Amy Duffy has gone viral for the most embarrassing incident ever. So bad, she hightails it from NYC to London, and refuses to face her family. It's been two years now and she misses them terribly but shame continues to haunt her. How can she face them after what she did?
She has a job she enjoys working with her best friend Maggie but it isn't her dream job. It's not the job she left behind in New York. Maggie tries to convince her to put herself back out there but if there is one thing she's lacking it's courage.
Then she meets her new neighbor, Jake, who is also hiding from his own moment of embarrassment. One even larger than Amy's as he was on a reality dating show so millions were able to witness his crash and burn. He's not only incredibly handsome but kind too and the pair become fast friends. When she discovers he's a writer that has all but given up on his dream they begin a project together that will hopefully fast track both of them into their true destinies.
There's only one hitch. Amy's ex, Chris, the jerk that caused her so much shame, has signed on as her new boss. She thought she escaped, that she ran far enough away, but trouble has come to town and he's still as handsome as ever. He's the one that will decide whether her and Jake's detective series will come to fruition. Will he do the right thing this time around or will he sell his soul to the devil like the last time she trusted him? You'll have to read this to find out!
The Sweetest Revenge was a super sweet rom-com! Oh how I loved Amy and Jake. Swoony banter for days!!! 😍 I loved Amy's boisterous family and Jake's wisecracking mom. Chris, that prickly prick, was perfectly despicable. There is a fair bit of f-bombs and even a few c*nts for those that take offense but other than that this stays fairly wholesome. There are no open door sexy scenes for which I was personally grateful. I really enjoyed my time with this one. My last book was a real heartbreaker so this was such a nice, smile inducing treat. 4 sweet and shiny stars!

Oh - this book was so much fun. Amy Duffy is a tv content developer at a major network in NYC who dates her boss, Chris. He lets her know he voted to pass on her show she pitched, because he didn’t want to be seen as favoring her. They get into an argument and she misses her cousin’s wedding. Instead, she goes to a pub and gets drunk. She decides to confront him, and ends up denting and peeing on his car… which is filmed and uploaded to the internet.
Two years later, Amy is in London working at a less dreamy job. She meets a new neighbor, Jake, who is a screenwriter and reality show star, and they hit it off. There is a restructure at work and she wants to pitch a new show. Only - her ex is the one heading up the development area. She decides to do it anyway and works with Jake - and sparks fly.
I truly enjoyed this one! It’s the first I’ve read by Lizzy Dent and it was so fun. It’s a light romance, with lots of drama sprinkled throughout. I loved the people in her life. Her family cracked me up. The chemistry with Jake was so great and the banter made me laugh out loud. Was the drama a little out there? Sure, but it was still entertaining! I’d definitely recommend this one!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I don’t know if I would consider this a romance book. I liked the relationship but it was more about her fixing her life that any actual romance until the last chapter which was a little annoying.
I adore this book. It made me laugh out loud through out the whole thing. The sexual tension is there and both main characters grow and are over all really well developed. Amy does annoy you at certain points because well… trauma but Amy and Jake’s romance is one to worth taking the time to read. Over all 5 out of 5.
Cute book that has you really liking the main character. It was easy to read and very enjoyable. If you enjoy women’s fiction this might be a good one for you.
Better than many in the genre. :) The end seemed abrupt and I was expecting something much more interesting and / or elaborate to happen to Chris, and the book was kinda dragging by the end. But overall I really enjoyed it and *loved* the detailed chemistry between Amy and Jake.
I couldn't put this book down. I read it in a day. A great story, it has drama, shame, struggles, great friends, family dynamics, and romance. Amy has so many good things going for her, a supportive family, a job she loves, and romance. But in one swoop it all came tumbling down. Because of a viral video, she couldn't face her family or her colleagues, so she ran away. You have to read the book to find out what happens next!
Just like the other heroines of Lizzy Dent, Amy, too, is one heck of a mess. Her life & luck seem to be a train wreck with the universe conspiring against her.
What I love about Lizzy's books are how warm, refreshing & funny they are. Apart from the romance, this was high on character development.
I loved watching Amy pursue her passion & finally standing up for herself (twice). With humor undertones, this book was able to deliver some hard-hitting truths.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the the in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by Lizzy Dent and it won’t be my last.
I love a strong female lead and Amy was just this! She was feisty and knows what she wants in life and in love.
We all make mistakes and although Amy ran away to London to escape her biggest one (Chris) she still owned it and turned it round to her advantage.
Jake was an absolute sweetheart - going though a tough time himself in more ways than one, be managed to find himself and Amy in the process.
I love a book with a happy ending and a bit of just desserts - this one certainly had all that!
There was always a will they won’t they element between Amy and Jake - but when they’re together you could feel that sexual tension so much you were willing them to get it on!
I’m a big one for family relationships and the fact that Amy and Jake were both family orientated too was the icing on the cake 🎂
A really great summer read, Amy Duffy is my new hero, funny and smart this book has it all.
Amy lives in New York has a great job and is dating her boss Chris (secretly) following a bust up with Chris and an unfortunate incident which goes viral online Amy leaves everything and moves to London.
