A very good book and a good start to a series.

Martha moves from Ireland with her Grandmother to Blackpool. She meets Trisha her next door neighbour who is of similar age to Martha who lives with her husband. We see the trials and tribulations of these girls what they go through how some people are a bit prejudiced about them.

Will they have happiness only time will tell.

I thought the book was really good and enjoyed the characters.

A great start to a new series. The book seemed a little drawn out but, on the whole I enjoyed it. The two girls were sweet and the backdrop of wartime made it a real page turner. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

A great start to a new trilogy. Set during World War One this tells the stories of Martha an Irish woman of gypsy descent and Trisha who meets her when Martha moves to Blackpool after leaving Ireland with her Gran. Martha and Trisha become the best of friends and help each other through some very difficult situations. The characters really come to life and draw you in so you can’t help but feel for them during their struggles. I look forward to catching up with Martha and Trisha again in book two out later this year.

I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This emotional Saga begins in Ireland 1918 with 16 year old Martha, she has a gift and she can see the terrible future that will happen to Ireland and to the ones she loves, so she sets sail to a safe place with her Granny, the safe place for a better future is Blackpool.

16 year old Trisha is Martha’s neighbour she’s suffered a terrible loss and is now stuck with her abusive husband after marrying him in haste with a shotgun wedding.

This was so interesting I was hooked, it’s the perfect saga story.

Martha and Trisha are so much more than friends, they’re like sisters bound together through poverty and tragedy.

This is a real page turner and a fantastic start to a new series.

Young Martha aged sixteen and her Granny, living in Dublin Ireland during the time of the rising, 1916, decide to move to Blackpool England for a safer life. Even though England has its problems too, it’s wartime.
Moving to England, Martha meets Trisha her next door neighbour. The two young girls form an instant bond, and friendship.

At first I found the dialects a little complicated, but soon got into the way of the speech.
I had hoped by the title that this book was a lot to do with fortune telling, but this wasn’t to be, although it was a theme that ran through the book.
An interesting holiday read, of how the girls met and dealt with life’s challenges.
There are some sensitive issues in the book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Publisher for an advanced e-book copy. Opinions about the book are entirely my own.

A great start to what's bound to be a fantastic series, great headstrong characters who want to better themselves despite the obstacles of the Era. Really looking forward to the next installment

I felt this book took a long time to get up to speed! Also the immediate "best friend" felt a little strange. Once the story picked up it was really good and moved along well. The things females had to endure and how they were treated by males was appalling! Good read but personally, I don't think this is her best book.
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book

The Fortune Tellers - Maggie Mason

A fantastic start to a new trilogy from this author, I adore Blackpool and was really looking forward to reading a book based around that area. There are lovely feelings of friendship withing this book, I felt that the two girls closeness just oozed from the pages, but we also encounter other tough emotions along the way of grief and loss. I found it really easy to read and finished it within a couple of days, I am now looking forward to the next installment. Thank you Netgalley, Little, Brown Book Group UK, Sphere and Maggie Mason for this E-arc in return for my honest thoughts and opinions.

This is the start of a new series for the author & I was totally captivated by it.
I thoroughly enjoyed it & can’t wait for the next instalment.
Set in Blackpool 1918 with strong female characters, Trisha & Martha are the main focus of this historical saga.
Seventeen year old Martha of Irish descent has a gift of foretelling the future that was passed down from her late grandmother.
She fled the troubles in Ireland & settled in Blackpool where she earns a living on the promenade.
Martha Trisha’s neighbour has become her closest friend & confidant.
They live in one of the poorest areas & have to to face poverty every day.
Trisha who is pregnant is married to an abusive man & her future becomes uncertain as tragedy strikes.
This was an emotional page turner for me & can’t wait to see what the future holds for them both.
Wonderful read.

What a brilliant start to the trilogy. Set in Blackpool during the first world war, it follows the lives of Martha and Trisha and the constant fights they had to endure. Their lives were a constant rollercoaster ride. As much as it's heartbreaking, it's also heartwarming, and I'm already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

A Fabulous start to a new series by Maggie.

I was hooked by the first page of this book.

Due to the happenings in Ireland, The O’Hara family are forced to part ways, so Bridie leaves for Blackpool with her granddaughter Martha.

They move in next to a Bobby and Trisha, a married couple.

Both ladies form a friendship that helps both of them through the bad times that they face, some that they weren’t expecting.

The story had sone lovely characters and my favourite line was “you daft ha’peth”.

Can’t wait for book two.

I highly recommend this book.

Was unsure how many stars to give this as, although the story was good, the book needs a really good editor to sort out the typing as he paragraphs, punctuation and alignment was all over the place which made you feel a bit sea-sick.

The story itself was about love, loss, grief and the strength women have to find in themselves to overcome life’s obstacles in the 1916 era.

A lovely tale of families pulling together and a loving matriarch who shows her granddaughter the way.
