Well this book was a little treat. I wasn’t sure what to pick up so I selected a random book from my NetGalley shelf and I’m so glad it was this one. I loved it from the start and completely devoured the book in a few days. I adored the characters and the storyline and whilst some parts were slightly predictable I loved it. Would highly recommend and now I’m off to look at the authors backlist
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Jessie left home when she was eighteen as she held herself responsible for the way the life changed of the person she loved.
As she never stopped blaming herself, throughout her life, she made some wrong decisions, thinking that she can’t be happy.
But now, she’s back in her home village as her current situation has changed.
Jessie finds herself living in the house of Elliot, the person she loved. Her twin brother Isaac and Arthur also live in the house.
Jessie still carries the guilt, has to find a way to live in the house and have to see Elliot all the time.
We meet the other people in her village, each one different and some funny, but relatable.
Will Jessie be able to get over her guilt, and be happy again with help from her family and Elliot?
I recommend this book.
An entertaining read that mixes romance, fun characters, and silly scenarios. This is the story of Jessie and Elliot, who get a second chance at love after they fell in love in high school but were separated by an accident that left Elliot with a brain injury affecting his memory. The story is sweet and heartwarming, but it also deals with some heavy topics, such as guilt and forgiveness. Beth Moran handles these themes with sensitivity, making the story all the more enjoyable.
Of course I found myself rooting for Jessie and Elliot from the beginning. However, this is a super slow burn... and I wished there were more interactions between the two. I also felt like they could have talked earlier in the story, which could have given us those interactions. But that's just me. The supporting characters, especially the flat mates and the Outlaws, added that extra layer of humor and warmth to the story. Moran did a great job of bringing them to life and making them feel like real and unique people. Overall, an entertaining rom com.
This was a really great book. An amazing story, with just the right amount of hurt and heartbreak. It is a very cute story with a lot of great characters and I loved Jessie's character development throughout the book.
It is definitely a book I would recommend for anyone loving a cute second chance romance!
A lovely heart warming read. A high school tragedy and turning your tragedy into a purpose help in making this book such a success. The characters are relatable and funny how they approach their dating skills. Thank you Net Galley for the ARC.
It is a really heartwarming read that puts a smile on your face. It is funny, but has its very touching moments.
There is a motley crew of characters from the ages of under nine of the inclusive football team to the nearly a hundred with the group of "The Outlaws" at the day care centre.
I loved nearly every one of them - when you read it, you'll guess who the couple of "villains" are whom I could not stand...
I loved the loving relationships between the people - not only between the lovers, but also between Jessie and her parents, twin brother and friends.
All in all: it is a real feel-good book. I can recommend it to everyone.
I have to admit that it is tough to like or even identify with Jessie due to her self deprecating attitude. Yes, what she experienced at prom is horrible, but she was not the driver nor could she have prevented it. Her constant bursting into tears and blaming herself as to why she couldn't hold a job and amassed a large amount of debt is simply immature. It was good she got a second chance to live with her brother and his friends as well as a humorous job with her parents. I enjoyed the Boys to Men experience with Arthur, Isaac and Elliott. It was only at the end did she finally grow up and know her own self worth.
This was such an enjoyable read. It had me smiling at some parts then making me cry at others.
I loved all the characters especially the quirky flat mates.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book.
Always on my Mind, follows a decade in Jessie's life ,on and off, after her prom which ends in a tragedy of everyone around her.
I liked seeing Jessie come to terms with her grief and guilt from the tragedy that happened a decade back. She takes control of her life, has ups and downs with falling a few times and finally making peace with it all. Always on my Mind is a warm, emotional with right amount of fun, perfect for a lazy, leisurely read.
I really enjoyed this book, and found I couldn’t put it down. It was lovely to have a main character with a disability, but who was still treated just like everyone else. I also liked how the characters didn’t really change, but rather just grew as they were. I’d definitely recommend
Beth does it again. I adore her book and I adored this one too. It was like a great big hug in book form. I couldn't put it down read it really quickly and loved it.
This is one of the most incredible books that I have read for a long, long time. It is heartwarming, life-affirming and positive. It has humour, romance, entertainment (especially reading about the activities at the Barn), and poignancy. I loved that the story included celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. This is definitely a really great book and one that I highly, highly recommend.
Oh my gosh this book was so freakin cute. I literally loved every minute of it, and couldn’t get enough! Highly recommend!
I enjoyed Beth Moran's latest novel and read it almost at one sitting...I did have to stop for some sleep after starting it one evening!
Beth creates really warm and relatable characters, and, in Elliot and Jessie particularly, a vulnerability that is engaging from the very start of the novel.
While there is nothing groundbreaking in the story, there is more depth to it than many similar, light summery, reads.
I was rooting for all the housemates as they worked towards their "Boys to Men" goals with Jessie 's help and advice (often ignored!), and particularly enjoyed the quirky romance for Arthur and his curate!