She meta her new neighbour Jake who is also in hiding after a reality show appearance doesn’t work out and the two of them find friendship and someone who believes in them.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this ebook and Instabooktours with Lizzy Dent
Absolutely adored this book. It was such a fun easy read full of wit and banter, perfect for the summer. The sexual tension between Jake and Amy was sizzling from their first encounter and their chemistry was incredible. I was routing for them from the get go.
Amy’s character development was also something I enjoyed reading. She went from a woman who ran from her problems and avoided any reminders of her past to standing up for what she believes in.
This was a first for me with Lizzy’s work, but rest assured it won’t be my last. Her writing style is similar to Emily Henry who is an absolute master at romance. So if like me you’re also a fan, you need to check this out.
3.5 stars
After being screwed over by her boss/boyfriend (now ex boyfriend) & making an unfortunate decision that got caught on video, Amy flees to England to put her life on a different path. She met her cute neighbor and is finally excited about work again - what could go wrong this time? Ohk I enjoyed this one. Both their emotional journeys of healing were sweet to see in tandem & I loved watching their relationship (work & more) unfold. The slowest of burns but we'll worth the wait. Felt a little slow for me at the beginning but picked up once her & Jake started to work together which I really enjoyed.
This book was such a rollercoaster!! I have to admit, the first chunk of it made me extremely anxious and I wanted to talk some sense in to Amy, but I came around and was cheering for her and Jake.
Amy flees her life in New York and moves to London, following a bad and humiliating break up with her boss. She creates a life for herself in London and is doing well when her ex-boyfriend shows up at her new work. Right around this time, a reality tv show heartthrob moves in next door and Amy finds herself working with him on a tv script.
There are so many ups and downs in this book, but ultimately I loved Amy and Jake's story and thought Jake was so swoony and perfect. I enjoyed both their best friends, and all of Amy's family -- who clearly wants the best for Amy while also calling her out on her bs.
A perfect summer read, very transporting -- made me want to be in London walking around with Amy and Jake!
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book!
The Sweetest Revenge is a such a cute rom com that was very fun to read!
It centers around Amy, who after an event that leaves her ashamed, moved to London to start over. We see her 2 years after the event when she is still having a hard time moving on and feels stuck at work. Then she gets a new neighbor who helps inspire her again.
At first I really disliked Amy and found the book hard to read due to her actions. But as the book went on, I found myself really enjoying her. I especially loved the love interest Jake! He was a gem and so sweet.
Overall- if you like a gold romance, this is a perfect one to pick up! Even better if you try to avoid sex in books as there is only some kissing.
Thanks to netgalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

What an absolutely delightful summer read. Pull up your beach chair, and get ready to enjoy The Sweetest Revenge by Lizzy Dent. Amy Duffy has a bit of a bad break up that lands her as the internet's latest viral craze and she flees to London to start over. Fast forward a couple of years and she meets her new neighbor Jake who is now going through a similar viral mishap. Amy’s past comes knocking and through her friendship with Jake she starts to heal and move on from the shame she’s dealt with. Overall, the burn was so slow in this book and the tension was just delightful. It was a fun, quick read and I recommend throwing it in your bag for the beach or pool and get ready to fall in love with Amy and Jake – with a few laughs along the way. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided to me through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Lizzy Dent and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for giving me the opportunity to read this book!
A tv producer on a comeback falls for her co-writing neighbor in this latest from one of my go-to summer romance authors. I loved all the Emily in Paris (but make it London) vibes, the swoony love interest, the revenge on your ex, women taking down the man vibes.
This was AMAZING on audio read by my very favorite narrator, Brittany Pressley (seriously any book she reads is almost guaranteed to be a new fav for me). Highly recommended, especially for fans of books like The roughest draft or Would like to meet by Rachel Winters.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and @prhaudio for early digital and audio copies in exchange for my honest review!!
Steam level: kissing only
Bridesmaids meets Emily in Paris—in London. A fun romp of a read that was laugh out loud funny.
thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this review copy
This book was such a fun read! After the "incident" at the beginning that was admittedly second hand embarrassment worthy I wasn't sure what else to expect from this read but I was so pleasantly surprised! This book takes you through the story of a woman who runs away from New York to London to escape the embarrassment of one bad night in July. Throughout the book I really enjoyed seeing the character development of both Amy and Jake. I loved how Jake taught Amy to just embrace the circumstances and move forward through his own experiences. Their romantic tension throughout the book was also absolutely delightful! I found myself staying up late reading to see what they would do next. I also really enjoyed following them through writing their story for their show. I almost wish it was a real show because it's definitely something I would enjoy watching. Lastly I loved that at the end one of the characters realizes that they were wrong in their actions and really goes out of their way to fix things. I loved how open and honest the character became and how their stories did end in Amy getting the absolute sweetest revenge all while also gaining something she didn't think she could have before.
This was, oddly, a fun read. Amy experiences a disastrous breakup and flees the country, only to have to face the consequences later in her new home. Along the way, there are breakthroughs of self-awareness and, finally, Amy is able to find her way!
