The end is nigh!

Having abandoned more anthologies than I’ve completed due to them often presenting as unfinished thoughts - Eyes Guts Throat Bones could be one of the best short story collections I’ve ever read.

Not only does it speak to queer identity without resulting to tired stereotypes but there’s a poetic sweetness and love even in tales of monsters, grief and the end of the world.

This one truly was a joy to read and I’d I’m certain that there’s something in here for almost everyone.

what an incredible collection of short stories!! i honestly cannot find any faults with them and loved them all so much. the way that fowley writes is honestly so captivated and you are always drawn in by the first sentence of each story.

i think my favourite story has to be ‘nature morte’! the characterisation of the monster and the depiction of grief that sophie was endearing was absolutely fantastic and truly raw. i think it is safe to say that i am obsessed with fowley’s writing style and the way that her mind thinks. normally in a short story collection, i tend to not like one or two, but i loved them ALL! i think it may have been because they have a horror/fantasy/creepy vibe to them which i love to read about. AND THE SAPPHIC ROMANCES IN HERE?! i loved them. this is THE book to get this year (in my opinion)

the only fault i had with the book was that i wished was that the stories were placed in the order they were written in the contents page. it’s such a nit-picky thing but i feel like it would have been better if the book was physically separated out into the different sections. but, i also understand why this was done so you could feel the stories and the horror in your body.

i’m not sure if moïra fowley has written any other books, but if she has then i will get them ALL! honestly, thank you so much to W&N books, Orion books and moïra fowley for allowing me to read this prior to publication. i will definitely be running to my local bookshop to get this when it releases.
