Brilliant! Dark and brooding, this tale will have you questioning everyone’s motives, past and present!
Cassidy survived a tragedy on a school trip and every year she meets with the 8 other survivors to commemorate the anniversary. Over the years their number has dropped and this year Cassidy feels it’s time to stop the tradition. Can she avoid being pulled back in?
Secrets, trauma and fear make for a deadly combination! Who will survive this time?
A gripping, page-turner of a book you won’t want to put it down!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Cassidy is a survivor of a tragedy that happened when she was in high school ten years ago. Every year she and her fellow survivors meet up for a week, a pact they made.
This year Cass doesn’t want to go. She’s changed her number and kept her address private. All emails go to spam. Then she receives a text from a mystery number and an obituary for one of the group. She drops everything to go to this years reunion.
That’s when things start to go wrong. Who can she trust.
I loved this book. It was really slow and steady with regards to what had actually happened 10 years before. The chapters alternate between Cassidy in the future and each of the survivors take a turn in recalling past events.
The ending comes with a bang! While I knew who the ‘bad guy’ was, I didn’t. See the final secret coming!

Another reunion book but this is different enough to stand out as the reunioners are all survivors of a terrible event, with that comes many angsts and anxieties and problems which all appear here at this yearly reunion
Very flowery descriptions of scenery and feelings and everything tbh right fir the get go,an ok read for me

A pageturner in my opinion. There were plenty of' ' red herrings ' to make you suspect other people. It had me feeling for the characters and everything they went through. A rollercoaster read! I could imagine the settings and characters due to the descriptive writing.

Megan Miranda, The Only Survivors
The Survivors, a group bound by a high school tragedy reunite to mark it’s anniversary. Only to have disaster strike again, with survivors vanishing they are forced to ask who knows the truth? Will they pay the ultimate price?
I love a new Megan Miranda, her particular brand of thriller always hits the spot. This one has her usual creeping sense of dread from page one, as we flicker from past to present to unravel the mysteries. A solid page turner.

This was a really strong thriller and it kept me guessing right tol the end. There are a lot of these, childhood tragedy comes back to haunt survirors at the 10 year reunion type books so they do often feel like versions of the same plot but this one was actually really unique! Maybe not terribly believable but it's a fiction so it doesn't have to be. The point is it kept me engaged the whole way through. I loved the characters, how individual they all were and we'll written and it all come together nicely in the end without any plot holes or feeling rushed

Cassidy Bent has no intention of attending the only survivors annual reunion at The Shallows, the beachside home belonging to one of them. That is until she hears of the death of Alan. Amaya, Clara, Grace, Oliver, Joshua, Ian, Hollis, Brady and of course, Cass are bound together by the miracle that there are any survivors at all from the 2013 disaster. The story is told Then and Now via which we gradually learn what/how they survive and what they have collectively guarded as secret. However, is the truth genie finally out of the bottle?
One of the strongest elements of the book is the superb atmosphere that Megan Miranda creates. The claustrophobic sensation of being trapped is intense and nothing feels right with an off kilter unbalancing effect. The Shallows is a really good setting for the unravelling, the house gives a creepy ghostly vibe with the beach and the weather adding a moody and ominous dimension. This is used very effectively with some very good descriptions.
The mystery surrounding the events of 2013 becomes intriguing very quickly and the tense dynamics of 2023 are puzzling and fascinating. It’s clear that a number of dangerous things lurk just beneath the surface in both timelines and it doesn’t take much scratching to reveal the fear. It’s obvious that 2013 cast a huge shadow over their lives and they’re almost inert because of it. There are some really good twists towards the end some of which I don’t anticipate!
However, yes, it’s a slow burner psychological thriller but at times it’s a bit too slow with some points being hammered home repetitively. Cassidy is the principal narrator and she’s rather unemotional maybe deliberately so as a form of self protection but this is even when one big revelation smacks her between the chops.
Overall though despite the reservations I enjoy the book. I keeps my attention throughout especially my desire to get to the elusive truth and that when it comes is well played.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Quercus for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

A good read, I didn’t know what to expect from the book but I enjoyed it and I can’t wait to see what the author writes about next
